Is Nintendo Already Boxing Wii?
Some readers allege they were contacted for a Wii assembly line; new Nintendo job posting backs it up.

September 11, 2006 - The IGN message boards have run abuzz with allegations from a poster that Nintendo is seeking 150 people to begin packing finished Wii consoles as soon as Tuesday.
Clever users investigated a number of work agencies postings and found recent job openings for Nintendo's North Bend location, which houses the facility that packages and distributes the publisher's products. However, the most compelling job posting is listed directly on Nintendo's official website. Nintendo of America is looking for a production agent trainee to work out of its North Bend facility, and the person will most definitely be handling as many Wii systems as they can get their hands on.
Directly from the Nintendo job posting:
"It's an exciting time to be a part of Nintendo's team! Millions of eager fans are eagerly anticipating the launch of our revolutionary new console, Wii. As a Production Agent Trainee, you'll be on the front-lines--working tirelessly to ensure they don't leave stores empty handed this holiday season.
At least one IGN board poster has applied for the position and will undoubtedly report back with details if he nabs the job. We're keeping our fingers crossed.
In the meantime, the latest allegations - combined with Nintendo's own job posting - seem to back up reports from studios that the console is finished and that the Big N could spring an early launch on consumers if and when it reveals Wii's price and release date later this week.Comment

September 11, 2006 - A recent update by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has revealed a number of SEGA titles coming to Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console. The classic games include all of the following:
Ecco the Dolphin
Altered Beast
Toe Jam & Earl
Golden Axe
Columns
Sonic the Hedgehog
Ristar
Readers can verify this information for themselves by going to ESRB's official website and doing a search by platform for Wii games.
The fact that these classic games show up for Wii on ESRB's website is a good sign because publishers have to submit their games for the organization's approval prior to their release -- hence, the ESRB would not just create a list like this out of thin air.
Will these titles and more be debuted at Nintendo's Wii event this Thursday? We'll keep you posted.Comment

For a company that wants to sell 7 million units by March of 2007, is hiring people to package these things and plans to have them in stores in two months, you would think they would have announced the price already. Do you think the delay is to surprise their competion with a very low starting price of less than $199 or would you guess its because the price is a bit high and they don't want to kill any excitement? I'm guessing the first option and that it definately won't be higher than $199 and may even be $179 or something like that. Just talking out of my *** though.Comment

I hate the cel-shading effect for sports games, including racing. It was cool for Jet Grind Radio on the DC and Jet Set Radio Future for the Xbox, but those games were as much about attitude and atmosphere as gameplay, so the cel-shaded effect worked well there. Plus, how many other games with graffiti artists on jet skates with conventional graphics did we have to compare to JGR?
Cel-shading doesn't work for a racing game. People expect photo-realistic graphics with racing games.

I have to ask, not out of disappointment (as I would be totally GEEKED) but if the gaming press was unable to find out that Nintendo already was preparing the Wii for launch, under the noses of all these geeky press outlets, why the hell are they in business? For official EA under desk shenanigans? I mean seriously! Where's the IGN mole sitting in a dumpster outside Nintendo?

Right now it seems like there is no such thing as a real gaming journalist. Some of the big sites like IGN and Gamespot have some interesting personalities, but none of them are journalists. I have also noticed that there is a lack of testicular fortitude in the gaming media.
Gaming journalist is right up there with jumbo shrimp as a true oxymoron. There's not a single gaming writer out there who's a journalist first, gamer second. It's the other way around, so they're going to be industry-sucking fans first and reporters second.
It's our loss and the industry's gain, as there's no watchdog over the industry.

Interview with the producer of Madden for the Wii:
So far, Madden 07 has not been met with much praise for any console. After reading that though I'm quite eager to try out the Wii version but I'm trying to remain sensible about it. This is EA, after all, and it may sound good but I won't believe its any good until I play it for myself.Comment
