Re: Nintendo Wii (Revolution) Information, hardware, games discussion

I don't even get how Wii is pronounced "We". It looks like it should be pronounced "Why".

Nintendo should have just stuck with Revolution.

Oh well, I'm pretty sure nobody buys or doesn't buy a console because of its name.

How does a name stop you buying a game/system?

          ...freak.

I like the name. Short, easy to say and original.

Agree... It must mean something in Japanese? But how do westerners pronounce it?

There is no Nintendo Wii. It’s just Wii. It’s a very inclusive name in that respect.

                  Say what? :y4:

Agree there; not sure why the name would lower someone's desire to own the system. I think the name is interesting/cool, for the reasons you mentioned
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

                          Parts from that GI interview

Atwood: No, the point is we want it to be very clear what we’re saying. Again, we’ll go back to your traditional naming conventions for systems. They tend to be fairly literal. That’s not what we want at all. We want something that isn’t as literal. But once you understand it, it makes a lot of sense.

Once you touch the Revolution, this will make more sense. Once you play more games, and once the system is out, and more and more people play it, and you’re realizing these different experiences, it’ll make more sense.
Why didn't this PR guy say, "Once you touch the Wii, this will make more sense."?

GI: (laughs) The name Wii makes me think of peeing! You said you have to hold the DS like a book for Brain Age, I hate to know how I’m supposed to hold the Wii controller.

Just heard of the name change and it's kind of cool. Like the originality on the real. Just like the XBOX 360 was the "dumbest name" a few months ago but turned out to be one hell of a system, I think the WII is going to do big things too. Man is Revolution stepping up out of the shadows or what. I can't wait to get my hands on this console to see how it works.

And that little link about Madden being made specifically for the WII is making me laugh. They have "great A.I. and graphics"......which Madden are we talking about? Am I blind? Ya'll must have seen something I didn't. Please break it down for a brother.......

The name may suck, but it won't affect my purchasing decision. They should change it though, if they know whats good for them.
