Nintendo gets Wii ready for holidays
Company plans to put console on market Nov. 19

In a move that may allow Nintendo of Japan to take advantage of stumbles by its main rival, the company plans to announce today that it will release its new Wii video-game console in North and South America on Nov. 19, just as the holiday shopping season begins, and that the machine will cost $250 in the United States.
Nintendo intends to announce today that every Wii will come with a game compilation called Wii Sports -- including tennis, golf, baseball and bowling -- meant to show off the machine's intuitive controls.
Nintendo intends to charge $50 for its Wii games, $10 less than the standard price for Xbox 360 titles and the same price generally charged for GameCube games.
Nintendo plans to announce today that about 30 classic games will be available for download when the Wii is released, including ones from the "Zelda," "Mario" and "Donkey Kong" franchises. Downloadable games will cost about $5 to $10 each.
There will be a photo channel that will allow users to use the Wii to display digital photographs on television.

There also will be an easy-to-use interactive news channel and weather channel.

Yikes. $250 is more than I hoped for....but I have no problem paying that for a Nintendo-produced machine. It'll probably come with a "Wiimote", regular controller, and nunchuck attachment I bet.

I was all for it at $179-199... I might have to think about it at $250.

What can I say, I'm frugal.

            $250. lol

Too much for what you're getting. Hey you do get the tech demo called Wii Sports though, that'll be fun for maybe an hour.

$250 is more than I wanted to pay but it is still better than having a $600 machine that will sit there with no games. I will get a Wii with Zelda and it will be $300 well spent. Plus I can get my kids a great spongebob game for christmas that we can all have fun with. Hmm come to think about it paying $10 less for Marvel Alliance and using the special moves with the Wiimote.

BTW Canadian guy (my in-laws come from Canada so you are suspect) my kids and I will be having a blast with tennis, golf and bowling (unnanounced but part of the deal) for many hours.

$250 is too much IMO. I'll be passing, way too many 360 games to get this fall. Add to that, it's only $50 cheaper than a 360. Not good IMO.

IMO it's $150 cheaper because of the fact that the core is a rip. I think the 360 is a great machine, but I like the Wii lineup better (right now). I will have both in my house.

I hope to have it day 1, depends if I can get a PS3 to sell. But Zelda and Metroid on day one is two killer apps, plus 30 titles to download is icing on the cake.

$250 is too much imo. The system isn't that much more powerful than the PS2/XBox so I expected a $199 price which is generally when its accepted by the masses. They don't really have the high price of cutting edge technology. However, the early life of a console is usually sold at a loss plus its always sold out to the initial hardcore fans. I don't doubt they can sell out their initial shipments at $250 so from a business standpoint it makes sense. Once (or if) sales slow down, they could drop the price to $199 to boost sales and grab more market share.

I'm with you. $199 was the magic number for me. At $250, I'm now pausing. A premium 360 -- which clearly has more technology and rock-solid online gaming -- is only $150 more. Plus I've owned an Xbox since 2002 and enjoy it.

                            Much to ponder ...

                            Take care,

yeah, I am already eyeing the "Cars" movie game for my son..............The games are totally different than what you see on the 360, so having 2 consoles will be nice.
