I prefer Blue-Rays benefits more for gaming than movies as I am more than happy with the current DVD format but if it is the next format for movies so be it.
Technology makes storage space a non-issue for games. The things that take up space are FMV cutscenes. That extraspace won't goto gameplay but rather FMV if there is a need.

Re: Nintendo Wii (Revolution) Information, hardware, games discussion

Another reason I'm hesitant, Snappin, is that I'm not sure I can break my need for military shooters and proper racing sims.

I could use a PC for those, but my PC is a business laptop owned by my company. Not suited for gaming, and I'm sure as hell not going to invest in upgrades for a machine I don't own.

At base level, the Wii games look very fun and very cool. But many of them are SO basic that I wonder if and when the novelty factor would wear off. For example, Wii Sports. After a while, will I tire of not being able to bowl or golf in tournaments and not have the MLB license in the baseball game? I think I would.

The beauty of the Dreamcast is that it had a bunch of fun, quirky games to expand my horizon while still having quality sports, racing and shooter games to satisfy my long-standing joneses.

      Take care,

I hear you on that - lack of sports was what made me sell my Cube and get an xBox. Unfortunately, buying "iterations" every year has gotten old for me - I find I'd rather replay good games like Psychonauts or Beyond Good & Evil than spend my money to get frustrated by the lack of fixes in the latest sports games.

Dropping the money for an acceptable "gaming only" computer - instead of the 360 or PS3 - to play most racing games and the modable sports franchises may be my plan to compliment the Wii. Heck, the Papyrus Nascar games are still better than any of the recent console racers.

I think it is that I want something different. I'm burned out on the same sports and styles. It is one reason Rugby was so great - fresh game, good controls, and it helped me learn a new game.

It does seem the 360 offers what you want to play. The Wii offers something else, but may not (and most likely never would) fill those needs. Plus, with its launch price point, it can't be easily justified as a "supplemental" system like the DS.

Regardless, I'm glad you're still interested/intrigued, even if the buying impulse has gone down. Would have loved to see a little "PK Mii".

Another so-called Wii "feature" that I find completely useless and meaningless. I'm 41 years old and comfortable with who I am and the way I look. I don't need to create some sort of gaming alter-ego, complete with a gay anime picture!

I hope you're being sarcastic, dude! If I want news and weather, I flick on my TV or check the Web. I don't need a games player to do that.

But it's revolutionary! Oh sorry, Nintendo doesn't want us using that word anymore.

The whole "channels" thing is leaving me non-plussed. I like having my GamerTag thing loadable onto the controller so I can just bring my controller to someone elses house. But the mii, web surfing, photo editing, news and weather? I have a computer, thanks. Even my old piece o' crap can do all that.

I don't care for web surfing, photo editing, news, and weather on my videogame console since these are things that I use my PC & TV for. I just don't understand why all this multimedia is something that people care for from their consoles. If I can turn on my console, play some games, download demos, and use custom soundtracks than I'm a happy camper.

I'm distancing myself from the Wii, at least at launch, further and further as I read stuff like this.

                        Take care,

Thats the only aspect of the Wii I'm still waiting on, the performance. I'm confident that Zelda will perform well at launch since its a first party title and if that has issues with the "Wii-mote" then that will be a really bad sign.

One thing I did read in that developer Q&A for Madden that sounded encouraging was about the motions for the game. Basically, he said you don't have to use exaggerated motions to controll your player in Madden (and I assume that will be true of any Wii title). People will probably start off actually mimicing the Qb when passing the football, but really alls you have to do is flick the wrist.

I'm pretty sure we'll see 2k come out with an MLB title for the Wii, and it wouldn't surprise me to see Nintendo re-vive Pennant Chase Baseball for the Wii. I don't know of any pure racing sims on the horizon, but I'm sure shooters will populate the Wii. At any rate, I don't think there will be an over-abundance of simple, mundane titles that use the controller as a gimmick. Sure there will be some but there will be plenty of "involved" games like Zelda and Metroid to go around. It will probably be like the DS which had some games at launch that were little more than tech demos but as the system hung around developers started to do more things with the hardware and as a result we've gotten some pretty kick-*** titles.

At any rate, I'm eager to get my hands on this thing to give it a go and I hope I get the chance to before I buy one or I get some confirmation that everything works exceptionally well. I really haven't been as eager to get a new console as I am with the Wii since the original Playstation came out and it feels good to be excited about videogames again.

The next console will be from Ronco or K-Tel! Hope you're old enough to get that joke, KDRE!

I'm with you, Misfit. This is a console that I MUST try at a kiosk before even considering a purchase since the control scheme is so different and so integral to what separates this system from its competitors.

I'll probably reserve one and I imagine a few weeks before launch kiosks will start popping up. That if I like it I'll be able to get it and if I don't then I can just cancel the pre-order.

I was pretty hyped for the Wii, but like pk500, my enthusiasm has waned... I'm finding it hard to justify paying $250 for basically a suped up GameCube, when I could get a 360 (Core) for $50 more.
