Looks like my 360 is going to die any day now. I'm getting freezes every 10 or so minutes and I got the red lights once . Thanks to this thread i'll be taking it to walmart instead of shipping it out and waiting a week for it to come back.

make sure you tell them you bought it at launch etc. ofcourse you wouldnt have the slip from that long ago etc. you buy all your gaming needs at walmart.. cake it on and they should replace it for you without a problem. all they will do is copy your id card, that is it..

Do I have to package everything in the box (hardrive, controller, etc.) before I exchange it?

yes....

but saying that, they didnt check my box at all. i was ticked b/c i could have at least kept the HD and then sold it on ebay or something..

but make sure you have everything in the 360 box..

I'd assume so...maybe not the HD, could maybe get away with that, but I don't know.

It's definatly worth a shot. I could always tell them that I bought the core system. If that doesn't work then i'll just send it out to microsoft...

I went to walmart and one of the employees told me that they don't take anything back without a receipt after 90 days . Guess i'll just have to send it in to microsoft.

edit - Well maybe i'll try it again tomorrow on a different employee. I'll just tell them that I bought it 2 months ago or something. Is there anyway that walmart can figure out when you actually bought the system?

1. My warranty ran out. I can probably talk them into taking it anyway but i don't feel like going through the trouble.

2. I honestly don't feel like waiting a week to get a "new" 360 (i've read stories and most the 360's that are sent out aren't even new apparently). I have a 4 day break from work and school is over. I want to play the damn thing

I'll still send it to them anyway if the walmart thing doesn't work.

XBOX repair center received my 360 last Thursday, June 8th. I called today to check the status. The CSR gave me a UPS tracking number. They've printed out a return label on Friday, June 9th, but the shipment is not in the UPS system yet. I'll check with UPS tonight to see my 360 has actually been shipped.

I have to admit, if they sent me out a repaired/refurb/or new one today, the process would be faster than I thought it would be. Of course, we'll have to see how the workmanship is with the one I'm getting back. Too many stories of people on their 2nd and 3rd returns for me to feel really comfortable right now. I hope I'm not in for an endless cycle of returns.

If worse comes to worst.. I'm gonna sell my 360 and <b>IF</b> I decide to buy another one, it will be from Costco. They have the best return policy by far.

If you want to return to Walmart... you should first purchase one from Walmart, so you'll have a receipt. Then return your broken one with receipt and let them know it's defective.

Doesn't WalMart keep track of serial numbers on these systems? Doesn't the serial number appear on the receipt?

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think so... if you look at the receipt and the box, the SKU number is the same for all 360's.

I don't think the serial number for each individual 360 is located outside the box anywhere. I could be wrong.
