I just got the Impressions from a good friend, and a guy whose gaming sensibilities I really trust. He said it was awesome, that the crowd, the atmostphere and fighting system were awesome, and that it feels truly next gen. I'll pick this up now.

      Re: Assassin's Creed

I have to say I'm regretting buying this game. Granted I've only played a couple hours, but ... there's like nothing to do!

You can't interact with anyone, you can't go into any of the buildings, there's no shopkeepers, changing clothes or weapons, no currency, no food, no real 'finding' anything except those flags which seem to have no purpose at all. I mean, it's like the whole 'world' is just filler for watching the story develop. What's even worse: you can't skip past the cut scenes, so, how many times am I going to play this thing through?

I keep getting the feeling that this is nothing more than the poor man's Oblivion, and without the replay value and depth. Moreover, when I think of all the other 3rd-person games I've enjoyed over the years (think Splinter Cell, Hitman, Resident Evil, Metal Gear, and the aforementioned Oblivion) this game doesn't seem to come close to touching any of them.

Boy, I mean maybe this wears off after I play some more, but the more I think about it, the more I'm pretty pissed. $65? RENT FIRST!!!

I'm the exact opposite. I just got the first real assassination, waiting and getting in place to take the guy out, and then trying to get away was intense.

For me, this is the single player game of the year. Absolutely love it.

Well hold on a second, that's right where I am too. 'Waiting and getting in place to take the guy out'? I agree it was kinda cool for a second, but after his little scene was over, what happens? He walks around in the same little general area, non-stop. It's not like we even had to do anything. Once you figure out that you don't have to follow him anywhere, and that there's no real strategy involved in killing him, you walk up to him and kill him, right? (I'm asking seriously, like, is there another option? Did you do something different?) And as for getting away, I don't know man. I didn't die, did you? As far as I'm concerned, the guards seem pretty unwilling to kill you. I mean, you run away or stay and fight - and neither option presents much of a challenge.

But worse than that, I'm talking about everything else. I mean, sure, following the story along seems cool enough. But what else is going on here? The 'protect citizen' thing? For what, so they can protect you from the guards that aren't the least bit hard to get away from anyway?

I don't know. Invariably this is going to degenerate into some lame 'to each his own' conclusion, so I'll just stop now. But I'm just really not feeling this game. I'm happy for those who are.

          Cheers.

Some of most mixed reviews and impressions Ive seen in awhile, seems like the average gamer is taking a liking to the game though.
I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

**Fair warning most of my post is spoilers but I'm maybe two hours into the game and I just elaborate on stuff that is introduced about 2 minutes into the game no crazy plot twists or anything...

I'm also a big fan of this game so far, pretty much at the same part as you guys, just got the first real assassination. The only thing that annoys me so far is the "future/present day" cut scenes. I'm guessing as the game progresses they become more useful/important but right now it all just seems really tacked on and unnecessary. The whole being a disgraced assassin and trying to regain your prestige or whatever is pretty cool and I sort of wish they spent more time maybe making random side missions or developing the plot even more instead of all the lab stuff. I do however like the fact that once the mission was done I morphed back to the head assassin guy instead of having to go all the way back on horseback.

I think your post is just an example of why there have been mixed reviews. There are people that are going to love this game and people that just won't.

It's weird to see such mixed reviews but I thought that might happen when I started watching the videos of this game. I can see the many things people love about the game but I quickly saw the many things that would make this a rental for me.

So what does the "weapons expertise" ability do? Is there a list of all the abilities and what they do somewhere in the game or online?

I tried to assassinate the first guy. I screwed up and ended up getting killed myself. It was great.

By far my favorite game(Single Player) of the year.

I got it yesturday and played a couple hours and im in the middle of another hour of play time right now and i have to say that im pretty close to in love with this game but im just bummed that theres not much more to do like interacting or being able to do much with the enviorment you have to deal with and its a shame bc this world that they've created is graphically astonishing.

It's a great change of pace, but there just isnt enough depth to the game to make me go back and play after I am finished. Going to all the high points and saving over 100 villagers just isnt very fun.

This game reminds me of how crackdown didnt give me a reason to care enough to play it.

Every assassination follows the same basic formula.

I have decided I need to hurry up and finish the game this weekend so I can take it back for mass effect next week.
