Re: Dreamcast would have turned seven this year

piracy was a big flaw, but not what killed it. At the time, many people didn't have high speed internet or cd burners and all that. So the maount of people bootlegging DC games was negligible.

now it's a different story. You can either buy the games for like 3 dollars each or get them off the internet for the cost of CD-R's. I think at this point, it's fine to download DC games. It exposes people to games they didn't buy or try earlier.

I remember launch day like it was yesterday. Good Morning America did a spot to showcase NFL 2K and Diane Sawyer asks "and how many more moves does it have " my son and I cracked up, she had no clue what gaming was about.I did have to run out and pick it up after seeing 2K.

I bought one on launch day and LOVED it. NFL Blitz was the first game I owned then I remember getting NFL2K with, I believe, Randy Moss on the cover and was just blown away. The best part is that NFL2K STILL has better announcers then Madden EVER had, or STILL has.

Well Dreamcast Lives Strong in my home, I own 4 systems and every game ever made on it, Japanese, US, and UK...and I'm loving my connection.

I still play Shenmue and Shenmue 2, and see something new every time.

I'm also playing Evil Twin UK, and Border Down - Japanese Shooter....

Japan just released about 8 games for the Dreamcast less than a month ago. They never stopped making them.

It never died in UK and Japan, only in the US.

And as long as they are still making them I'll keep buying them.

Long live the best console to date. Way before its time, and still helluva lot better than the PS2.

Shadows, do you have any pics of that collection? That would be cool to see.

Re: Dreamcast would have turned seven this year

To put it in terms of classic rock(because I love it so), it was the "Buffalo Springfield" or "Cream" of console gaming. Like pk said, it was a great system for so many reasons. Features that no console had done before that was way ahead of it's time. Tons of great games, Soul Caliber, Marvel V.S. Capcom 2, NFL/NBA2K and lots more. The first console to offer online play and the VMU. Yet it was only around for a blink of an eye. Sad, very sad.
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

Re: Dreamcast would have turned seven this year

well I love the discussion, but let's not fluff it up too much.

again, the great games were not the norm. I'd say the majority of the DC's games are absolute crap, or are just average. Now that may be since a true lack of 3rd party support forced Sega to greenlight any or all games they were presented with, but not every game was a gem like Soul Calibur. Anyone that owned one back when it was out could relate to the frustration of buying a new game only to find out it sucks ***.

some of my worst games on the DC list..

Spirit of Speed (worst game ever created)
                  Chef's Luv Shack (a $50 flash game)
                  the Kiss FPS game (um...)
ECW (the nostradamus sign that acclaim was done for)
all of the ESPN sport games

I'd say that while the ratio of good to bad games is higher than other consoles, the good ones make this system by themselves. So it's not like having every game made on this console is anything more than nostalgia.

I agree that there was a lot of crap on the DC, but there was also a lot of innovative games that brought innovation to games at that time. For every Chef's Luv Shack and ECW game, you also had some really nice gems on this system.

Seaman took the "Tamogachi" concept a step further that wasn't really done much on consoles at that time, SEGA Bass Fishing ushered the concept of using a "Fishing Rod Controller" on the console that many companies would copy for the Playstation, Shenmue brought production/style to the gaming world, Powerstone brought that 3D open environment fighting system that fighting games have lacked, VMU, First console to filly support online, and of course how can we forget the NFL/NBA2K series.

If I were to get a DC again, my personal favorite games that I owned on there at one time and would do say again would be:

                      SEGA Bass Fishing 1/2
                      Soul Calibur
                      Blue Stinger
                      Power Stone 1/2
                      Alone in the Dark
                      Tennis 2K2
                      Cannon Spike
                      Expendable
                      Giant Gram 2000
                      Grandia II

As much as Evil Dead sucked for PS1 & DC, I used cheat codes to finish it.

I forgot Grandia 2, that was good.
