      Some quick Rock Band musings...

-Great vid, Windseer, keep them coming
-Just beat Foreplay/Long time and Tell Me Baby(chilipeppers) on Expert Drums (whoo!)
-Almost there with Don't Fear the Reaper(soon!)
-Talking to my friend who is a notoriously terrible singer, and he sings something messing around, and it actually sounds good. I accuse him, "You've been doing the vocal tour!" He replies, "I'm trying to get that Hard achievement in Vocals, man!"

      LOL, I love this game.

        I was just thinking tonight...

RB needs a Blues Pack. Hell, how about a BB King pack? He's still around so he could remaster some of his older stuff. I think it'd be pretty incredible.

I don't know a single person that would be anti-blues. I think the DLC would sell like hotcakes.

        What do you guys think?

I agree. They can afford a FEW blues/funk numbers, just to break things up. They get a little closer with Chili Peppers and The Who's "Eminence Front" is a breath of fresh air for the series.

Sending my guitar off in its coffin today. I'm hoping I get my replacement in time for RB2.

I finally got around to playing the SOAD songs this morning and HOLY COW is BYOB difficult on expert guitar. I can't even get past 10%. It should be a tier 9 song, but I think it's only tier 8. I didn't struggle with anything until I got to tier 9 when I originally played through the single player tour, and I can beat everything now, but this song is ridiculous.

I love playing BYOB. The bridge is definitely the toughest part though. I don't think I'll ever do well on that part lol. I finally was able to get the pattern of the ending down, which is pretty much the intro also. I also find the verses kind of difficult... I kinda just alt-strum the notes and hope I hit them. I'll occasionally get a 4x multiplier on it, but its pretty rare because I'm just strumming aimlessly lol.

And I also love playing Life is Beautiful. One of my faves to play on guitar now.

Two reasons why I think it's only a tier 8:

                    A) Parts of that song are incredibly easy. That might be what brings it down

                    B) They are starting to move towards tiering songs based on what'd it be in RB2. We already know we'll have much harder tier 9 songs than RB (Battery, Panic Attack, etc) so maybe that's how they're looking at it.

"Warner doesn't feel like it's getting a fair financial shake from games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Warner Music Group CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr. said in an earnings call today that the money the industry is getting from games that "are entirely dependent on the content we own and control, is far too small." He painted a gloomy picture of being fiscally left behind while rhythm games profited from in-game tracks and downloads, pointing to MTV and Apple as having built successful business off of licensing.

He called for greater industry participation, threating "we will not license to those games" if higher royalties don't fall in line with the "true value" of the game's music.

Since we're not privy to the insides of Warner's treasure chest, we're not sure what kind of cut that particular group of labels is getting, but who doesn't want more money? Our initial reaction to Bronfman's kvetching is that the music industry should be careful not to shoot itself in the foot, writing off licensing deals with two games that are a fantastic way to introduce a burgeoning market to your new and archival catalogs. And with such palatable DRM.

But hey, we just work here."

Damn, I think this could unfortunatly lead to higher DLC prices in the future.

Either that, or it excludes alot of good bands. Either way, we likely don't win.

I don't know what Warner gets but I'm sure they're just being greedy. They wouldn't be wise alienating a company that can easily market their music by asking for more money.

And Harmonix would not be wise either to raise their prices. Sure, they may only go up a dollar but $2.99 a song would sure make people exceptionally picky about the songs they picked. I probably wouldn't have half the DLC I do if I had to spend the extra $1. I think $1.99 is a good price.

Now, if they were to charge $2.99 a song for certain bands which cost more to get the rights to (Floyd, Zepplin, Beatles), I'd understand. But for everything, would just not be wise.

I agree completley. I definatly think that Warner is being greedy, five years ago there was basically no such thing as the music industry pulling in money from video games. This is basicaly bonus money for them. I am already picky at the $1.99 price point, but I think it's a fair price.

As far as I'm concered I'd pay $5 a song for songs from bands such as Floyd.

THe music industry robbed people for years. The 21st century has not been kind to them. They aren't needed like they used to be. The tighter they squeeze the worse it gets.

They should be happy they have a new stream to push new music AND make a little money. Their grip is very weak.

::crystal ball voice:: I'm predicting a future where Harmonix creates a music label, and bands sign to it. It will begin with indy bands, but one high profile band with alternative views(NiN, Pearl Jam, Radiohead) will turn the tide, and the face of music will change forever...oohhmmmmm....
