    Re: Harmonix's Rock Band Discussion

The wife & I finally picked this up today, as we finally had a little extra cash. Having a blast thus far with her on the drums and me on guitar. I tried to sing 'Say it Ain't So' through the headset while playing guitar... not so good. And I even know the lyrics to that song pretty much by heart. I imagine that I'll be able to do a few guitar/vocal turns once I get back in the swing of things. I had GH2 but skipped GH3, so it's been a while...

I plan on raiding the DLC after my next paycheck on Friday and I'm aware of all the good stuff waiting for me as I've been checking them out for months. Anything else I absolutely need to know about this game to fully enjoy it?

Just got my Xbox Live back up and rnning and got my first batch of DLC, and it feels good.

I got Oasis pack, Metallica pack and Hysteria so far.

I think I'll be having nightmares about the Metallica pack. Shiiiiit.

You can sing through the headset?

You can sing on any microphone that you can plug into the 360. With the headset you just plug it into a regular controller as you would to use it to talk over LIVE. Then you don't have to use the USB microphone... Although I've heard it doesn't pick your voice up nearly as well and is harder to play with.

Yeah I've used it for singing. The USB mic that comes with Rock Band is better, but the headset mic is serviceable if you don't have any other options (or a mic stand).

Do you have mic stands to be able to use the RB set and play guitar?

I'm gonna edit as I go, but for right now, I will say that "Devour" by Shinedown is a freakin fun song on the guitar

EDIT: "Junkies For Fame" is a good song to listen to. An easy 5-star song (on Hard at least), but the solo is tricky (but not long enough to cause problems)

EDIT2: I also picked up "Tell Me Baby" by RHCP because I had the extra credits now. Not a bad song. A bit repetitive, but I think it will be a fun full band song

Is Junkies live or studio? If it's a studio cut, where is it for download record people!! It's still not been released on an album, and all I have is a really good live version from a few months ago.

It's a studio version and they definitely need to put it up on iTunes now or something cause its a good song

Yeah, they have been playing it live for over a year, it's an awesome tune. It was supposed to be a bonus track on the newest CD, but never appeared. I was shocked when it showed up for a Rock Band download.

You don't HAVE to, but I imagine it's the easiest and most practical way. There are other ways that I imagine would get tiring after a while - like having a friend hold it in front of you while you play, taping it around your head, taping it to your chest so that mic piece is up around your chin, laying it on a near-by shelf and screaming as loud as you can... Etc, etc. You get the point.

Yeah a mic stand is definitely the most convenient way of doing it. If anyone has some creative ideas for singing and playing an instrument without using a stand or the headset, I'm all ears.
