All you need to see is the Super Duper Mart if you don't have time. VATS = Endless fun. Those kills were some of the best I've ever seen in a video game. Woot!

Oh and the reverse pickpocket with the live hand grenade? Classic!

    Day one purchase for me.

Love the music. Those vids have me more excited than the E3 gameplay vid.

You may want to avoid the first vid and last vid though if you are against anything that might give away quest/story stuff.

          From PC Gamer

Fortunately, Fallout 3 will not use Oblivion's level-scaling, but contrary to what you may have read elsewhere, scaling isn't completely discarded. The first important change is that creatures never scale up in abilities to match your level, so each Deathclaw in F3 will always have the same attributes, regardless of your character's level when you have the misfortune of encountering it. Second, each territory in the game is now assigned an encounter level that determines the level and equipment of critters when you discover that area, so a first-level character that wanders into an area designated as "encounter level 5" will be badly outmatched by the inhabitants. Loot is also generally scaled to the area's encounter level, but some items will be hand-placed, which is similar to how Morrowind handled loot.

An area's level doesn't remain static, but it gets locked as soon as you enter it. If you enter a city block designated as a level 5 area, it will remain a level 5 area and never scale up in difficulty. Areas you haven't yet encountered do "tether up" in difficulty level, but the tethering level doesn't linearly scale with your level, so there's still an advantage to gaining experience levels. The city block that's initially designated as a level 5 area will tether up and be designated as a level 8 area if you don't wander into it until you're a level 15 character. But since an area's level is locked once you enter it, you'll still get the satisfaction of returning to a previously difficult area and annihilating its residents once you have a more powerful character.

Bethesda's still tweaking these systems, but they should make exploration more interesting and not diminish the regard for advancement by making you feel like you can never really get ahead. I'd still prefer a static world like Gothic's, where encounters are always consistent regardless of your character level, but this toned-down scaling system sounds like a huge improvement over Oblivion's.

Wooohoooooooo! I hated level scaling. That system seems like a nice balance, but I'd still prefer no level scaling at all.

Sweet jeebus. I just started reading up and watching videos of FO3, and especially after watching the Super Duper Mart video, my anticipation is sky freakin high now. It looks like a more beefed up, futuristic Oblivion, which is pretty much a dream come true. Can't wait!

just saw the vids...this is the best game i've ever seen.

pure my opinion, but absolutely nothing i've seen can touch this game. I will do whatever I can to get this puppy the first possible second it comes out.

edit - i watched the videos from the marketplace(which are the same as the sites, it's great see on the TV i'll be playing it on.

Yeah this looks like it's gonna be special.

If it's as good as oblivion with modern combat and weapons i will be in gaming heaven for many a month......

I know, my buddy was like 'no way his head is nailed to the wall!'

The thing is until these vids on the marketplace, nothing has done the job of showing me what it will be like. First I heard of the game I picked up a gameinformer with the exclusive reveal. but seeing it in action is completely different (E3 vids looked washed-out and different to me)

Just the way the randoms talk to you in that bar was such a shock after playing oblivion...I love how everyone thinks they're a tough-A$$ it's got a post-apocalyptic-distopia-wild-west-classic,sci-fi-film-noire feel.

Fallout 3 Interview: Bethesda Addresses DLC, World Design, and 'Oblivion with Guns' Comments

Shack: As far as the DLC goes, what type of content should we expect?

Pete Hines: The type is really--we want stuff that's going to be several hours. Not just like a one-off thing, but something like where you can download it and play it for X number of hours. It'll be similar to what we did with Knights of the Nine in Oblivion, where it's like whole new quest lines, new stuff, that kind of thing.

We want to do stuff like that, where it's adding hours of tangible stuff to the experience. And it plugs into your existing game, so whether you're starting a new game, or you're playing for 40 hours, you can go off and play this.
Shack: Do you expect people to stick pretty close to the main quests, or are you seeing people just immediately going off to explore?

Pete Hines: One of the things we really discovered on Oblivion is that having a really well-structured and easy to get back to main quest makes it much more liberating for the player to go do what they want, because they always know they can find their way back.

You know, we did a game like Morrowind where that wasn't necessarily the case. People are more afraid to leave the trail, because it's like, "****, I don't know if I can find my way back."

Whereas in Oblivion, and definitely in Fallout, the experience where you go off for two hours or three hours or five hours, you always know you can get right back to what you were doing.
Shack: Are you guys getting sick of the comparisons to Oblivion? Like, "It's Oblivion, but with guns"?

Istvan Pely: It's two-sided, you know. It's a compliment, and at the same time we set out to make a very different game. We did not start with the design of Oblivion and decide how we were going to change it to make Fallout. We started with, "How is this going to be Fallout?" But we built on experiences we learned with Oblivion. So obviously it's a similar kind of open world--there's experiences with how to make that work, how to keep it exciting, so we applied our lessons learned. It works both ways for us.

Pete Hines: I think the thing that makes it most annoying is that it's said in a tone that's sort of like, that's the best that we could do. For guys like Istvan who have spent literally four years making this game, it really sells short how much time and effort they've put into making this a Fallout game that is true to Fallout. As opposed to just the bare minimum we could do, let's just re-skin all of our creatures to look sort of post-nuclear and just be done with it.

So much more time and effort went into it by the designers and the artists. That's really the only thing that gets me. We love Oblivion, we made it, of course we're proud of it. But just to say that that's all we did, the least amount of effort, really sells short the four years we've put into making this game.
