      Re: Halo 3 Discussion

Sure, there was a similarly numbered day back in the 70s. Way back then, the nation was enraptured with Star Wars, several Bungie employees weren't even single-cell beings, Frankie was running amok and surviving stab wounds in Scotland and Bungie, well there wasn't even a Bungie back then. But now there is and the importance of the seventh day of the seventh month in the seventh year is not lost on us.

First off, if you've got an Xbox 360 log in and poke around the Marketplace for new Gamer Pics and a Dashboard theme. We don't want to spoil the surprise, but the free Bungie-themed Marketplace goodies may replace some of those Gamerpics you've been using. One image features a wise Bungie-staffer with a very real and magical mullet.

Over in the Wallpapers Gallery, we've uploaded a lovely painting for you to ponder and consider decorating your desktop with. You've seen parts of it on the cover of U.S. enthusiast magazine Gamepro, but this is the full painting spread out before you. The image features a classic Red versus Blue encounter with some equally and mayhaps more interesting shenanigans unfolding in the background.

      Better than Fiction

We wrestled some pages from the story bible away from its keeper, Rob McLees, in order to give a little bit more detail on the just-announced Chopper and two Spartan MJOLNIR variants, the E.V.A. and the C.Q.B. Included on each page is a 3-D movie/screenshot (aside from the Brute Chopper page, which sports a pair of the quicktime images). In order to view them, use the left and right arrows or click and drag your mouse through the image.

      Description

The Type-25 RAV has become more common with the reappearance of the Brutes as frontline troops. Although it has not totally replaced the “ghost” as the primary rapid assault vehicle of the Covenant ground forces, it is usually piloted by higher ranking individuals. The vehicle is capable of momentary bursts of speed up to 120 kph (75 mph). The vehicle is armed with four (4) linked forward-firing light autocannons¹.

      Observations
Although this vehicle is significantly slower than many of those available to UNSC ground forces it is capable of nearly doubling its top speed momentarily through some unknown mechanism. The Type-25 RAV, while stoutly built, is very lightly armored and the driver is completely exposed except from the front where the vehicle’s prodigious engine provides more than adequate protection.

      C.Q.B.: Close Quarters Battle
      • The Mjolnir/C variant was developed and tested at UNSC facilities in Essen, Deutschland and Songnam, Hanguk, respectively; integrating feedback gathered from the Jericho VII Theater.
      • Developed at Beweglichrüstungsysteme of Essen and tested at the Special Warfare Center in Songnam, the Mjolnir/C variant focuses on improving combat survivability and mobility.
      • The intent with the Mark VI Mjolnir Powered Assault Armor/C variant was to improve survivability in close combat; specifically by looking at alternate methods of K dispersal and improving joint mobility.

      ================================================== ====

      E.V.A.: Extra Vehicular Activity
      • The MJOLNIR/V variant was developed and tested at the UNSC facilities in Lister, Aigburth, Ganymede; integrating feedback gathered from the Summa Deep Space Incident.
      • Developed at the UNSC Low/Zero Gravity Testing Facility on Ganymede, the MJOLNIR/V variant focuses on increasing exoatmospheric endurance and improving mobility in zero gravity.
      • In developing the Mark VI MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/V variant emphasis was placed on increasing exoatmospheric endurance and improving mobility in zero gravity without the use or thrusters.

      Fun Fact:

Codemaster and genius extraordinaire Adrian Perez told us a nugget of 7/7/07 trivia this afternoon while Frankie and I were embroiled in another match in our long running multiplayer rivalry. He said, "Did you know that tomorrow (7/7/07) is the most booked day in the history of Las Vegas weddings and has been so for ages." He read this somewhere on the Internetz and I believe him. Good luck, folks.

          Re: Halo 3 Discussion

I just pre purchased Halo 3 at my local Blockbuster by trading in 4 games for 1.

The four games you may ask? (all PS2)
          Tekken 5, Madden 2006, MVP Baseball 05, NCAA 2007.

Not a bad deal considering EB would probably have given me $10 for the whole package.

                Re: Halo 3 Discussion

After the Microsoft conference Bungie showed off a small portion of the first level in Halo 3. A couple sites have impressions up.

                1UP Editor Jeff Green

Finally, and now I must get these cold eggs off my lap and go to the show, I was privileged enuf to get a private showing of Halo Wars and Halo 3 last night--and both were tremendously great. And I am no big partisan of the Halo franchise. (I played both Halo 1 and 2 and like them, but have the typical PC gamer bias of not quite seeing what the big deal is--other than Bungie's typically great storytelling and world-building.) But Ensemble, in this early demo, is making a GREAT case for a Halo RTS, with some very ingenious controls for the gamepad too. I'll hit this more later, but my first impression was a good one. And Halo 3: Yow! Much, much, much better graphics than in the multiplayer beta. This is what they needed to show people. First time ever I've been wow'ed by Halo's graphics. You'll dig 'em too when you see 'em.

                1UP Editor Jon Davidson

To be filed under "subtle, but effective" is the new effect you see when the Chief's shield is being eroded. A flash of the iconic hexagon pattern gives you just enough visible feedback to see that bad things are happening, and it helps affirm that fact that you are really inside that helmet.

                Teamxbox

What we did notice right off the bat was the fact that while we were playing as Master Chief, our old buddy the Arbiter was fighting right alongside us and had a green arrow above his head that allowed us to spot him at any time. We asked Frankie about the, ahem, possibility of playing with a friend who was controlling the Arbiter, and he mentioned that, yes, that sure would be cool. Damn you Frankie!
Nearly everyone in attendance agreed that this was the footage that Microsoft should have closed the press conference with, as it surely would have impressed just about everyone in attendance.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I'm not planning on buying it any time soon and if I do buy it, it'll be used. I'm not a big fan of the Halo series and there are much better looking games (as in gameplay and story not just graphics) out there that I'm interested in.

I think Halo multiplayer is by far the best game I've ever played in my life. It is so much fun it's unreal. So I love Halo gameplay. I don't care that much about the story.

Halo 3 Video Editor in Action
Yeah, it's really as cool as you were hoping.

At a behind closed doors session at E3 2007, Bungie gave a comprehensive demo of its video editor. The video player was included in the Halo 3 Beta, but was only capable of saving entire matches. The completed editor is a true marvel and unlike anything we've ever seen in a console game.
Spinning around the seen of violence allows you to look at the amount of detail that's been added to Halo 3 multipalyer since the beta. This game looks great. While it doesn't match the visual fidelity of single-player, it's certainly a notch up from the beta.
