      From the latest update

Got a lot of questions about the AV calibration tool, and so I decided that it’s not terribly secret, so I should give you some info. Of course this isn’t on the same schedule as the game, so it could change slightly, but at the time of writing, this is all correct.

First off, what is it? Well, simply put, it’s a 360 app that helps you tune your TV to best display Halo 3. Now, we’re using industry standards to make sure that this actually helps with any and all TVs. These standards are as close to objective and “correct” as is possible to achieve, but again, the nature of this kind of calibration is by its nature, subjective. However, we’ve had them independently tested and verified by industry experts, so the settings, if correctly adjusted, should make Halo 3 and everything else you watch on an HD set, look better.

The process is seated firmly in the Halo universe – basically, Sgt. Johnson appears and guides you through a number of tests and retests. He will, for example, ask you to adjust the contrast on your set until a Grunt barely becomes visible from a white background, or to change your color settings until an image of Cortana becomes crystal clear. It’s all very simple – the only real challenge for the viewer will be making sure that words like “Sharpness” actually map to an equivalent in the myriad TV interfaces out there.

He’ll ask you if things are correct for say, the brightness settings, and then move you on to the next item. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes, and the end result will be confidence that your set is calibrated to industry specifications and if you prefer your settings brighter or darker, or warmer or m0ore dynamic – you at least have a great baseline to work from.

A simple audio test follows, which basically lets you make sure your 5.1 speakers are at least wired correctly. This is an upgraded version of the olde surround sound test. No more wondering whether your right rear is actually wired left rear. A Grunt makes it all perfectly clear…

Wasn't the September EGM supposed to hit the streets today? Beacause I went to a couple when i was out to take a look and they didn't have it.

It'll help as it's full screen. The NCAA tool is nice (better than nothing) but as it's not full screen the peripheral stuff can effect brightness and contrast levels when calibrating to a dark room. Color calibration however won't be affected.

Since the 360 is the system I don't have a tool for (DVE/GetGray for DVD, 'Talladega Nights' and Sony Blu-ray patterns for PS3, and HDNet for cable) I NEED this...especially since I'm not eager to pay for an ISF calibration with my recent TV track record.

If I have a sniper, I'm going to make sure I shoot you once in the leg, then melee you up close.

Hell, I could probably just walk up to you, with you shooting me, and beat you down without shooting once.

I thought that you cancelled your preorder for the legendary edition.

No, was thinking about it but then I would of regreted it. I got this, Mass Effect, Naruto Rise of a Ninja, and Madden 08 bought and reserved at Gamestop. That is alot of $$$$. I still need to buy and reserve COD4 Modern Warfare.

Wall Street Journal: Here Comes 'Halo 3' With a Side Order of Fries

For years, movie studios have linked up with well-known consumer brands to help create marketing that promotes food, retail and other products alongside blockbuster films such as "Transformers" or "Shrek the Third."

But the next big entertainment property to get the Hollywood-style cross-merchandising treatment isn't a movie -- it's a Microsoft Corp. videogame called Halo 3.

                                To put things in perspective.

Halo 2 was at 750,000 pre-orders a month before it launched.

1 million preorders number "premature and speculative"; Arcade downloads to cost $10 to $20 apiece.

Can Halo 3 top 2.38 million units sold in the first 24 hours?

I do know it's very likely it will top the 125 million in revenue that Halo 2 brought in the first 24 hours, because of the Legendary Edition and increased price for games this generation.
