Bungie Weekly Update
Co-op Hokey Pokey
We didn’t start the fire, but a series of reports that spread from an unfortunate leak of an upcoming issue of U.S. enthusiast magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly spiraled out of control and suddenly reports on the Internet included salacious headlines like “Halo 3 Co-Op Heads Offline” and heads needed to be dipped in ice water in order to prevail.
All we confirmed to EGM for their sweet, mind-twitterpating Campaign reveal (and other massive feature reveal) regarding Cooperative Play in Halo 3’s Campaign is that System Link co-op will be included in Halo 3. Just like we told EGM, we’re aware that people want co-op online but the challenge of getting our complicated A.I. systems, huge game world, and gargantuan encounters neatly packaged and transferring across the Interwebz is a mythic undertaking. Nonetheless, like other elements of Halo 3, online co-op is a feature we’re wrestling with somewhere in a muddy and muggy Florida swamp against a ton-toothed Alligator, but, what we haven’t really talked about is how big the knife we brought to the wrasslin’ match is.
All that said, EGM doesn’t really know whether or not Halo 3 will ship with online co-op, only Bungie knows. The only thing they did know is that co-op was available for split-screen and System Link. As we approach the tail end of development, we will have a clearer picture of whether or not that online feature will be included. Assuming either way would be foolish at this time. We will say more when we feel it’s prudent. Because that’s how we roll.

Re: Halo 3 Discussion
I hope that the closest stadium to Bungie needs fertilizer, cause they just laid out the biggest amount of bull crap in the last ten years. Our technical AI, complicated systems, blah blah blah. If Virtual Worlds can make a world as big as Crackdown's and have online coop and if Gears can put the whole single player campaign online, then Bungie can do it as well. It's not a FPS issue either because Close Combat First to Fight and GRAW have online co-op as well as Perfect Dark Zero (one of the first 360 games). Save it Bungie.Comment

Re: Halo 3 Discussion
System link and split screen co-op a cert, but the online implementation is not guaranteed.
Bungie has responded to an out of control rumour which stemmed from a leak from an upcoming issue of US video game magazine EGM. You may have seen headlines such as "Halo 3 Co-Op Heads Offline" but that's not entirely true.
It's not that the co-op heads offline, but that online play is still being implemented and may not make the released game.
"All we confirmed to EGM ... regarding Cooperative Play in Halo 3's Campaign is that System Link co-op will be included in Halo 3," said Bungie's Frank O'Connor. "Just like we told EGM, we're aware that people want co-op online but the challenge of getting our complicated A.I. systems, huge game world, and gargantuan encounters neatly packaged and transferring across the Interwebz is a mythic undertaking."
Frankie goes on to say: "All that said, EGM doesn't really know whether or not Halo 3 will ship with online co-op, only Bungie knows. The only thing they did know is that co-op was available for split-screen and System Link."
Don't expect a definitive answer regarding online co-op until the "tail end of development", at which time Bungie says it "will have a clearer picture of whether or not that online feature will be included".

Re: Halo 3 Discussion
Scans from Famitsu and some French magazine.
The Elephant looks awesome (kind of like a Sandcrawler). Campaign will consist of 15 missions according to that French magazine.
Also,
"The battle, just one portion of the mission, has more enemies and allies than the entire first mission of "Halo 1."
"That just gives you an idea of the scale that we're going for. And these are not even the largest encounters in the game," explained Jaime Griesemer, whose title is Bungie's sandbox design lead. "The size really ramps up as you go through."
If you are not familiar with the first mission in Halo 1, it was the Pillar of Autumn and it had something like 120 enemies.
The Scarab has appeared before in the "Halo" world. But not like this.
"In 'Halo 2,' he was a big piece of moving geometry. He wasn't really real," Griesemer adds. "He was hand-animated and didn't really react to what you were doing. He had a scripted path that he went on."
"But in 'Halo 3,' he's an AI (artificial intelligence). He'll chase you around, he'll acquire targets. If he can't find you, he'll search for you. He's the biggest character we've every done, essentially. And there are dozens of ways to kill him."

Re: Halo 3 Discussion
...
Bungie Weekly Update
CJ is looking at a level in the game that pretty much forces me to do a double take everytime I look at it. The level itself is unlike anything I’ve come across in my millions of hours of Halo, and CJ showed me an effect that occurs in the level that actually loosened my ability to control pee.
But not in the “I’m so happy, I’ve lost all control of my ability to behave like an adult,”-way. It’s more like: “OMG, I need to be held. And held tight.” The effect is jarring and intense, it, just like the level you’ll see it in, is radically different from what players may expect from a Halo-game.Last edited by Flawless; 07-29-2007, 10:55 AM.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Halo 3 Discussion
Microsoft and Bungie confirmed at a pressconference in, thats right, Amsterdam, that Halo 3 is playable via xbox live with four people at a time. That way four players can compete via xbox live with eachother or against eachother. With Halo 2 this was possible with only two players.
