    Re: Starcraft II Officially Announced

Never played the first one. I have only ever played Age of Mythology II when it comes to RTS games. I really liked it. Would I like this game if I like AoM2?

My laptop passes all the minimum values (I forget the site but I went to one that finds out if your computer can run something and used the Starcraft 2 beta as the option)...The only thing I don't pass on the recommended list is the vid card (I have a GeForce 8600 something, vs the recommended 8800)...

Think I'll be good to go to play this? I know I pass the minimum, and almost recommended, but didn't know if this game hits the vid card hard...Kinda cool knowing that my laptop is still decent after 2 years, makes it worth what I paid for it lol

It should be fine, my graphics card isn't good at all either, but i can still play on low settings without any hiccups.

However, playing on medium only gets me around 20 fps, and it doesn't feel as smooth when scrolling around

              Sweet.

Blizzard is apparently not fond of early adopters, but this is just hilarious anyway:

Anybody else more interested in the user created maps than the actual game itself?

Maps like turret defenses, or DOTA-esque stuff. It'll be real interesting what some of these guys can do with the new map editor since I saw a video where someone made a turn based RPG, andd a first person shooter.

                    Here's an example
                    <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xR6U4SI0O6A&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xR6U4SI0O6A&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

You can download it now from the website if you're buying online...then you just have to buy it on the day of release or whatever, but you've got the 7GB's all ready downloaded....

Question for those going the digital route: Will we be able to install/use the license-key of the game on multiple computers? My brother and I are thinking of sharing the cost of the game since he's a big fan as well but it would be pointless if it doesn't work on both of our rigs.

I guess the same question applies for the boxed version.

Can't believe 12 years of waiting is coming to an end. I was just a lil' kid when the first one came out!

You might be able to get away with installing it on 2 computers - that depends on how the DRM is set up and how many installs it allows (we'll know more about that tomorrow once it's actually out).

But I seriously doubt you'd both be able to play on Battle.Net at the same time with the same install key/cd key.

Interesting note - before I uninstalled the beta today (*snif* ) I noticed a grayed-out "play as guest" option on the main login screen - that wasn't there before. Maybe an indication we'll at least be able to play campaign mode with needing to log into BNet (though achievements and such would still obviously be tied to the account, and would only count if you're logged in)

I'm pretty sure this is correct. I would think there'd be unlimited installs but you'd still be limited if you tried to play online .... And, on the off chance that the disc is limited install, you could always download a copy online. Blizzard has digital copies of all its games now, as long as you register your CD key with your battle.net account.

                              Re: Starcraft II Officially Announced

Found a good info page on the install process, how many copies, etc..:

Wage war across the galaxy with three unique and powerful races. StarCraft II is a real-time strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment for the PC and Mac.

Basically, boxed copies need to be registered to download them freely, which means linking them to a BNet account. That's why you wouldn't be able to play the same copy on BNet at a time - because you'd have to both share the same account. No reason you couldn't both use it at different times, though.

And digital copies are tied to a BNet account too because you have to create that account before you can purchase and download the game.

So I guess registering the game either way allows you to download as many times as you want. I just kinda assumed there would be some kind of limit but "as needed" makes it pretty clear that there isn't one.

Thanks for the help, bcruise! The important part is that both of us get to play the game sharing that one key (during single player, anyway). Too bad we can't play online at the same time though.
