    Re: Starcraft II Officially Announced

Here's another angle on the system requirements...

I just tried installing it on an old laptop, and it did run. Not great, probably no more than 10-15 FPS even at the beginning of a game (that would get worse as the game goes on), but it did install and play on the Low preset. The specs are:

Core 2 Duo at 2.00 Ghz
4 GB RAM (damn thing has as much as my desktop PC...LOL)
    Vista
Integrated Video (probably the main reason it's slow)

Technically the game should not even be playable without an actual video card, but it does indeed run the game. For an actual playable game, the minimum card listed is the Nvidia 6 series, and those were from a REALLY long time ago.

Blizzard has always made their games accessible to low-end machines, and seeing it run on that laptop has me convinced that will never change.

If you are unsure that the game will run but want to try it out...I have one guest pass (the boxed version comes with 2, and I want to keep 1). If you're interested, PM me - it apparently allows you to download and play the game for either 7 in-game hours or 14 days, whichever runs out first. You ought to be able to get a good idea of whether it will run from that.

btw the mac performance of this game is not on par with the windows performance. i am able to run most things at ultra on windows 7 using my mac pro, but I can only get to high on osx(and that's with some chugging).

This game is so polished and good.

            10/10 So much to do.

I love the level up elements of campaign mode. Also the mini strategy games are sweet.

              Re: Starcraft II Officially Announced

Just had a pretty funny game in the practice league. It was Terran vs. Terran on one of the novice maps, which means the roads to the bases are initially blocked by a rockpile. I sent out an early reaper to scout his base and saw that he had a starport really quick while I was only building up ground forces. Moments later I found out what he was doing - he built a Raven and dropped a couple of those auto turrets behind my mineral line!

Rather than get all my SCV's destroyed I pulled the ENTIRE group off the crystals to keep them from getting shot. I was also sending the existing army that I had marching straight toward his base at the same time, because with no minerals coming in it was basically now or never. After blowing up his rockpile I met up with very little resistance inside the base - I knew he couldn't possibly have much of an army to get a Raven out that quick. Sure enough, a few Vikings, and a handful of ground troops were the only resistance I faced, and with those auto-turrets still pecking away at my command center and refineries, the other guy conceded.

I've also had a couple of base-race games where each side launches their full army at the other's base in an attempt to destroy it first. Fortunately Terran comes out ahead in those pretty often thanks to their buildings being able to fly.

My laptop passes required but fails recommended (bad vid card).

It runs stuff on medium with some on low/off...It hiccups rarely but I haven't had a problem with it...

Just glad it runs pretty well on my laptop, no desire to get a new desktop.

I'm really enjoying it too. Just finished the nighttime survival campaign. I've decided to move up to hard. Just the perfect amount of difficulty for me. I haven't tried brutal yet... but I imagine that'll kick my ***.

How are you using your research? My first level up, I chose the auto-turret. My 2nd one, I'm thinking of getting the flame turret instead of the planetary fortress. What have you guys done with your first two research options?

Alright I think I'm going to try it out. I do have a video card in the 6 series so I should be able to run it.

Hmm I've never actually decided what race I like the most. When I first started I was always Protoss but then I went to the Terran. By the end of it I was using both the Protoss and Zerg mostly. I have to give everyone a test run to start off.

                      I went auto-turret & flame turret. PF seems worthless to me for single player;

My computer can run it, but everything that has to dowith the graphics card has to be set to low. I plan on upgrading asap now for this game.

Any suggestions? I need something that pretty cheap but better than the GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 that came with my computer.
