    Re: Gamefly?

I jsigned up a lil while ago and living in the PGH area, I absolutely love it. I get the game the next day and even when a game has said Low availability I still get it right away. I dunno if it has something with me living so close or not, but I couldn't be happier. Beats throwing $60 around everytime I wanna game. And like everyone has said, the buy/keep it prices are much better than EB/Gamestop. Overall a good experience for me

Yeah I think Im gonna give it a try. I pay 35 to hollywood video and only get 2. The availability is pretty good and I get the game as quick as I can drive there.

BTW, I just got an email today saying that they opened another shipping center in Tampa, FL, for those people in that part of the country. It won't matter to me, but I'm glad to see them opening up more shipping centers.
Nice......I was hoping they had a shipping center in Tampa since I live in Tampa. I think I'm going to be signing up today and give it a try.

            Re: Gamefly?

Well after joining again Im getting close to canceling it again. The shipping times are completely ridiculous. I sent a game back on 4/4 and it was actually scanned into the system on 4/5 by the post office, thus allowing Gamefly to mail my next game out already on 4/5, well here we are on 4/9 and the game still hasnt shown up. Somehow my return already got to them and yet theres hasnt, and this is only going from LA to Oregon, not exactly a long trip that should take nearly this long. Sucks too considering in the past it took 2 days to get here once it had shipped. Starting to wonder if Gamefly has grown too fast because 3 shipping centers and only 1 on the west coast isnt going to be enough. Anyone else having shipping issues like this?

Yeah that whole "scan by the post office" thing doesn't seem to work most of the time. Either the mail carrier/post office doesn't scan it or there's something holding things up on GF's end. But yeah, the times haven't been as good as they were when they first added that feature. They normally take 4-5 days to turn it around in my experience. I just sent one off today, so I'll see how long it takes this time...

But yeah, considering you pay $8.00+ to rent a game from Hollywood/Blockbuster, it's definitely a much better deal. Co-signed on the 'Buy It' option being cheaper than anywhere else... the used game store and 'keep it' options are probably the best part about having GF.

No issues on my end but it is very rare I see a game from California. I get 90% of my games from Pittsburgh.

I'm still having a terrible time as well. I sent two games back on the same day over a week ago. They sent me an email they received the first one, but never the second game. I still don't know if they have the second game.

Another time I had to file a lost game report because they never received a game two weeks after I sent it in. As soon as I filed the report, one day later they magically have the game somehow and update my account. That's interesting...

I am weighing the option of canceling my membership since joining in December. It used to be fast the first 2-3 months as far as shipping/receiving games (used to get there in 1 day). Now.. I am finding too many times..I send 2 games at the same time.. one gets there 2 days later and the other the next day or maybe the fourth day when they say they receive it.

Also, I am not getting games at the top of my list either, I am getting games that are 8th or 9th on my list.

                    So I am thinking hard..

Not having problems with getting games really low on my list, but the shipping thing is annoying. The game arrived today finally, I have to figure out if this is going to be the norm because the shipping times were completely ridiculous, imo.

                          Re: Gamefly?

Honestly, I just sent them an email yesterday concerning this. I'm on the 4-game plan, because I'm a freak like that. I like to have a ton of games home at once. I sent two games back two weeks ago, and I had 5 games in my queue. I've noticed that if I don't have an open slot available when a new release is ready to ship, then I won't see it for a very long time. It's immediately on "Low" or "Very Low", which is somewhat understandable, but...buy more copies, then! What's more is that I had 3 more that weren't even brand new, but maybe a month or two old, and listed at "Medium"...a 50-74% chance of shipping same day. They sat there with only 2 games out for over a week! I had 5 released games in my queue, from Low to Medium availability, on a 4 game plan, and nothing shipped for 25% of the billing period. That's getting a little ridiculous.

I think they leave the games sitting in a warehouse bin until the people can get around to scanning them, so you may have two games shipped back at the same time in separate bins, some taking days longer to scan than others.

It's tough to say...sometimes I'm pleased, others I'm very unhappy. Today happens to be a frustrated day because I'm not getting the service that I'm paying for. They grew way too fast for their operational capacity, as I have NONE of these problems with Netflix. Gamefly is just too big for its britches at the moment, so to speak.

                            Re: Gamefly?

So far gamefly has been wonderful to me. I've been a customer for almost two years and the "keep it" prices can't be beat on the newer titles after about a month or so.

The most I've waited for a game to return to me was 5 days due to a holiday and gamefly closing for inventory or something of that nature, so I could deal with that. Ever since they got the scan at the post office system going 3 days is the avg release/return time for me coming from South Jersey to I believe Pittsburgh and/or Tampa are my closest shipping locations.

A few tips for people who aren't fully satisfied with gamefly due to shipping times.

                            1. You must realize Gamefly is a rental service so having only the games you really really want on your list severely limits you. So use Gamefly to test out games you normally wouldn't if you don't like it send it back right away...where is the harm in that??

I used to only keep the newest games I wanted on my list and found that I would be waiting FOREVER to have them come available. Waste of time and money.

                            2. If you know the game you want releases soon send an expendable game back about 2-3 days in advance if your postal service doesn't scan then try to get a full week ahead. Doesn't work every time but it works well enough that I've gotten Smackdown vs Raw 08, Saints Row, CoD4, and C Hoops 2k8 all within the week it was released.
(Gamefly release dates are somewhat late)

                            3. Try to get your games out at a uniform time every week you decide to trade something back in.
(I personally use Mondays so I'll have a new game by mid-week or weekend) Maybe its just my imagination but it seems to speed up the process.

                            That is all.......lol

I've used Gamefly for at least 5 years, so I'm pretty well-versed in how to use it by now. The problem is when you run through almost everything you want to play and you use it to not buy brand new stuff that you may beat in a hurry. Then you're up a creek. I don't care about renting some 2 year old game that I played a long time ago. I care about playing games that I don't want to buy, and for that, they got too big, too quickly. You can hardly find a single release in the past 3 months that's "Available Now" at any time, and at least to me, that's not particularly good.

Exactly, I agree with everything you said. I have over 40 games in my queue and still have the same problems you mentioned. Gamefly grew way too fast, 3 shipping centers in the entire country and thats it? You brought up Netflix and I know for a fact they have more then 3 shipping centers just on the west coast, its unfortunate, before I canceled previously, they didnt have this new availability setup and just told you if it was available or not and would send it, not this percentage garbage. I use Gamefly strictly to play and beat games that otherwise would cause me a net loss if I bought it, Uncharted for example, if that isnt possible then I guess I will go back to not playing them at all and saving my time and energy.
