    Re: Mafia II (PS3/360)

Has anybody with a PS3 seen the screen tearing? I haven't noticed any at all. Only graphics issue I saw was one time a car outside the apartment across from the warehouse had a couple of stretched points, but I've never seen it happen again.

Edit: Never mind, I just saw it, I guess I just never noticed before even though I had looked. Maybe it doesn't happen all the time?

Kind of like how Backbreaker is to the other football games, it's difficult to play another sandbox style game that doesn't incorporate the Euphoria engine and physics. This game was pretty bland to me for the little that I played.

By the way, anyone who plays this should automatically change the driving settings to Simulation. Normal is absolutely dreadful.

You can infact get ran over by cars. I remember when I tried running away from a cop on foot and a patrol car comes speeding in and smashes me. The screen goes white and I went flying down the road. I canceled my preorder for this and will probably just rent it.

From the gameplay I agree, but if they have to keep the demo at a reasonable size of say 1 GB, then perhaps they could only send lower resolution textures out with the demo.

I am hoping that is the case, as outside it didn't look too good. Inside and the cut scenes looked pretty good though, so I am hoping they just couldn't fit it in the demo size that they were allotted.

I played the demo twice yesterday. Did anyone else have trouble jumping over fences and other objects? Is that ability in the game or will I have to walk around any object in front of me?

Throwing a punch is very satisfying and looks realistic when people hit the ground. It also seemed like you can only fight with one person at a time. The physics overall didn't impress me as much as other sandbox games I've played.

The atmosphere didn't catch me like I thought it would, maybe I'll just have to play it a couple more times through.

Jumping is a little funky, there is no jump button at all but you can climb over some things by tapping the run button. It worked OK for me. On foot outside was definitely stiff and a tad awkward.

The only thing I noticed with jumping is that for some reason when I was up in these apartment complexes with a couple levels of stairs, it wouldn't let me jump over the highest point. I had to go down one level to jump over them.

I am also a fan of the original on PC. I tried the demo yesterday. I got to say this was a pretty poor demo as it went from a pretty sure purchase to back on the fence for me.

Some of the positives were destructible environments, hand to hand fights and the way cops react. It went from a ticket to an all out man hunt with lethal force.

The negatives were clunky controls, driving felt stiff and shooting at cars passing by got no reaction from the driver. Even the aiming felt a little off.

I know people are complaining about the controls for driving being stiff, but I can't help but wonder if that wasn't done intentionally by the devs. Reason being, there was no power steering in those days, and if you've ever drove a car without power steering, you would have to agree that the in-game driving feels pretty authentic in that regard.

I never really had a problem with the way it drives, but I also drive a boat of a 67 Buick.

where is the last playboy mag? I've found the ones in:

                            *the clothing store
                            *the gun shop
                            *the restaurant
                            *my house

I know its in a warehouse, but does anyone have some directions?

You find it when doing the mission. Its on the first floor in a room with a glass window opposite the stairs.
