Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
I played for about an hour last night and finished 3 cases. I am currently doing "Buyer Beware" and about to start an intergation. As others have said, the game is amazing and if I didn't have to work in the morning I would have played more. Can't wait to get back to playing.Comment

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
Where have you been Football? You still on the PS3 man or did you switch to the Trey60 with the network being down?
This game is utterly amazing and the facial animations alone are worth the ride. I cant wait to get home later to continue playing. I only played for an hour, so that wasn't much time to really feel this game.Comment

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
I agree with mudtiger. I picked up the game yesterday and felt underwhelmed with the gameplay. I understood what this game was supposed to before I bought it but while playing it, the lack of action bores me. I know it wasn't supposed to be a typical Rockstar game but it feels more like a GTA add-on than a full game.
As mud pointed out, I wish the gameplay was more varied and had some type of depth to it. For now it just feels like the game holds my hand and takes me on this journey more like a interactive movie than a video game. The city is huge but there doesn't seem to be any incentive to drive around it. The cars drive floaty plus there doesn't seem to be much difference in one car to another besides just cosmetic looks. There are much more cars to unlock but I didn't get that "oooh, I gotta have this car" feeling that you get with most sandbox games. Maybe its the time period but I dont feel like there is any reason to scout out any particular car as there isn't anything to do once you do get a car besides drive to point A.
I dont care what most say, the lack of being able to wreck havoc and use your firearm in public bores me. Not that thats all I want to do but in the other sandbox games, the charm comes from being able to do what you want to do with any gun or car you see which leads to some unpredictable and unscripted moments. In LA Noire, you get a feeling that everything that happens is scripted and totally kills the sandbox feel. When the case is over, you just hop to the next case with no inbetween driving, no lets play pool or fight club games, no jump off a building with a parachute mini games...nothing.
As far as the detective work goes. I dont like that the game holds your hand throughout it all and when you turn the chimes and clues off, it doesn't get any funner. It just means you'll spend a lil bit more extra time at a crime scene looking for clues without aid. Does it make you feel a little bit more like a detective? Sure. But since this is a video game, you can expect that everything has been placed for you to find instead of doing quality detective work ala Still Life or even CSI. To top it off, even if you dont find all the evidence, you can still question a suspect and have the game go through its motions to get the case solved anyway.
The action sequences for the cases are the only thing this game has going for it, nuff said. But on a sad note, 2 of the sides missions I played basically ended the same way. Reminded me heavily of Streets of L.A. Where there were basically only 3 or 4 types of side missions.
Anyways, my beefs with the game involves a lack of action. I halfway knew what I was getting into when I bought this game. I expected detective work, driving and few shooting opportunities. I got exactly what I expected but now I crave more. You cant make a sandbox style game with only 3 very linear types of gameplay. Its a waste of a huge and detailed city.
By the way, my lady loves the game. She says because she can play it. Meaning she doesn't have to aim and shoot alot, jump buildings, run from police while getting shot at, drive and follow a gps map all at the same time. LA Noire is a lazy walk in the park compared to the other sanbox games. There isn't much to do besides look.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

This was stated long ago that those who thought this was close to a GTA or RDR were going to be turned off.
I love this game because is a game that allows you to go through the pace and actually think and look for clues or facial expressions. If I wanted to run and gun and do crazy criminal acts then I would play GTA.
This is suppose to be a detective game with small action and some old school theme to it.
I would hate to have seen another GTA style game when you are suppose to be the good guy. Makes no senseComment

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
I cant believe you guys are saying facial animations and the story are worth the ride or purchase shall we say. Ummmm.....there are these things called movies that come on all day and all nite if thats what you're into....
Seriously, I would call LA Noire an adventure game more than anything else. And there are other adventure game out that give me a more immersive experience than this game. Immersion in the form of playing the game and getting sucked into the enviorment instead of watching and playing a interactive movie. The Sabotuer gave me more thrills and it was in the same time period.
I'm lucky I was able to buy a pre-owned copy from GS on day one. I will more than likely take this back before the 7 days is up.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
Different strokes for different folks. Personally I find playing pool and bowling is insanely boring and stupid. There are only so many times running through the GTA world and killing a bunch of people is fun. It is fun the first few times, but after the novelty is worn off, I want something to keep me playing the game. I would rather have a shorter more concise journey that tells a great story than me trying to manufacture my fun.I cant believe you guys are saying facial animations and the story are worth the ride or purchase shall we say. It is why I enjoyed Dragon Age over Oblivion. I know a lot of people who prefer Oblivion to Dragon Age. It is all about preference.Comment

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
I respect your position, but I respectfully disagree. I believe you're right on in calling this more of an adventure sandbox than a traditional sandbox, but I think the game completely succeeds in what it sets out to do... have engrossing stories that you get to figure out what happened piece by piece. As I've played cases, I've been completely interested in how people will lie to me, and how they react when they've been caught in it.Seriously, I would call LA Noire an adventure game more than anything else. Yes, this is like a movie. However, I get to control the main character in this movie, and I control whether he ****s up or makes the right call. I do believe this is worth 60 dollars, as I've already had a lot of fun with it, watching how stories unfold, how a story might look one way but evidence shoves it in a completely different way. I love interrogating someone more than I enjoyed an **** firefight.

I had more fun playing Still Life and Syberia 1and 2 on the PC when it comes to adventure. I understand that is a detective game but even the detective parts of the game leave much to be desired. You're still being baby-sat throughout the process and the only real thinking you do is picking questions for the interrogation phase.
Play a game like Still Life or even Penumbra for the PC and get back at me. LA Noires selling points are the facial animations and the story. After that, what else is there to it?http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
I agree Giggas, good points. This game reminds me in so many ways of another gem, Heavy Rain. You get to make different decisions along the way, but you are handheld to a degree. I like to have a game every so often that shakes up the experience and genre from the same old type of titles out there.I respect your position, but I respectfully disagree. Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
L.A.Noire is exactly what I was hoping it would be. I'm only a few cases in but, the stories and twist have been awesome so far. I can only assume that they get better as you go along. My only minor complaints are... I'd like to see less chases. Not every criminal runs away, do they? Again, I'm only a few cases in so this could change. And my second complaint is hard to explain but, while driving I miss the line on the map that leads you to the waypoint. Perhaps there's way way to turn it on that I haven't noticed. Also, in a way I guess it's a good thing because I realized that I use it to much as a crutch and I need to just learn my way around.
The only other thing I can say is it was probably a good decision that I never wanted to be a detective. I much better at being a criminal (stealing things, running people over and shooting up the city) than I am at interrogating people & finding evidence. What does that say about me?

If you're driving to a waypoint, you can hit X and your partner will give you which way to turn at the next intersection. Perhaps it's not the line, but it's pretty helpful. And my second complaint is hard to explain but, while driving I miss the line on the map that leads you to the waypoint.
