Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
Yeah, she's pretty cool like that. Whenever I get an RPG type game, she always says, "Let make a hot chick!" so that's usually what my character is. Works for me, too.
I basically control the game, do the fighting, etc. The wife is heavily involved in character creation and dialogue choices.Comment

Re: The Quarians are the Mexicans of the Galaxy
Laughed out loud when I red about them in the Codex.
1. Their flotilla is called the "Migrant" Fleet.
2. They travel in cheap small ships (vehicles) that are overcrowded.
3. Other species try to keep them out of their territory.
4. They are hated by other working classes because the Quarians come and take their jobs.
5. They liven up their surrounding with colorful quilts and tapestries.
The Quarians are the Galactic equivalent of Mexicans!

This is not meant to offend, mind you, just something I noticed in the game.
This is some funny sh!t

Great observation

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
I was up until 3 also. I got out of the Citadel and could not quit until I completed the first mission. I love the combat system and I'm going through as a soldier the first time lighting people up with the assault rifle. I could see replaying this easily 2 or 3 times as different character classes.Comment

word any game my wife is involved in is great......she loves anything with a create-a-player....she especially likes ME because it has selective dialouge too....you know how they dig "drama"...Yeah, she's pretty cool like that. Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
As a longtime gamer I can tell you the reason we don't see a lot of games with cut scenes is because people got tired of sitting through crappy dialogue, laughable plot lines and horrible graphics, not to mention terrible lip synching. Until I played this game last night though I had forgotten how much well done cut scenes can add to a game.I played for about 4 hours last night and loved it! The character creation was really good. My wife gets into this kind of game, too, so together we created a hot female character. I was torn between Soldier and Vanguard and went with Vanguard (so I could see some stuff other than shooting weapons).
This is the closest thing to an interactive movie I've ever seen. All games should have cut-scenes like this, where you control the path of the dialogue, while the game uses cinematic cut-scenes. The music was fantastic and really immersive, too. I had this sucker cranked through the 5.1 system, the lights off, and it was like controlling a really good sci-fi movie.
So far I just beat the first big mission and got the first achievement and I love it. My one complaint though is it seems very linear so far and I was hoping for a more "you can go anywhere and do what you want" type game (like Oblivion).
For those who have played more and/or beaten the game does it stay linear like it does in the first part or do the shackles come off at some point, if so about how much further do I have to go to see some open exploring?Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

From what I understand the main storyline is linear but you have the option to branch off and do side quests. As a longtime gamer I can tell you the reason we don't see a lot of games with cut scenes is because people got tired of sitting through crappy dialogue, laughable plot lines and horrible graphics, not to mention terrible lip synching. Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
The only thing I don't like about the game is driving the Mako around. I would much rather fight people on the ground then having to jump over missiles and shooting.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

I stayed up until 4 in the morning playing the game then woke up and started playing again. I kept saying that I would just do one more mission then go to sleep but I couldn't stop. If it wasn't for this paper that I have to write I would be playing right now.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
I really can't believe that I sit through all the dialogue. Usually in rpg's I turn the subtitles on and read real quick then skip through everything but I actually listen to what they have to say with the subtitles off and it looks just like a movie. As a longtime gamer I can tell you the reason we don't see a lot of games with cut scenes is because people got tired of sitting through crappy dialogue, laughable plot lines and horrible graphics, not to mention terrible lip synching. Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
So does that mean you like it?
I've found myself just taking it all in while I listen. What I don't like is the little hints afterwards that try to move me along like I don't know how to press the A button.Comment
