If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :) -

X-Play 5 out of 5
I haven't gotten far (just completed Eden Prime) but I already love everything about this game, the controls, the visuals, the classes...everything. I am going to be spending a lot of time with this one.

Male - Adept - Spacer - War Hero
My guy is sort of Asian looking and I'm skewing toward paragon so far. I just reached Citadel.
I have to say, I think the combat is awesome.Comment

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
No I didn't read the book ('Revelations'), which is why the strat guide is even more valueable for me, but outside of story elements it has a planetary database, breaks down all of the classes, it really explains the various types of battle tactics you can employ, and more...
It's just a really well put together guide with lots of tid-bits of info.

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
Edge Shepard - Space Bandito - Ruthless - Infiltrator
My Shepard has a stone cold face. Blonde hair, black facial hair. Kinda goofy, but it fits. IMO of course.
I really like playing as the Infiltrator class cause I enjoy the tech powers and in addition to that, if you can pimp out your pistol and sniper stats, you can pick off your enemies from far away. Of course, when combat becomes close quarters, it's a totally different mindset as I am not capable of handling that. From there, it's just me throwing out overkill and grenades and trying to get some distance.
And I play my character just like I created it. Ruthless. Seriously, the decisions you can make during some of these missions... just brutal. When you guys get there, I'll tell you my choices. I'm anxious to see how you guys react, lol.Comment

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
Earthborn-Sole Survivor-Soldier-Going the Paragon route as always.
Just reached the Citadel. Even after such a short time, I'm already seriously hooked into the story, but then that's what I expected.
My Shepard doesn't look exactly like me, but close enough to add another layer of immersion.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
This game is...drool inducing. I'm loving it. The dialogue system is SOO ridiculously engaging. I've never been able to sit through listening to conversations in any game before, I'd always skip through just reading the text really quickly. It's never been too interesting. But with ME, it just sucks me in. I started with subtitles thinking that if it gets too tedious or boring I'll just skip through the conversations, but so far, the subtitles are just getting in my way. I turned them off and now am just enjoying the movie..er, the game.
The combat system seems fine to me. I already died twice on Eden Prime, but I am having a blast so far. I'm definitely having great fun so far. I LOVE IT!!!Comment

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
I'm in love with this game after only 4 hours. I've been exploring the heck out of the Citadel doing all these little side things.
And the scene were...
Spoileryou become a Specter is really cool.
The game has a crazy amount of dialogue and it's all very well written. This an RPG where I can't get enough of talking to people. Voice acting is pretty impressive, especially when consider the amount of dialogue. Captain Anderson looks funny when he talks though. I think he may use Botox.
I can't decide if I like the grain filter or not. I think it looks great for the dialogue scenes, because it does hide some flaws, but I kind like it off when I'm just walking around. I turned the motion blur off, since it appears to only be camera-based. I hated turning the camera and seeing blur trails from things.
Combat is really solid. It feels like a shooter, but it isn't. Maybe just wish you could get into cover a little easier, but I haven't done a whole lot, so I might get better at it.
There are no words to describe just how awesome the music is.

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
I played the game 6 hours straight since UPS got here. Not 6 striaght, I took a break to eat something...but other than that yea...
I cant remember the last time a game had me hooked. FOR 6 HOURS! Maybe the most i'll play a new game thats good is 3, other than that I probably spend a hour and half playing games. Because I play one sports game, then if I decide to play something else than I do...But Mass Effect...I can't stop.
As for those saying they finished it under 15 hours on some other game forums... I don't know how. 6 hours in and I haven't began the 3rd story quest. I keep getting side quest. I know the side quest don't reward you with much except add to the story, but the combat is so fun I just do it for the hell of it.
Loving this game, best game i've played so far this year.Last edited by Leahmic223; 11-21-2007, 12:57 AM.Comment

Dang Flawless, I'm glad you like the game. I know you've been all over it for quite some time now. I sort of expected you to be disappointed after so much hype.
I haven't played an RPG since Oblivion, but I'm loving Mass Effect so far. American RPG's are where it's at right now.Comment
