I joined a friend's game already in progress and levelled up to 6. If I log in tonight solo will I start right at the beginning. I enjoyed helping him but don't want to miss any of the game.

Before you log in and start a game at the character selection screen theres a tab (on the left I believe) with quests. Just make sure you select the first one and you should be back at the beginning of the story.

IMO the upside outweights the downside. Diablo 2 was an amazing game until all the bots and dupes started running wild. The thing I don't understand (and it's basically turned me off to the D3 forums because so many people are complaining) is why buy a game that has stated that an online connection is required and then "demand" offline?
exactly my viewpoint too...I agree in a perfect world we'd not have this but don't blame blizzard for this, blame pirates and hackers for it...

I don't think I saw anyone answer - but no.

You get a different "title" for beating difficulty levels on it - and I think your character appears differently (by a bit) on the select screen, but nothing else. It just makes the game more intense - especially at the harder levels, when you've got far more to lose.

The game will still get hacked and pirated.

I'm not demanding offline but I'm still disappointed in the decision to do online only because I don't see the upside from the consumer POV which is my POV. If I was a Blizzard employee I'd obviously be thinking differently.

I don't see an upside from our side, either.

They could have kept online/offline as separate games. Easy solution. You want to play online - then you create a character online and play it. You want to play offline - then play offline. Perhaps download your online character to play with so you can, in a way, have the character on both sides in different 'time lines'.

There you have it - you can play online with security. And when you want to play offline, you can play whenever you want and hack/dupe whatever you want (it's single player - who cares?).

I'll stop posting about it, because I'm sure it comes across as whiney at this point and it's probably annoying people, so I'll leave it alone after this - but they claim it's for the consumer as well, but I don't buy it. There were other solutions. They decided to go for heavy DRM for their own needs.

The real reason why Blizzard wants everyone online is so they can make sure everyone can access their real money auction site. Free to play games make fortunes off of people accessing their pay to play models so Blizzard wants to get into that action.

If they made the game offline they would have to omit that feature and that would take money away from people who may be eventually lured into spending real money on items. Blizz definitely know what they are doing.

Diablo 2 , for me, had no decline in enjoyment after hacks as I only really played offline and occasionally online co-op with family.
The game should really have been seperated online/offline so single player could be played whenever/wherever we choose.
I agree that the launch for the most part hasn't been that bad and it is what it is and since I don't plan on playing away from home I'm ok with it.
                        Just keep the servers up..

I'm not as upset about the online/offline thing. It's inconvenient when the servers go down or get maintenance though, but I understand why it was done.

My only beef has been that I expected a more smooth launch on the internet side of things and these errors/bugs should have been addressed before launch

The upside is simple, we won't have 20,000 rare items floating around, which is basically what ruined Diablo 2.

I understand what he's saying though. Some people who played D2 rarely went online and played offline only. Then find out that Blizzards making a 3rd one but it's online only. It's dissapointing to alot of people but Blizzard made the decision to cater to the online crowd and make $ from the auction house in the proccess instead of letting 3rd party sites cash in on their game.

Anyone using the AH? I used it this morning and bought an expensive rare. The ease of getting gold though helps though. I managed to loot a decent bow last night although I'm hoping to loot some 1H crossbows for my DH. Love my DH at the moment.

I'll be on after 8pm tonight if anyone wants to play. I'm still in Act 1
