And the orange fret is a headache at first, but I assure you that with a little bit if practice you would get the hang of it. I know it may sound hard to believe, but it becomes a whole different game when you "level up" so to speak.

I feel like you would have much more fun with this game if you were able to move up to Expert. I don't know... I just think if you just tried harder and harder and got there, you would eventually be able to "do the last button" and get better.

It's much more fun on Expert. Medium is just boring, IMO.

I've tried, just can't enjoy the game, and like you said, I'm bored of the easier levels It's my crossroads with the game/genre, and I think I'm throwing in the towel for good.

              I agree and disagree.

Medium would be insanely boring. Expert is much better. It takes time to get there though and EG has got WAY too many games to play.

I play on Expert but I don't play Rock Band that often anymore. But I won't delete it. I still play from time to time. The DLC has been pretty crappy IMO with RBII. RBI was much better. A lot more commercial tie ins now.

Still I never know when I'm gonna have a living room full of drunks playing rock band.

                Re: Rock Band 2

I was at that crossroads earlier this year. I never thought I'd be able to handle the extra button, but Medium was getting boring. I slowly took on the easier songs at Hard. I've heard all kinds of tips ranging from using one finger for two buttons to just moving your hand. It really depends on the song.

I say give it a try for 5-10 hours across a few days. I was amazed that just taking a day off in between seemed to help me. When I came back to it after a break I was able to do better. I still have a hard time with the 5 star songs, but the game is much more fun now, and was worth a few days of frustration in order to get to the point I'm at. Maybe in another 2 years I'll be able to handle expert

Took me damn near two weeks, man. First time I got Guitar Hero for my birthday the only song I ever played on Easy was Smoke on the Water. After that, I played the career mode on Medium, beat that in about four days, then moved onto Hard, then Expert. I failed some songs, yes (I had a bunch of problems with No One Knows at the time), but I got through it and became an Expert guitarist in the game thereafter.

Really, moving to the fifth button is like driving a stick shift: it's tough, strenuous, and at times can be downright maddening when you can't get it. And yet, every tip in the world someone else gives you may not work either. Hell, I know that no one else drives a stick like I do (when you get down to it). But in the end, it becomes a second-nature item to how you're performing said action, and it's neither something you think, fear, nor complain about. I don't think anything of hitting the orange button when I do, I just feel like it belongs in the song and I transfer my fingers over... but sometimes I just hit it with my pinky. Again, I don't think about it, I just go with what feels right in the given point in time.

It's nothing like driving stick, I was driving stick in 5 minutes.

Good try for the analogy though. LOL

                      Re: Rock Band 2

I play on Hard guitar and get 5-stars on most songs outside of the couple highest tiered songs, then I usually get 4, sometimes 3 on the insane songs. There's not a song on RB2 and the DLC I have that I can't beat on Hard, but there's a couple I struggle with for sure.

I've tried Expert many times and I can get 5-stars on the easy to medium ones, but I can't survive the hard and really hard songs at all. Maybe if I practiced at Expert more I could get better but I still have a lot of fun playing on Hard guitar. On bass I play all but a couple songs on Expert. Drums I'm still on medium, but I haven't even played the drums in almost a year now.

In 24 years, I've never once tried learning stick.

                        But I mastered expert guitar.

I usually will play the easy and medium songs on Expert and the difficult songs on Hard. I just find that sometimes on Expert, the notes on the really difficult songs don't always seem to match up as well as they do on Hard. Personal preference though.

I have found Medium to be getting boring myself in Harmonix games. For the GH games, I think Medium is a little better because the speed is much faster that the notes are coming down so it appears a little bit more challenging. I can play some "easy" songs on Hard, but that is about it. I think that both developers really need to have a level between Medium and Hard that starts to get you ready for that Orange fret. The jump from Medium to Hard can be brutal and a lot of times for me its that Orange fret that messes me up.

Yeah, I can deal with medium pretty well, but I don't play enough to want to figure out hard...that orange fret where you have to reach or shift always throws me off.

I usually just play now when I'm in the mood for a few songs, or if I have a party but that's not that often. Nice to have around but not a game I play often solo.

Really? When I was 15 I drove my first stick, drove stick from 16 till I was 30. This is the first time in my life not driving stick since we traded in my last car. I would rather drive a 5/6 speed than automatic any day of my life. I had a 95 Eclipse GSX AWD turbo that I got in a lot of trouble with. LOL
