    Hey guys,

We picked up Rock Band 2 yesterday and I'm dying to get some online time in with it. When do you guys usually play? Anyone going to be around tonight?

I can get some songs in with you probably.

Here's just an idea of what Free - All Right Now may somewhat look like on Expert Guitar (I charted this over a year ago):

          <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WsKzQ1g57DA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WsKzQ1g57DA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

My main problem with my own chart is probably everybody else's problem as well... the GYO chord. Believe me, I heard this song over and over on different audio sources, and every time I try and convince myself otherwise, the three chords that are repeated in the verses, though are perhaps the same chord, are strummed differently, because they sound different. If they were the same chord (or at least the first two in the verses), it would be a lot better.

            Blzer,

Not a bad rendition of ARN. Very impressive.
I have a tremendous amount of familiarity with this tune as it has been a virtual mainstay in the covers set lists of the three different bands that I have played out with over the last 20 years or so.

If this is any help, the inro riff (that is also used over all three of the verses) contains only 4 different chords.

The first four notes of the riff goes:
A5 (not your typical power chord X022XX but X02255 to create that "chime" on the high B and E strings)
Open A string (XOXXXX) followed by a D (XX432X), followed by another A5.

then in quicker succession (I play with U and D strums):
            Open A (XOXXXX), Dadd4 (XX403X) X 3 times [eighth. sixteenth eighth.],
            D (XX324X) X 3 times [eighth. sixteenth eighth.], back to A5.

To sum, here are the 13 notes that make up the riff. Notes in () represent single notes played i.e. not chords.

            A5 (A) D A5......(A) Dadd4 Dadd4 Dadd4 D D D (A) A5

The only inaccuracy would be that you use a GYB chord initially in the riff, then end with your GYO chord. But in reality they are the same chord in the song being the A5. But I see your line of thinking, however. You are charting the song on the most difficult level and someting has to give. So by introducing the GYO chord, you are making the song much tougher to play which is a must at that level.

I think your Solo is dead on. The fingering plays out much like the real thing.

exactly, you could only play with a band or practice when playing bass on RB1.

Thanks for the criticism, because it's exactly what I needed. See, that's exactly what I thought as well... I thought they were the same chord, and it pisses me off that I fought with myself for a long time to make them all the same chord, but I could never get myself to do it, simply because when you actually listen to the song, they actually sound different, in the exact way that if the original chord were a GYB, the second chord would be a GYO, and the third chord would be a RYO. Just listen to it carefully enough, and you'll know what I mean. That's the problem with not recording covers or... re-mastering masters. There are inconsistencies just like some times when it sounds like they pluck two strings instead of one before that chord (and you'll see when I change it up).

Unfortunately, I requested this video to be put up quite a long time ago on ScoreHero, and I was lucky to get this in (if you couldn't tell, this was on autoplay, which IMO I prefer so I can really see what my think is like instead of hearing clanky missed notes and the clanky strum bar... not to mention they won't take it anymore if it's a release on GH or RB). So if I choose to edit it at all, unless I mod my own PS2, I can get that change for myself, which I petitioned to change when I was making it, because I myself didn't like how 1) there was a GYO, and 2) people would take note that they are indeed the same chord, even though they sound different when played, and that's what I tried to replicate since I haven't tried playing this song on guitar (though I know how to play, and I know that A5 all to well, though 002200... I use it for Unwell, Everything Changes, and Stellar ).

But anyway, that's where master tracks are inferior to covers... if there are inconsistencies, I decide to go with that instead of what it should be, if that makes sense. I was just wondering if you agree with me that you can hear the same differences, as it gets a bit higher (I think they strum higher up near GBE or something... that or there's a guitar in the background giving those other sounds, I don't know). I just want to make sure that I'm not hearing it myself, because I even had a debate with somebody in the YouTube comments section about it.

Anyway, like I said, I think Harmonix may be pretty close to this version with the exception of how they'll probably change up these chords so they're the exact same. We'll see, though.

EDIT: Wow, I was always wondering why the variations of D thought they sounded different before the last A5, but it wasn't noticeable enough to decide whether I wanted to change them up all the time. If you see though, before the second chorus, they definitely sound different, which is why I added the yellow button for that last one.

Anyway, we'll see. I just wanted to put it up for comparison, because I thought mine was overall rather accurate.

Again, thanks for the feedback... much appreciated!

Me too, I don't like it. I just didn't want the same button combination for two different sounding chords (I mean they sound like the same chord, but strummed with a few different strings). Besides, they may make them two-button chords instead of three.

Only have my GH3 guitar for now. I tried playing guitar and singing at the same time last night...I sucked *** at that. Too hard to see the words and the guitar notes at the same time.

I'll probably wind up getting the drums at some point. And I'm borrowing RB1 from a buddy at work to copy over all those songs.

Love the new drum set. Only issue with it is when I get to do my freestyle drum fills I can barely hear them. I know that its velocity sensitive, but I have to hit the **** out of the pads to hear them. Anyone else have this issue? Any settings i can change to adjust it?
