I'm new to this genre of game, can anyone give me a quick synopsis of why Rock Band is better than guitar hero. Is is gameplay mechanics, graphics, songs etc? I preordered GHWT, but I'm having 2nd thoughts based on the near unanimous opinion that Rock Band is superior.

I think RB is better because of a few things but the core gameplay is mostly the same (except the new GH's seem be more lax in your timing). First there is the weekly DLC support for the game. You get at least 3 new songs a week if you want, usually there are 6 new ones. The fact that they add new songs weekly is the big reason I continue to play RB and hardly touch GH anymore.

I also like the atmosphere in RB better with the crowd sing-a-longs from time to time and how you can create your own character instead of stock ones like GH. Also GH has some presentation things that I don't care for like the sound effects on missed notes and note streaks.

Something that do like better on GH that on RB is the instruments and their quality. I never had a GH guitar break whereas there were many failures with the RB guitar. I'm sure all those RB instrument problems are much better now. I also preferred the GH guitar over the RB one greatly, but that could be because I had been playing GH since the beginning and was used to that guitar. You can use the GH guitar on RB if you want though, so it isn't really an issue.

The GH3 guitar would have been amazing except for the neck-body connection.

Thanks Aukevin, I'll keep the GHWT pre-order and get Rockband 2 game only, down the road.

I like how clean RB is on the screen compared to GH. The fretboards are always black in RB, with various designs on GH that end up cluttering the screen and causing too much distraction. Try playing RB for awhile and then trying GH Aerosmith on one of the Aerosmith songs. It's impossible to play.

The weekly DLC support is great, and even if GHWT is on par with RB in terms of weekly releases, there's an entire years worth of DLC that will work with RB2 prior to it even being released.

The charting on RB is generally considered more accurate than the GHIII/GHWT series. With GH, there are more notes that seem to be added just for the sake of making a song more challenging to complete.

Is there any song even remotely comparable to Visions on the guitar in terms of difficulty? I have beaten everything else I've tried, including Panic Attack and Painkiller. I haven't mustered up the courage to try Visions yet, but I want to knock out the Endless Setlist on expert sooner or later.

Is there any song even remotely comparable to Visions on the guitar in terms of difficulty? I have beaten everything else I've tried, including Panic Attack and Painkiller. I haven't mustered up the courage to try Visions yet, but I want to knock out the Endless Setlist on expert sooner or later.

I just cant get myself into a rhythm at all while playing it, the notes just seem randomly strung together

GHWT Release Date - 10/26

What a perfect time to have it, that way everyone (360, PS3) can get it and right before GHWT. It certainly be a way to take some excitement from that game.

Definitely agree with this. The interface on RB is far superior as well.

And another thing about DLC is that GH makes you buy packs, not singles and those packs actually cost more than RB. That was only when you were getting guitar/bass charts. They haven't even mentioned how much GHWT DLC will be.

Unless a recent rumor is to be true then it won't help at all. I also don't think they'd release JUST that,there'd probably be more.

Visions isn't even a song. It's just a bunch of randomness and yelling but that's nothing new after Trogdor and Timmay but at least they had consistant randomness and yelling.

Its a tough song but its not impossible or anything. It just has really weird note patterns. I haven't ever failed it... you just need to play to survive it. I dunno. Its really tough to describe.
