Promo for GTTV this week. Behind the scenes look, new campaign mission, and maybe some Halo Reach hints (doubt it).

Im skeptical about this game. They only had a year to work on it. I think Operation Flashpoint might be the way to go. Halo 3 ODST, will most likely be a pass.

they said above why they "only had a year" to work on it. It's not like they had to build the game from the ground up or anything.

            Re: Halo 3: ODST

having watched a lot of the ODST videos and knowing that we're about three weeks away from the release has got my pretty hyped for the game. And it's also gotten me hyped for multiplayer again.

I used to play Halo 3 online all the time but pretty much stopped when Gears 2 and Left 4 Dead came out (played a few randomly here and there but never truly "got back into online" if you will). I wonder if I've still got it. I'm not going to pretend I'm anything more than an amateur (lvl 40 in TS, probably would never get higher than 43) but considered myself to be pretty good. Now I look back on how competitive those high level TS games were and I wonder if I can get back to that level again. I say this because I believe the upper echelons of Halo 3 online to be more difficult than any other online shooter, and most of my time in the online world since I stopped playing Halo 3 has been in Team Fortress 2 where the community is so small it's hard to gauge how good (or bad) am at the game. I wonder how much my Halo 3 skills have eroded, and if it's at all possible to return to the level I once was at.

And to keep it about ODST, I also wonder how much Firefight mode I'll be playing. I hope I can strike a nice balance between Firefight and regular multiplayer because when Gears 2 came out all I did was play Horde mode, and looking back I kinda wish I had spent more time in multiplayer than I originally did (bugs and all).

              Re: Halo 3: ODST

The thing about Firefight is it's not as easy to jump into as Horde, unless you always have friends online playing, because there's no matchmaking. Obviously, it's always better to play with friends, especially in a survival type mode, but not having the ability to jump into a public match of Firefight is disappointing. It's based off the campaign tech and Bungie couldn't make drastic changes given the small team and short dev cycle. Shame really, because it's going to hurt the longevity of the mode. I imagine it could be tough to get a group together once Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 release, but I guess getting a good month out of Firefight isn't so bad.

wow I wasn't aware there wasn't matchmaking for Firefight, that is quite disappointing.

Seriously... I don't have much time for gaming these days, so trying to get my few friends that still play online together at once is near impossible. It had me re-thinking my purchase for a while, but I think I will still end up getting this. Having a friend that works at Microsoft and getting the game cheap always helps!

As for Halo 3 online I got into the game late and never played enough to get good, but I did really enjoy it. I wasn't horrible... made it up to 28 in TS and had a positive K/D ratio, but man i've tried jumping on a few times lately and now I AM horrible! Not sure if my meager skills have just eroded, or the people left playing are all really good but I get smoked more often then not. I was planning on getting back into online when finally getting all the new maps with this... hopefully some old regulars and new blood will jump back in the mix as well to level the playing field!

Wow, I am seeing that there are already people playing this game already, looks like copies were already sold somewhere in France and the game isnt supposed to come out for another couple of weeks. Surprised Bungie hasnt gone over there and beat up that store for selling it so early. I would imagine that you could find a lot of user gameplay videos on YouTube

but MS will likely throw down the ban hammer for playing this. There's no way that many people would have this legit in the US, so they're playing bootleg copies off the internet.

yeah they're bootlegs, I read an article about it somewhere. I remember a similar thing happened with Halo 2 because a friend of mine got a copy of the French version and we played it like three weeks before it was released in the U.S.

                          Re: Halo 3: ODST

Halo has some of the best music in gaming, so I can't wait to hear the music in ODST.

Behind the music of Halo 3: ODST - Interview with composer Marty O'Donnell

Marty O’Donnell: Overall I think this score is a bit more intimate and personal. We’re telling a human story, not a cyborg story. This isn’t a space opera but a story that takes place on earth in one city. Although the player gets to inhabit the shoes of several characters, they still primarily should feel like one person discovering the mystery that lies behind the ruins of New Mombassa. I guess that since I’m now 10 years older than I was when the first Halo music was written, maybe we can consider this score to be more mature.
There have always been bold and dark moods in Halo music but this time I’ve spent a bit more time accentuating the lonely feelings that the player should experience while exploring the destroyed city environments at night in the rain.
We still have plenty of heroic high action moments to score in this game. However, the city is where the “rookie” spends most of his time trying to discover what has happened to the rest of his squad. We wanted to echo some classic “film-noir” moods and that led to some of my instrumental and style choices. Some small combo, jazz influenced pieces seemed to be the right call.
There is almost no choral music in ODST. There is almost no connection to any previous Halo themes. My main thematic approach deals with the rookie and the city. Everything else grows from that. I think that there might be some thematic material that supports the relationship between Buck and Dare.
Actually the biggest challenge was the short development time coupled with the growing scope of the project. It was most satisfying to be able to stretch into some unexplored musical genres and spend some time there, but by the end it was quite a task to simply implement more than three hours of recorded music.

                              Bungie

                              A word on leaks.

Yup, they're real. And yes, they suck. Spectacularly.

As much as it pains us to say it, if you're looking to stay spoiler free for ODST we strongly suggest that you steer clear of our forums from now until you've finished up your first campaign play through.

From here on out, you may want to evaluate whether or not it's worth it to visit any online gaming forums or other channels where gaming discussion goes down. The only way you're assured to have a spoiler-free experience, is to go dark. If that's the call you decide to make, we'll see you shortly after 9/22. Godspeed, Seventh Column.

Oh, and if you do decide to stick around, best keep it clean. There's no quarter for leaks on Bungie.net, fake or otherwise. Links, leaks, and spoilers will be met with permanent bans.

Not sure how they would determine who to ban. It can't be just because you play it early.. how many people on here have played games before they are released?

From what I've seen, the copy of the game that's been going around was actually authored back in April or May. Which means either it's a really early copy or it went gold back then.
