Just built a new rig yesterday and played hit again fully patched with full details. OMG I thought it looked better than Shogun 2. Then again the little of Shogun 2 I saw was all night time scenes so not fair. But this game in full detail is amazing.

Anyone that's still playing it could you direct me to the mods again? I remember the smoke mod and the marching music mod were some of my favorites. Thanks.

Go to twcenter.com. A must download is ornamentum. It has its own subforum. Its about 45 professionally done new units.

The other mod I use is a colonial India mod. It gives France, Britain, Portugal and Denmark their Indian colonies at the beginning. It also helps with naval invasions.

Those are the only 2 I currently have enabled. If you play World conquest mode on Very hard and don't try to take any land before 1710, the game is flat out crazy.

If you want a total overhaul, go for Darthmod. But there were some things I didn't like about it. I think the game is best suited for 160 to 200 man units so they can use buildings, forts, and stone walls correctly. Darthmod has 400 to 600. It is something you should try though and judge for yourself.

I also think that Empire looks better than Shogun. But its personal preference.

I downloaded ornamentum, I'll give it a shot. Also some alt music. Wanna find a good smoke mod too.

You gotta get that colonial India mod too. It really makes the game. I can't just play Vanilla because India becomes a mess without it.

Also the Campaign AI in general behaves better with it.

Yeah, you may have to do a search for it on tw center. It was a small mod that was incorporated into Darth Mod.

Darth Mod is good, but it made too many changes IMO. One being it increased the cannon range, which sounds good in theory, but I found it made the defending AI leave its positions too much. The field was dominated by artillery. And based on what I have read, Artillery inflicted rather few casualties in real life. it was a great deterrent when holding a position, but not that great as an offensive weapon.

Try out Darthmod and see what you think then. Vanilla without a mod for India colonization is stale IMO unless you want top play as one of the Central European powers.

India is way overvalued in the game, but I like having the 3 theatres to battle in.

I can get any mod but the dudes links to download colonial India are dead. I'm going with Ornamentum, a music mod, and a smoke and blood mod for now. Haven't played in so long just gonna get reaquainted. Then I'll check out the other biggies.

Is anyone still playig this game? I had it on steam for years but finally sat down with a PC a lie to handle it in all it's glory. It is a bit confusing but similar enough to Civilization so I know I'll pick it up.

Beginner question: can I build more farms or am I at the mercy of what is already on the map? I am sure I will have more questions but so far I am digging this. Total Way and Civilization need to team up and create the best game ever

Haven't played Empire in ages. Shogun 2 replaced it as my favorite newish Total War game (Medieval II being the undisputed champion) and I am going to start another game in that very soon.

I still play it and Napoleon, I just never got into Shogun 2 the same and thus I have around 225 hours in Empire/Napoleon. And with Rome 2 just around the corner I have jumped right back into my total war games.

Shogun just didn't do it for me. Sat down with Napoleon a couple weeks ago and have been having a great time. I just wish they would have made Empire with the same diplomacy, battles, and graphics as Napoleon, or had a global Map in Napoleon. Empire was so good, that I just got around to really getting into Napoleon 2+ years after I purchased the game.

Found a No walls mod for Empire and it eliminates all those walled cities. Trust me, that is how you want to play with open field battles. The AI doesn't work too well in Siege battles. Napoleon has it right, there are a couple of cities with fortifications, but most battles are fought in the open.

This game is only $3 at Gamers Gate which just gives you a steam activation key. Can't wait to get back into this.

Considering I built a $1500 computer a few years back just to play Empire and its still the only game on my computer along with Napoleon and I still consider it a bargain, that is the steal of the century.

This was literally the game I dreamed of having ever since I was a little kid. You think of all the garbage games out there that cost $60, and then you play a game like this.......

If you get the game, you got to get the No Walls Mod and Ornamentum. Ornamentum adds about 60 very well done unique Units. The other Mods seem to frog the game up.

1 Last thing, to really enjoy the game, if you are the attacker, move your soldiers forward and don't pause the game to give orders. The AI is actually pretty decent. They will flank you and hit your weak spots. If you just sit back and let them come to you, the game can be too easy if you have too much artillery. I limit my armies to 2 or 3 units of artillery in the Colonies and 4 in Europe. It can be a nice challenge.

Anyone have any helpful tips for the Campaign mode? There is really no tutorial for it. I have about 2 weeks off from work starting Friday so I'm going to spend a good amount of time diggin in.
