With an older machine, I'm too leery of the FPS hit to use the smoke mod. Looks beautiful though.

I just finished my first online battle a 2v2 Eng,US vs Prussia and wow that was a lot of fun and really hectic. It turns in to a mess pretty fast..I kind of wish they had a flatlands map like RTW,MTW. People just kind of rush mass units instead of thinking about anything..Makes it easy to win though.

They released a more low end computer Smoke effect mod and I installed it and it works great.

I really wish there was a better tutorial for this game. This is one of the few games where I would actually buy a strategy guide for. all i can say is it is not very newb friendly...

Not a big fan of the game post patch. I've had 10 crashes in a couple days, 4 today. Two saved games are corrupt. I am having more problems post patch.

I'd uninstall/re-install. Its weird how strange this game behaves for some people while its fine for others. Unfortunately, from the looks of things we purchased a glorified beta.

I had my first problem today and that was when I finally took Paris from the French. The campaign screen slowed down to the point of having to wait for it to respond for 5-10 seconds.

Its hard for me to get a handle on how unfinished this game really is. But I would say, that yes, everyone who is playing right now is just playing a beta because what I have read, no sea invasions or sea transporting of soldiers by the AI coupled with Passive AI leads to a game that would be near impossible to lose. In fact absolutely impossible to lose if you play Great Britain because the AI will never invade your shores. Once you have captured India, America, or Any islands, they are yours for good because noone will transport troops over to fight there.

The battles look incredible though. And multi-player looks great, but I'm still holding out on getting that new rig until some of this gets hashed out.

Yeah I might do that. For me, it seems like everything they fixed for the patch, made it worse on mine. I love the game, but just hope for some fixes for the crashes, and making the AI use fleets to transport as well as being more aggressive. In one game, the United Provinces never sought Belgium, in fact, they weren't at war with anybody, they stayed neutral for over 30 years.

Also, though I know I am on very hard difficulty (as I need some kind of challenge in land battles), I find naval battles early on to be impossible, especially against the pirates. I had 7 ships (3 of them better than the pirate best) and the pirates had 3. 3 of my ships ran into eachother, sinking them. Then the one remaining pirate refused to route (though both hulls at pretty much zero, mine route if they have a value below green), and sank the rest of my navy. There are still some balance issues needed.

I was pretty shocked when I realized there aren't naval invasions considering sea exploration was a major key to empire building (the British empire circled the Earth during the 18th century and we all know they didn't get there by walking). Of all the issues to be fixed from Rome and Medieval, that was it. Its a major disappointment, but I'm just glad a fix will come one way or another. For now, being Russia, Prussia, Austria, Pol-Lith or the Ottomans seems like the only playable factions. The Russian line infantry is so bad they're a fun challenge.

Man, Russia infantry ARE garbage! The beauty about the Russians though is that you can churn out units like crazy! I had to settle up with Sweden though (after I took St. Petersburg of course) just because it is such a large country to cover. Plus, of course I have to deal with the damn Ottomons :wink:

Russia's feeling the wrath of Sweden in my campaign!

It was my 2nd attempt, I had to learn to be more patient. If you take your time, pick your enemies, and just slowly make your moves to take other regions you'll be fine.

I enjoy the strategy behind the researching too...

Right now my Sweden is dominating Russia, they have just 1 region left, but I've got Prussia still hanging around (I couldn't take them out early because Poland and Russia were hassling me as it was, one of those "pick your battles" moments). Once I clean up Russia and a few minor things I should be able to win this long campaign.

I think I need to up the difficulty on the campaign levels, I can just too easily get a full stack army and take a region (or have another army like that for a quick strike at 2 spots). Right now I think it's around 1737 and I'm nearing my Long Campaign goals...

I think on a higher difficulty it'd force me to go slower (on default when I tried to do everything by 1725 I got all the territories, but wasn't gonna be able to hold them because I was spread too thin and undeveloped).

I also need to get more into battles. Anyone know any links to FAQ's/Tutorials on battle strategy? I honestly just don't know much about that, so I end up sucking. I then just decide to auto-resolve because I enjoy the campaign aspect more (and don't want my lack of battle savvy to screw me up).

Yeah me too. Im not playing it until they fix it. The graphic for some weird reason look all blurry even on high. The campaign map is slow as well now. I never had any of these problems before the patch.

I found this guys videos really helpful,(Online but helpful for offline) he uses very diverse army's and usually wins. He gives commentary that usually has some helpful tips and the videos are in HD. I hope this helps and at the least they are fun to watch at work..lol.
