Hehe.. had the Americans send all of their line troops to meet me across the creek! I had taken out all of their artillery at the other crossing and just setup on my side at the left crossing and waited to see what they would do. Grenadiers can do some havoc to line troops all bunched up! Wow... of course my grenadiers also took a beating, but 40 deaths, like 200 kills... just lobbing grenades.

Coug, I turned the grass to low out of necessity, but honestly the grass looks fine on low.
That will be sweet watching these battles after they are fought.
I love those British light infantry/rifle unit. Deadly. They joined the battle late but they had 111 kills and 4 deaths.
I hid my dragoons on the hill by the house on my side of the river after the Americans had moved their lines up to face the line infantry it was over the American Artillery crews were crushed.
The demo is definitely fun. If the AI is playing on normal, I have hope for this game being great. They will exploit your weaknesses if you let them and their artillery is deadly if you don't adjust accordingly.
The nice thing about is I am using pretty standard British tactics from the period and when you use your units in cohesion it works out as it should.
The British units that we have at our disposal would make short work of the American forces they face in the demo.
Good stuff.
I've already got as much enjoyment out of this demo as I have some full price games.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

With the grenadiers you do have to hit the little grenade icon. Those old grenades pack a punch especially when thrown at lines like 6 deep, problem arises in the fact that you have to be close enough to those said 6 lines... lol.

I read on twcenter that the demo AI is on medium (someone already hacked the data file). So that's great news we will face stiffer AI competition by bumping it up to hard or very hard. I also read that CA is expecting a community mod within 24 hours after the release date that will make all 50 factions playable.
Mercurial, your gfx card is your downfall, otherwise you could probably play it just fine on low settings.
And yes, those grenadiers are fricken lethal. The last battle I had a wider front than the Americans and I placed the Grenadiers on my left flank and wheeled them at the opposing flank. The minutemen were occupied & vollying with my Hessians and the grenadiers were able to throw grenades uncontested. They wiped out the minutemen in less than 20 seconds with the grenades and the American flank completely collapsed.
BTW...if you hate the huge flags above the units you can turn them completely off or make them so they only appear with a mouse-over. The game looks great w/o them.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

I'm playing just fine with a 2ghz athlon with 1 gb of ram and an Nvidea 7300 series LE video card. I have unit textures and byuldings on high with large unit size. Most everything else on low. No lag.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Here's some good news for people who don't go to TWcenter. This is from a guy who attended the SEGA community event today.
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=228248
I'll start with something I deem to be bad news:
Only the 12 playable factions will be available for the campaign and custom battles. (but I think, we can mod them in quite fast ^^)
The custom battles are 2 on 2 max.
You should keep the naval battles small (at least for now) or else they will be lagging like hell (with 30+ ships)
There will be no native Americans playable.
In the version we got to play there were still some minor glitches
The forts and cities look a little bit sterile IMO
Now for something we can all enjoy:
It is now possible to save campaign battle replays.
The diplomacy now makes real sense. If you are in an alliance with someone you can try to get them to help you attacking someone, but if they decline your request your relations won't suffer.
If you are being attacked, however, and your allies don't help you, the alliance will end.
Also you can now see why exactly a faction likes or dislikes you and there is a map showing your reputation with all the other factions.
Your form of government will change with rebellions.
The AI has really improved. It will now try to keep its forces together, and either fight you from a distance from which you can't fight back, or, if they think, they are superior to you, engage in melee.
Also it won't charge blindly into your musket fire with their cavalry...
If it knows that there is no alternative to attacking your units in melee they will wait until your units have fired at them from the distance, hitting nearly nothing, and then they will charge while your units are reloading.
Pirates can be a real pain in the *** blocking your sea trade routes, but they are quite easy to get rid of.
There are so called trade regions (I don't know if they have been mentioned in any official english statements yet), which are Indonesia, the Ivory coast (?), Brazil and Madagascar, which you can send trade fleets to in order to get rare ressources.
You should escort them with battleships because everyone with a navy of his own can just take over your trade ships if you don't guard them.
There is only a limited number of spaces available for you to "park" your trade ships in so you better occupy them fast or make some smart diplomatic agreements.
You can influence the availability of resources by raiding plantages. This should lead to trade wars.
There is a system of steam achievements for players playing online.
All units speak in the language of their country.
And I think, that the demo was really really old. It seemed quite outdated compared to the full game.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Empire Total War: WOW!!!! Feb, 3 2009
The post I posted previous can be pretty much disregarded, for some reason this time I did the demo, all of them men in the unit fired cohesively and responded really well. I won close battles in both the land and naval and I found that the units didn't route as easily as MTW II, which is excellent.
I am completely converted into buying this game.Comment

Earlier today, I lined up all of my hessian and linemen units slightly uphill from the hidden long riflemen along the creek (who crossed the creek to intercept me). I had all 5 units fire simultaneously. In one volley their numbers went from 80 to 21 and they routed immediately. So damn cool. This game is going to be so much more fun than Rome and Medieval.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Got PC Gamer today in the mail and the game scored 94%. The downfall is the sea battles can be a bit unwieldy to control they said but it's still fun. It was a very lengthy review and they really gushed about the game. I still haven't had time to get the demo but honestly I think I may just hold off now as it may make the wait that much tougher on me, especially after reading that really stellar review.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Empire Total War: WOW!!!! Feb, 3 2009
How are they behaving when you turn off auto-fire? Mine will hold their fire until I right click on a target, then everyone will fire. However, after that its back to a free for all. I'm having to hit the stop command after each volley so they wait for my command before firing again. Anyone else having to do the same thing?

BTW. This game friggin rocks. I'm not real big on the naval battles, though. I'll probably just auto resolve them like i'm used to doing.Last edited by kapo; 02-23-2009, 11:43 PM.

From one of the demo files here are the nations that are locked, but will be playable with a mod. Some of these might just apply to the Road to Independence portion of the game. This will be badass to try to take a tiny faction like an Italian state or The Knights of St John Order and turn them into a world power.

Re: Empire Total War: WOW!!!! Feb, 3 2009
Am I the only one here who sometimes will just simulate all battles?
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best at the old school battle strategies, and when I'm going through a long campaign I'm better off simming because otherwise I lose way too many guys. I turn a "Complete Rout" to "Close Victory" lol.
I still like the battles, but I also really get into the world domination aspect, trying to get my empire as strong as possible. I think I like all that more than just battles, by far.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment
