Question for those more used to buying PC games nowadays: Is there any benefit to buying it on Steam vs. a brick & mortar store? Do you get packaging and other stuff? It's been forever since I've gotten a PC game, to be honest...Just seems weird to pay the same price on Steam vs. at a store and get less, you know?

I'll probably order the special forces edition. Yeah I know, its $20 extra $, but the map will be sweet too, plus I want the extra units right away. I'm ticked though because there are a handful of retailers that all have their own unique units too, so there are units that will be unavailable. Just give me a price for the whole game from the get go.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

The advantage of steam is the ability to download and play the game on any computer, without ever needing the disc. You can't lose the disc and not be able to play, since you can play on any computer on which you install steam. Looks like I will take the plunge and get a new desk top. There are plenty of dual core towers on ebay for around the 300 to 400 mark. I wouldn't normally do something like this, but I just won $260 in a bowl pick 'em pool and given that I have a whole book case full of Napoleonic books as its a major hobby of mine, I know I'll get hundreds of hours out of this game.
I'm building a kick *** Gaming rig JUST for this game and the other Total War games.

I'm excited to see how multi-player is going to work (it better be damn good since its the reason for the past two delays). It would be fun to play some Grand Campaigns with a few of us on here.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

I'm also getting a brand new PC. I'll be graduating and getting a job in June and my current computer is 5 years old, I can't wait to build an awesome new one to play Empire: TW on.
Also, I would love to see a 19th century game, since I love the American Civil War, and there hasn't been a good Civil War game since the CW: Generals series and Sid Meier's games in the mid-90s.?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

Anyway, what system are you building? I am not doing this from scratch, I am buying the system from Ebay and then have my friend do some work on that.
I spoke to the Tech Moderator over at Creative Assembly's sight and he said that with the following system, I should be able to run everything on high or very close:
Intel Core Duo E840 3.0Ghz
4GB Memory
Geoforce 9800 Series Video card
I can get this put together on Ebay for about $600 monitor not included, but I don't need that.
I would imagine for a Grrrr, you could assemble something that could run everything on maximum settings. I'm waiting right up until the last moment to buy it though as 6 to 8 weeks can have a significant impact on pricing in the pc market.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Any idea what it will take to run this game on high settings? It's been about 3 years since my last PC upgrade so I'm due. My current rig is:
- AMD Athlon 64 3700 2.2ghz
- Asus A8N-E Mobo
- Geforce 7900GT
- 2 GB RAM
- Chameleon 550W PS
I haven't been very happy with the Nvidia Video card mainly because it struggle with Oblivion. If I run at anything over 1024x768 the screen just goes black randomly. Frustrating as hell since it should be more than powerful enough to run it.Comment
