I gotta quit looking at pictures like this or I'm going to buy this game and a rig day one. I'll have to wat until at least April 1st to decide because the first 3 weeks everyone will be saying how "sick" every feature is without exposing the downside.

LOL. I'm dying here and wanting to completely bypass February. I haven't been this anxious for a game in a long time. Can your current machine run ETW on low settings?

I wish I knew more about the tactics and units of this time period. Medieval was simple down and dirty fighting..
This time frame I have no idea..Do you just line up all of your gunners into rows of two and fire until the other side is dead or routs? I'm trying to picture the wild mess of units chasing other units but with guns lol.

This time frame I have no idea..Do you just line up all of your gunners into rows of two and fire until the other side is dead or routs? I'm trying to picture the wild mess of units chasing other units but with guns lol.

No, you might do that if you only had a couple of regiments, the goal is really to break the lines. You will march right up to them within 50 yards or so and hope you get the first shot off or they fire too soon as it takes a while to reload. But you basically want to divide and flank.

Same principles of calvary apply, but instead of facing defenseless archers, you are fighting muskateers who have the ability to fend off calvary in squares. Thats where you throw in the artillery to destroy the squares. And use infantry to keep the enemy in line or column position as well. The infantry is cannon fodder and they know it. Move forward and get it over with.

And contrary to belief, Melee battles weren't that common. The bayonets kept each side honest, but most likely one side would break and flee. It generally wasn't customary to chase them down and stab stragglers in the back.

One book I picked up to get into this era was Cochrane "The real Master and Commander" by David cordingly, I think the ship aspect of this game will own my soul. Boarding and taking ship's into your fleet is gonna be so badass. I have a large library of books at home, but I can't remember the exact names. I got them most @ Amazon. The 2 that stand out is one about Napoleonic tactics and the other is weapons and uniforms of the napoleonic wars. Both have many illustrations which is key. When will the gold version of this game come out?

I am thinking I might wait because the computer I need to run this will probably be a few hundred less by then. That and I'm sure that version will have all the special units available.

Unless the reviews are so overwhelmingly great, I think I can show a little restraint.

If they follow a cycle anything like Rome and M2, then you're going to have to show a lot of constraint. The Gold versions usually include the original game, plus the expansion and release about 14-18 months after the original is released.
