did the demo take forever to load for anyone else? or was it just because i had everything on highest possible setting?

anyway, after the extremely long load times, the game was great. graphics are unbelievable for a game like this with no frame rate issues or anything. can't wait to get the game and see what the modding community can do with this game.

Yeah, the load times are BRUTAL. I checked online and its that way for everyone, so I'm assuming its just a demo issue.

mgoblue, agree about the naval battles. I lost my first and finally won one last night. They feel like a cluster F to me when you're trying to control 6 ships (I can't imagine 20). I need to read up on Naval warfare cause I have no idea of strategies and it just turns into a free for all.

Yeah, the loading was kinda brutal for me too, but I'm happy it runs it pretty well at whatever default (medium) is, so my laptop will be sufficient.

I'm about to try the regular battles more, those are always fun!

Is there a trick to make sure the units use volley. A lot of times I only see 5 - 6 out of 80 troops firing their weapon at the target I designate.

Are the enemy inside of the little radar graphic that symbolizes your soldier's range? If the enemy isn't w/in range only a couple guys will shoot at them. If that's not it I'm not sure. On other sites I've seen people complain about glitches that others aren't encountering. Hopefully its just a demo problem.

I'm having problems turning off fire at will and having my guys listen. Half the time they'll wait for my fire command and other times they still fire at will.

According to one of the CA guys on their forum, volley fire can best be performed manually. Otherwise they will fire at will.

There will be technological advances in the real game that will help unit cohesion and have guys fire by rank(1st line, 2nd line, etc.)

...Going back to playing the demo now....

Having fun with the demo... just trying different strategies, some good, some bad. Got everything on ultra, but turned the grass off. Anyone else think the grass looked crazy?

Wish I knew. I am playing with a system that doesn't even meet the minimum specs, but can play with unit size large, unit graphics high and building graphics high, aa X4 with no lag. Everything else on low. Looks like a PS2/360 Hybred, but it works.

Just finished the best battle yet. Moved my entire army to the left. This is the best way to get a set piece battle. I found some minutemen hiding in the woods, they felt the steel of my 2 divisions of Hussars. They didn't know what hit them. Once they were cleared, I formed lines layed some steaks with my light infantry and put sqares up on the hills on eaither sides of my lines to fight off any calvary charges.

I rolled up there left side of the line with a hussar charge again. It played out beautifully. 1st battle I won and I won big. But thats what I'd expect when I line up experienceed regulars, highlanders and hessians against militia for the most part. 800 kills to 300 or there abouts.

I'm just stoked that I can play this on my Athlon. I'll have an i7 with 24" monitor sometime this year if this game is as good as I think it will be.

That's what I don't get. I shouldn't be able to play this game on high graphics with large unit sizes on a 24" monitor with the system I have. I figured I'd only be able to play on medium settings.

The grass does look funny. I'll try it w/o it and see if I can bump up some other settings.

This game is going to own me. The demo already does.

This is a major improvement over MTWII. The enemy AI is much improved. Moving in formation is also much better. Garrisoning buildings and/or demolishing them with your cannons is awesome.

The maps are so much bigger and vast giving us armchair generals many more tactical options and more room for error.

The naval battles are fantastic save for the fact that I suck and it. My ship of the line always ends up surrounded. And, being the French, my other boats surrender rather quickly(I am pretty sure this is a nation trait in the game) .I love holding the broadside volley until the enemy ship comes to pass and unleashing hell into the hull.

I found the grass to be rather obscene. Its too distracting. For those that need to know if their rig can handle this I am running it on my laptop, all on ultra except for grass which is off at 1280*800 8x AA:

2.6 Ghz E8400
9600 GT
4 GB RAM
xp 64bit

Load times are long, but I believe its just the nature of the demo.

In the full version will there be a way to replay the battles we fight in the campaign?

Is there any way to replay this battle in the demo?

I'm so stoked for the time period, last night I watched The Duelist and today (much to my wife's chagrin) I'll probably watch Barry Lyndon.

Any other good flicks about that approximate era?

Funny thing from the demo: I had a battle at the second crossing between my light infantry backed by hussars and the American long rifles. The long rifles actually brought the battle out to the creek where they were promptly slaughtered... but what was funny was there was about five or six long rifles flailing about in the water! Poor fellows looked like they were drowning (in like 3 or 4ft of water!) Of course my fellows marched right by them not noticing!

Hey guys, can't get an answer to this on the CA board.

I'm new to the TW series.

Can you view a replay of the Demo Battle?

In the TW series can you replay battles you fought during campaign? There is so much chao going on that I would love to replay the battle and watch some things upclose otherwise I really don't see the real emphasis on graphics because I play with it zoomed out alot so I can react to the action.

If I could watch some of those skirmishes up close after the battle it would rally be sweet but I'm too busy during the game trying to maneuver that I really can't enjoy viewing the epicness of the battle.

The demo I'm not to sure about...But in M2TW and Rome you could save and watch all of your battles. Online and offline.

What he said. Don't be afraid to use the pause option. You can give commands while the game is paused.

There's also a slow motion option, which is new for the TW series.

One other new thing is the first person view by pressing 'Insert'. Try it with some of the battleships when you're about to fire upon another ship.

Anybody else encounter the opposing General charge all by himself head-on into your line? WTF?!?! That made for a quick battle.

And one more thing, the game looks and plays much better w/o the grass.
