How are they behaving when you turn off auto-fire? Mine will hold their fire until I right click on a target, then everyone will fire. However, after that its back to a free for all. I'm having to hit the stop command after each volley so they wait for my command before firing again. Anyone else having to do the same thing?

Earlier today, I lined up all of my hessian and linemen units slightly uphill from the hidden long riflemen along the creek (who crossed the creek to intercept me). I had all 5 units fire simultaneously. In one volley their numbers went from 80 to 21 and they routed immediately. So damn cool. This game is going to be so much more fun than Rome and Medieval.

Ill note that in the full game you will be able to research more efficient firing tactics such as platoon firing, etc. My only guess is that these units have not been trained as such and their synchronized firing methods kinda suck. I am under the impression that when units are trained they will act accordingly without you having to micromanage so much .

Am I the only one here who sometimes will just simulate all battles?

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best at the old school battle strategies, and when I'm going through a long campaign I'm better off simming because otherwise I lose way too many guys. I turn a "Complete Rout" to "Close Victory" lol.

I still like the battles, but I also really get into the world domination aspect, trying to get my empire as strong as possible. I think I like all that more than just battles, by far.

I really enjoy the diplomatic part of the game as well. I will fight any battle where the outcome is questionable, but if its going to be a squash I'll sim it. I'm getting a lot better at the naval battles and they're a blast, but if they're all open water battles I can see myself losing interest.

The diplomacy aspect looks so much better than any of the previous TW games. Religion, ethnicity, and power are all going to come into play in regards to relationships with other factions and with civilians. And the AI nations will actually come to you needing an ally and will help you out when you've been attacked.

How cool is this screen?

Played the demo some more last night. trying to get the best visual settings that I can. It looks pretty good, but man, I envy you guys that can play this on ultra.

Anyway, its a pretty easy win if you go left. But I was trying full frontal assault on the river on the right. I lost both times I tried that. Those American 24lbs are deadly. They take out alot of troops before I even reach the creek.

I love the Rifle unit of the british. There are some bushes on the right side of the creek. You can put them in there and they wreak havoc on the American Big guns.

I have just got to say that I find it amazing that this game will only cost $50. Think of all the garbage games out there and something like this costs $50. Some of those other gaming companies should be ahamed of themselves.

In fact, I'm going on record right now that except for Fight Night, I won't be buying another game this year.

Strange as it sounds Empire Total War is actually going to save me money.

I downloaded the demo and have been playing it for awhile. I'm pleased as punch that I am able to run it at 1900x1200 with everything set to Ultra and all the fancy effects checked. That new GTX260 is just destroying my recent PC games in the graphics department, i'm really loving it!

The game is bad@ss, can't wait for the full version. Although I will say i've had some difficulty getting my guys on land to face the correct direction and get into a sensible formation. Can anyone offer any insight as to how to get them to change formations (ie as in Gladiator in that scene where he had them change to single line, assume a v-formation, diamond formation, etc)???

Highlight the units you want to align, press shift + right click and drag.

They can only change to formations that are specific for the unit...ie only the cavalry can go to a diamond, others can go to a square.

This is a nice new feature though on the bar at the bottom that when a unit is selected with turn them different directions or add/reduce ranks.

I've never played any of the total war games. But I love american history, and history in general. I also now have a good gaming PC, so I'll probably pick this up. Looks interesting.

Sucks, I'm going to be out of town on business Tues.-Thurs. Won't get to play till FRIDAY... that's going to be pure torture! Told my old lady to go pick it up Wed. though, so it will be sitting at the house waiting for me.

I think Gamestop's supposed to send the Rome codes in an e-mail today (at least that's what the website says)...I never played that (only played Medieval games), so that'll be cool to play before this (and MLB 09) drops.

Looks like Creative Assembly has delivered the good again (was there ever any doubt). Hopefully the pieces of my new pc arrive before Tuesday.

I also can't wait to see what the mod community can do with the game. Gotta love PC gaming.
