Well I registered my game ok on Steam but for the last 20 minutes it just says DOWNLOAD STARTING... Is this normal in regards to the wait time I've been reading about in this thread? I was reading it thinking the download would start but be slow.

Alright cool, that's all i needed to hear, I think i'm just going to watch some tv tonight for an hour or so and head to bed, then play this tonight when I get off of work. Hopefully the darned thing is done by then

Downloaded through Steam at 3:30 am PST (alarm clock woke me up) and it was 100% downloaded by 6:00 am when I got up for work. Fired it up for 15 mins this morning and everything was fine. Little slow on the map scroll, but tweaked everything off high settings and that fixed the issue. Bout to fire it up now for a long haul this evening.

I would say upgrade your video card to be completely happy. I an a nvidia guy so I would recommend a GeForce 9800 GT and up. I can get away with a 9600 GT on high settings so that may even work for you.

Do you have vista or XP? If vista, add 1 more GB of RAM at least, up to 4GB.

Could I just mess with the game settings to have it run smoother with my setup. I don't game alot on my pc but do have a few games. I also have Vista on my computer. Thanks.

Mine installed and everything from the dvds pretty fast...maybe 45 mins or so max.

Runs at low settings on default for my laptop, handles all those fine, so I may tinker with it over time. I'm just glad it runs battles and campaign good enough.

I'm done with Ep 1 of the Americas campaign, learning but fun. I've gotta learn all the new stuff, so worth going through the tutorial campaign.

Picked up the game.....The Special forces edition. Now, I am just biding my time until they get some questions answered over on the CA forum.

Funny story about gamestop....well not really funny, kind of sad.

I saw that they were offering an additional 40% off trade in games if you returned 6.

Well, let me qualify this by I picked up a majority of these games used on ebay for under $10, some for less than $5 as I was the only bidder......

But my NBA 2k7 with the 40% premium went for..........70..........thats right, 70 cents!

But I only had 6 games with me so I needed to turn it in for the "extra bonus". A couple games, I actually made money on.

But, Talk about depreciation.

Anyway, I am sure I'll be playing this game soon, but I want to make sure that I have everything in order before I lay down that cash on the new system.

I'm definitely going to pick up a nice 23 or 24 ince 1080p monitor with Speakers & HDMI. I'm setting up my man cave so I can game and watch my 51" TV at the same time. Love having sports going on in the background while I game.

Anyone else not able to get the game to keep the flags off during battle? I have it set to Mouse Over only but everytime I reload my game, even though the settings have it as Mouse Over only I still have to change it to show flags, then change it to mouse over to get them to actually go away.

Weird.

Yeah dude. You should be OK on med - low settings depending on your screen resolution. I cant say for sure though. It will def play on your pc though.

I have an LG lcd monitor 1440 by 900 pixels high setting, colors highest(32 bit)

I never trade in to Gamestop, it's a ripoff even with more % offered. I always use Craigslist and sell for like 3 times more than what Gamestop will give me.

I got this yesterday. Stupid gamestop website kept saying there were 0 copies within 100 miles... except for the 20+ copies about half a mile away that they had for a couple day. Anyways:

Installation went fast. I have a pretty good cpu, was done within 20 minutes.

Graphic options all on high, but shadows pretty much turned off. Runs very smoothly (though I have a beast of a graphic card).

Road to Independence: a bit slow for a TW veteran. There is a lot new in this version, but I wish it was introduced faster. I started a grand campaign and was taken aback at how much detail, so I went back to Road to Independence. The French are extremely passive in the French and Indian War, so that is a little frustrating, though they showed some fire over Quebec.

AI is a mixed bag. I have seen the AI come up with some amazing strategies, and I have seen it utterly fail. Basically, the AI failed to recognize the fact I put my troops on a cliff with only one way up. Thus they tried to run full speed the entire battle, and were exhausted as musket fire destroyed them. It is too bad the enemy commander could not just flee when he realized the attack would be futile. Other times I have been outflanked brilliantly. I am not a big fan of the pathfinding though in both land and sea, sea particularly.

Sea battles are pretty and fun, however I don't know how to manage more than 3 ships at once. A lot of odd angles get taken. I don't think there is anything so satisfying though as making the other ship just explode when you hit their ammo. Take that Frenchie!

Overall, yes I guess I focused on the negatives, but don't let that stop you. The game is amazing and one of the most beautiful games I have ever played, and it has amazing depth. There is a lot of new stuff for a TW veteran. This is not just Medieval TW II: Now Everybody has Guns. I can't wait until I get to play it later. I have almost finished the French and Indian War.

I am bitter. I went out a picked the game up yesterday, it installed fine but everytime I try to play it the screen goes white and I get the "Empire.exe has encountered an error and needs to close" prompt. I dont know if my computer cant handle the game or what.
