naval battles are a nice addition but i cant see myself playing the battles all the time...its just too slow paced for me...

I just squashed the French out of North America (Road to Independence)

Now its time to destroy those pesky Brits...Even if it means I have to ask Louis for help :wink:

I fought a battle for Quebec in Chapter 2 and it was pretty gruesome. The town was atop a steep hill and I rushed all of my infantry units up it with cavalry leading the way. Running up hills = sloooooow. Lost some forces but took the enemy down easily enough.

Plan on ploughing through Ch. 3 and getting to the Grand Campaign very soon.

Since I pre-ordered this game through gamestop i got Rome for free. So I go to gamestop.com to download it, I scratch off the DL Code and to my amazement there is no code there. How awesome is that...

Started a British Grand Campaign. My researcher died on the fourth turn, and I didn't get another for 5 years... and he was in that region of canada that is as far away as possible, he shortly thereafter died. I am so behind in technology it isn't even funny.

I went to war with France and Spain, am doing very well in France (though their ability to sally with full stacks of mobs every turn basically stops me from taking Paris, though I am not particularly upset about it). Spain destroyed my navy in the New World, through some complete bs I might add. I had a fairly even naval battle in hand very early, I was just mopping them up. Then as I am boarding one of their ships... it explodes, taking out mine as well. Next thing I know, the AI rams my admiral's flagship, tying him up and preventing the ship from moving or firing. The rest of my ships displayed an utter AI pathfinding failure, and all ran into eachother, becoming immobile. The Spanish then mopped me up. I couldn't tell if them ramming me was a strategy or just poor pathfinding (which I find VERY bad in naval battles). I still love the game, but the naval pathfinding needs some help, big time. The enemy ships in close quarters just try to ram you.

Note, I am on campaign difficulty hard and battle difficulty expert. The land AI is much better, I have seen some clever strategies now, although I do think they are aided by some statistical bonuses. My advice is to save before every naval battle in case something happens to you like a pathfinding failure and you lose your entire navy because of it.

I'm also doing the British campaign. Just got a foothold in India, and started landing in Georgia in the new world. Gonna play some serious time tonight.

are you able to view replays of all of your battles and zoom in on different areas of action? If So, do you have to do anything prior to the battle?

The demo won't run on my computer.

Lags all up on intro screens, takes forever to load. Shame too because I really wanted to enjoy this game.

THe load times have improved in the regular games. If you can run the battles you should be good.

Me too. I set-up foreign trade routes early to get the money flowing and then just really hammered the income techs. Built a huge treasury and managed to forge alliances or trade agreements (some w/ giving cash/gifts) that allowed me to remain neutral as war broke out in Eastern Europe. I have a huge buffer between hostile/at war countries (Prussia, Poland) while they have engaged in a massacre of Austria. I'm sitting w/ only Spain, Italy and the Eastern Euro's as At War or Hostile and sandwiched between my alliance w/ Russia who currently has 1 ally - me.

By complete dumb luck I've been able to stay out of Spain's way and avoid conflict over the first 40 years and managed to eliminate the French from Europe (they were at war w/ the entire continent and I managed to grab France) by 1725 which collapsed all their territories in the New World. Quebec swooped in and cleaned up the leftovers, with me snagging the Great Lakes and then pushing back the Huron's who declared war on me. I'm currently moving through the Iroquois who are troubling the Colonies and should have the Great Lakes fully in about 8 turns.

My Europe situation being stable, I just landed two huge armies (I have an enormous war chest pouring in each turn from farm, mining, and port upgrades) on the African Coast and will begin slowly clearing out the Penninsula starting w/ the Barbary States. I plan to leave the New World alone until about 1770, and focus on moving through the Ottoman Empire from a base of Africa - starting with Egypt and wrapping around.

I'm going to leave central/Eastern Europe to their own battles, but have two large armies (and a formidable Navy) in France should Spain get feisty or one of the buffer regions of Saxony, Bavaria, Westphalia etc fall after Austria is wiped off the stage.

This game is fantastic.

Just got around to finishing the RTI Campaign. Just started a Long Campaign with Russia on Hard. Already getting into it with the Ottoman Empire and Sweden (just took St. Petersburg).

Like most TW games it has a lot of bugs/glitches out of the box. God help us if this was an EA game on this board!

Lots of promise though. With some patches and mods in the next few months it will be another classic. It took over a year for MTW 2 to get as good as it is now.

Lots of promise though. With some patches and mods in the next few months it will be another classic. It took over a year for MTW 2 to get as good as it is now.

The TW series also has a very good following with some great Mods available. I was still playing Rome Total War due to mods, some of which are extremely well done. I have no doubt that at the very least, eventually some guys will come up with several fixes.

There is actually a patch due this week from CA. Your game should be updated automatically through steam when it comes out.
