I got this game for Christmas and I must say I'm having a blast

I'm a little past the mission where you explore the collector ship (I really wanna kill the Illusive man). If I just keep ploughing through only the main story (which I don't do) how long will it take to finish the game?
Also, just so I know, if you die at all through actually doing the suicide mission, is that why you die? Or is it through a badass cutscene?

Click "edit", then click "go advance"... then highlight that last paragraph and click the "S" at the top right of your toolbar screen.

Off topic:

I watched Firefly and Serenity over the holidays and noticed a lot of things on the show that seemed familiar to things in Mass Effect. One of the things that especially stood out to me were the space suits they used, in particular the helmets. Also, in the final episode the bounty hunter had a body armor suit that looks to be borrowed heavily from in the Mass Effect series. It's not exact, but it looks like some of the attire in ME is heavily influenced by it, it's the lines I think.

Off topic:

Battlestar Gallactica anyone? I know i'm a geek but if you ever watched that show it reminded me so much of ME and ME2. Plus the whole Quarian/Geth story is pretty much the same as the human/cylon story from battlestar

I destroyed it because I figured The Illusive Man was going to use it to his advantage. In a way I regret it because I get the feeling keeping that technology is going to be huge, but at the same time I sat there for a good 5 minutes debating my decision so I just have to go with what I decided on.

I destroyed the base in my paragon playthrough, based on the logic that a paragon would probably rather remove any possible threat from either cerberus or anybody else; saved the base in my renegade playthrough, based on the logic that a renegade would probably be concerned about their personal survival regardless of how it would affect anybody else

I saved it with my first Shepard because there was too much useful technology to destroy. With my second Shepard I blew it up just to see what happens with that choice in Mass Effect 3 and I saved it with my third Shepard.

I have only done a paragon playthrough, but I did same thing as you. I did agonize over the decision though.

I've done one playthrough, and I did the exact same thing. I can see the logic in that the fight could help against the collectors, but I feel that if The Illusive Man gets his hands on that tech, it is creating another threat.

And yeah, I stayed at that screen for a good few minutes.

Yup, I destroyed it as well (Paragon character). To be honest, even though my character is full Paragon, it was less about "doing the right thing" as it was a way to stick it to the Illusive Man for all his crap...lol.

It was a tough choice for me though. On the one hand, I'm keeping my guy a Paragon, so that was the way to go, but on the other, I like to salvage as much as possible because I like to see how it might crop up in the next game. I'm going to salvage it in a separate save to cover myself though.

I'm the same way and followed a similar pattern in ME1, I play through as a paragon and a renegade and make opposite decisions so I have both angles covered.

I blew it up in my first playthrough, just to mainly piss off the Illusive Man and see what happens in the 3rd one with him angry at Shepard. My 2nd playthrough I saved it just to see what would happen in the next one, though I don't like that most of my crew hates me now.

Mass Effect 2 DLC free on PSN until Feb. 23

Two pieces of downloadable content for BioWare's upcoming Mass Effect 2 will be offered for free on the PlayStation Network, EA confirmed in a tweet.

Previously pre-order bonuses for those who ordered the Xbox 360 or PC versions of Mass Effect 2 at GameStop, the Terminus Armor and Blackstorm Heavy Weapon will be available for download on the PlayStation Store until the content expires on February 23 (or, perhaps they'll simply start charging a nominal fee for it). Either way, Mass Effect 2 is a phenomenal game, so you should snag the content at the oh-so-affordable price-tag of $0 in case you ever decide to pick it up.

Mass Effect 2 is flying out to store shelves on Tuesday, January 18.
