    Re: The Sims 3

I'm picking up my copy in a little over an hour. I can't wait.

I played the hell out of Sims 1. Sims 2 had a lot of promise, but the more expansions they came out with the less I played, because every expansion made the loading times slower and slower. Plus I never liked the fact that the passage of time wasn't saved between lots, so you had to be really careful when and where you took your sims and for how long they were there.

Sims 3 seems to have fixed most of my complaints from the previous games. One that's as big for me as the seamless living town is the new way things can be placed in your house. I have slight OCD and things being asymmetric really bugs me, and that includes in video games. So the fact that things can be placed diagonally and in half-tile increments instead of only in full-tile increments is HUGE for me.

I'm also really looking forward to the style editor thing. Not being locked into only a few (often terrible) colour choices on items will be great.

I'll pop back in with some impressions this afternoon after I've had some time to dig into it.

      Re: The Sims 3

I'll be picking it up today. Through an old PR contact at EA, I was sent a limited beta build of the game that I've been messing around with the last two weeks. If you like Sims 1 and 2, you'll LOVE 3. The seamless travel between areas of your town is pretty darn cool. I can't wait to see what the other town in the game is like. This beta just has one.

TONS more options to create your Sim, too. I'm hoping the final build has better goatee's though. I couldn't quite get my guy to look like me because the goatee's they had there sucked, lol.

I played the 1st one religiously, but didn't play 2 so I am on the fence right now...I'll wait for some impressions, but I must say that I've been impressed with what I've seen so far

I like The Sims but I'm thinking of passing this simply because most of the things in TS2'a expansion pack are available for download on "The Sims Store" for TS3. IMO thats stuff should have been included int he game not for $20 on top of the purchase.

I'm kinda concerned that the game isn't a huge upgrade from the older sims. Are the graphics and gameplay much better?

i can't wait to get some feedback and reviews. The thing I am most excited for is the Sims being more independent and not having to go to the bathroom so much and things like that because i seem to forget.

The graphics were only mildly upgraded. Softer edges, outdoor stuff looks a little better, and the Sim faces look better.

As for gameplay... it's WAY different, and better. Even though Sims 3 is using a lot of the ideas that came about with Sims 2, the implementation of those ideas and the differences between the core gameplay is pretty much as big of a jump as 2 was from the original.

I'm enjoying it a lot already. I was completely burned out on Sims 2 and uninstalled it months ago, but Sims 3 has me hooked already.

                  nice. How are loading times?

Also is the sims clock slowed down? What I mean is, does it take a chunk of time to go to the bathroom and make your bed or is the time more realistic?

                    Re: The Sims 3

Guys quick pc question. I just did a test to see if my comp can run the Sims 3 and it saidthe processing speed was too slow for my comp. The sims demands 2.4 ghz and my comp is only 2.0. My question is, what will happen if I try to run the game on my computer? Will it chug and freeze, will it not run at all, or will it not be noticeable and thus a minor thing. Thanks.

Loading times? What loading times? Once you load up your game (which takes roughly the same amount of time as Sims 2 did before all of the expansions) there are no loading times.

It still takes a slightly unrealistic amount of time to do things like use the toilet, but on the good side they've drastically reduced the amount that you need to use the rest room or shower. One shower and one or two bathroom trips per day is all you need now.

You might lag a little bit. Nothing big.

I remember in a video interview they were working on trying to make it work well with older computers without lag, but I really am not sure
