I'm picking up my copy in a little over an hour. I can't wait.
I played the hell out of Sims 1. Sims 2 had a lot of promise, but the more expansions they came out with the less I played, because every expansion made the loading times slower and slower. Plus I never liked the fact that the passage of time wasn't saved between lots, so you had to be really careful when and where you took your sims and for how long they were there.
Sims 3 seems to have fixed most of my complaints from the previous games. One that's as big for me as the seamless living town is the new way things can be placed in your house. I have slight OCD and things being asymmetric really bugs me, and that includes in video games. So the fact that things can be placed diagonally and in half-tile increments instead of only in full-tile increments is HUGE for me.
I'm also really looking forward to the style editor thing. Not being locked into only a few (often terrible) colour choices on items will be great.
I'll pop back in with some impressions this afternoon after I've had some time to dig into it.
