    Re: The Sims 3

My other half wants to play this but according to the System Requirements Lab she doesnt have a fast enough processor even though she has a 1.50 GHz duo processor so Im not sure if its accurate or not. She was able to play the Sims 2 without much of a problem other then some sluggish moments since she had some of the expansions on it as well. Does anyone think the processor speed I mentioned would be good enought o run the game or not? This is a laptop so that could factor into the answer given but we dont even own a desktop so this is her only option.

      Re: The Sims 3

I have no problem running the game, and my pc more than meets the requirements, but I have one problem. The clock speed in the game seems to stay largely the same. So even if I put it on "three arrows" to speed up time, the clock barely gets faster. Anyone else having this issue? It's annoying, because I want to zoom through my sim's sleep, and even "hyperspeed through the current activity" takes way too long.

I hate to quote myself but considering Im about to head out I was hoping someone on here could give some feedback about my question. Im not the most familiar with PC games, specs and whatnot as I only game on a console so if anyone can shed some light on my situation it would be greatly appreciated.

          Re: The Sims 3

Well to follow up in case it might help anyone in a similar situation as myself. I deleted all the old Sims 2 files, restarted our laptop and installed Sims 3 and ran it and outside of having to run it at the lower graphic settings there were no hiccups when I was messing around in the house but we havent ventured anywhere where there should be more characters on the screen at the same time, which could slow things down I would imagine, so when that happens I can report back. In terms of requirements I was atleast at the minimum or above in everything other then processor speed as I have a duo-core processor running at 1.50 GHz where as the game says it should be 1.80 GHz so Im not way off from the requirements but I was lower in this part.

My wife's and my computers are both above the processor mark, so I didn't want to offer you false hope that I couldn't back up, but now that you've discovered on your own that you can run it, I will say that Sims 3 is running better on higher settings than Sims 2 did on our machines.

This game is crazy fun. I've lost quite a bit of sleep this week playing it. The best part is the freedom the game offers you.

I love doing crazy stuff like the other night I went into some woman's house at 1am, started a fire in her fireplace, turned on some music and invited her over to sit beside me. This was a complete stranger. She did come over and sit down, but then when I tried to put the moves on her she started yelling at me and made me leave, LOL!

I like just jogging around time at night like a psycho too.

The house building is fun as heck. The old cheat codes still work "motherlode" for 50,000 simoleans so I am building a ton of nice stuff.

Even though the game feels more shallow than TS2 when you first load it up, especially TS2 with the expansions, after playing quite a bit since Tuesday I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of the game. My wife and I are playing side-by-side, and her game is going completely differently than mine, including a lot of events and opportunities that I haven't even heard of yet.

My only two complaints are the lack of hair styles (heh) and some pathing issues. And when those are your only two complaints about a new release you're in good shape.

I can't wait to see what the patches and expansion packs bring to the table.

My other half was playing last night and came up with a question that Im hopeful someone here can answer for her. She tried to go to the grocery store but it wouldnt let her go inside and shop and supposendly she was able to do this in Sims 2, is it not possible in the new one? Thanks in advance guys.

No, you do it from the outside via a radial selection now. They had to scale some things back in order to have the seamless towns. You can still actually go into libraries and things of that nature, but not stores or restaurants. Those are now "rabbit holes".

Thanks bro, its kinda what I figured but having barely touched the game I havent had a chance to mess with it so I wasnt sure if she was doing something wrong or if they just changed how certain things worked.

                        Re: The Sims 3

Hmm..so I've been playing this in marathon-like spurts for the last couple days. The women in my life (gf, sister, mother) all played the sims 2 religously so they were more than prepared for this to drop. I never got into the sims 2 but watching my gf play I decided to give it a try and I've played through 3 generations of sims already..lol.

There are a couple of frustrating things about the game (like when the sims bump into each other, the have to step back and take like 2 minutes to gather themselves before they move again) but overall I am enjoying it.

I made one sim the other day and gave her the Virtuoso trait (good @ music). I made her go to the park everyday and play her guitar for tips and she brought in like two grand a day.

One funny thing I saw was when I was playing. My radio started smoking so I went to fix it and it sort of sparked and blew up in my sim's face so the sim stopped trying to repair it. So I'm like "wth, why'd you stop" and I click repair again. Apparently she stopped for a reason because when she went to try and repair it again she gets electrocuted and shrivels up into the fetal position. The grim reaper shows up and takes her with him to the shadowy depths of hell. I was like damn, my bad.

wow, I did not know you can play guitar at the park and get some money out of it! That is awesome, thanks for sharing that with us.

I'm liking the game. Hopefully custom content, expansions, and patches can add to the game and make it better in the future.

Might wanna call a repairman next time (or level up the handiness skill)

Against my better judgement (at first, anyway), I got this off D2D. I've played all 3 in various locations, but this is the first time I actually "get it". In the past I just didn't have enough time to really do anything outside of going to work and taking care of the needs essentials when required. Now it seems like there is actually time in the day to do extra stuff. It's a lot more fun than the first two games in my opinion.

Is anyone else getting some bad choppiness while traveling by car (probably because house textures are popping in and out)?

If you meet the minimum requirements then I would say you'll be fine. Im running this on a laptop that didnt even meet the minimum requirements for processor speed according to the same website you referenced and Ive been playing for awhile with absolutely zero chugging or any other problems to speak of. Now of course Im playing with all the graphic settings on low but I didnt get the game for some graphical masterpiece but more for the gameplay so this doesnt bother me at all. I would say as long as you meet the requirements then you wont have any problems.
