Lots of good advice in the thread for improving. It's really all just about practice. I remember getting really frustrated with One on GHIII on medium level a long time ago. Now I think I would be pretty pissed if I failed it on expert. It all clicks eventually and your hand just learns the correct placements sooner or later. I can gold star a bunch of stuff, but some of the insanely difficult stuff is really tough for me to 4 star (ie Megadeth).

Yeah, the only thing that kills me to this day are the crazy solos with a lot of hammer-ons. If it weren't for solos I could 5 star everything on expert, no problem.

I'll also add that when you are not familiar with a new song's chart it is usually best to keep your index finger on the red fret button because it is a lot easier to adjust your index finger up a fret on the fly than it is to adjust your pinky finger down a fret on the fly.

Myself, I keep my index on red 90% of the time.
That's funny, man. I'm on green most of the time, and I'll be apt to stretch my pinky to hit something more than move my root finger.

Another tip: For Chords- Take difficult chord sections, stop the track, and just slowly move your hands over the transition. This is good for establishing muscle memory and getting your coordination together.

Usually there is one part of the transition that is especially unfamiliar, and that is causing errors. The other common issue is that speed is causing your brain to get in the way of your coordination. Both problems are solved by isolating the transition, doing it VERY slowly(hold a chord, count to four, move to next chord, count to four, speed up the count when ready, THEN unpause the song)

This is a common myth. You can actually get leaps and bounds better, literally overnight. It's just that it is an extremely boring exercise that most people aren't willing to engage in. If you are willing to go through four to eight hours of personal misery, I could give you an exercise that would increase anyone's skill level by a very wide margin in one 24 hour period.

Some people say "four to eight hours?? man, that's too much for me!" And to that I say "versus MONTHS of banging my head against the wall, trying to get pass something? Hm...four hours vs. four months...."

            Re: The Beatles: Rock Band

Pick a very difficult riff or passage in the song. Go to practice mode and put it on the slowest speed. Cut that time in half, using a metronome. Take the time to memorize the passage, or a selection of the passage, so you can loop it without the game playing.

            go to http://metronomeonline.com

Use that. Now the most important thing is that you maintain the exact rhythm of the passage and NEVER STOP. Loop it for an hour at the slowest speed. Take a fifteen minute break. Come back and start again, except this time, move the metronome up 8 bpm every 15 minutes. At whatever speed you start getting sloppy, go back down 8 clicks and stay there. Practice that speed for the rest of the practice. Let's say the first session you go for three hours.

Take a long break, let your fingers relax, then come back and do it again, adjusting the speeds according to whatever feels right. If you put together four sessions like this, your fingers will put together the muscle memory to knock that passage out. Not only that, but this muscle memory will work for every similar passage. One day of this can double, triple or quadruple your success. One week of it, and you'll move into the top 5% of Rock Band players on that song. Do it any longer than that, and you'll be amazed that you ever thought it was hard in the first place.

            Most important things:

            Go SLOW
Be ACCURATE rhythmically(go as slow as it takes to be able to repeat without mistakes)
NEVER STOP-the repetition is what gives you the superhuman coordination and muscle memory.

I just picked up the George Harrison Gretsch today and while it is easily the sexiest looking plastic guitar I have ever laid eyes on, it is very hard to play considering the size of my hands which are rather large and the bridge placement. I don't know if I am going to keep it or not.

I am not looking to spend another $100 bucks on a guitar (I got the limited edition bundle so I could get McCartney's Hofner bass), that Gretsch is one fine-looking guitar. I prefer it's looks to Lennon's Rickenbacker, personally.

I've got pretty big hands and haven't had problems with it. Though I sit down to play it,that might have an effect.

I didn't buy the bundle and I am regretting it now. I would have loved to have had Paul's bass and Ringo's drums but I already had the RB2 full bundle and all of the instruments that came with it still work perfectly. I just had to have the Gretsch though. As soon as I saw it in person I didn't even bat an eyelash at the $100 price tag either. I'll try and get used to it over the course of the next week or so and if I cannot adjust I'll just return it.

It is REALLY sweet. Heck, I keep it sitting out in a guitar stand because it looks so nice. I have not had a single issue with it either; plays perfectly for me.

I think at some point they will be on sale individually. Harmonix would be foolish not to do so.

I'd be tempted to go home and play, but I don't want to get fired, lol.

You could probably find just the bass by itself on Ebay. Not sure what sort of price it would fetch though. If I had extra money lying around (I don't), I'd get the Gretsch to go along with my Hofner. But I would still probably play the Hofner most of the time. I have always been a huge McCartney fan; his bass work is incredible.

All You Need is Love is the fastest selling RB song.

The combination of an iconic tune representing both a band and an era, sold to support a charity, helped the Beatles' "All You Need is Love' become the fastest-selling downloadable song in Rock Band history, two days after its release.
                              http://kotaku.com/5362933/all-you-ne...ck-band-record

Wonder how well it would've done if it was actually compatible with RB 2. Also wonder how many people bought it thinking it IS compatible with RB 2.
