As far as "modern" Western films are concerned, the Yuma remake is a top 5 film of the last 20 years, easily.
I'm just a fan of the old B & W Westerns. I watch Cheyenne, The Rifleman, Gene Autry, Bat Masterson more than the Modern Day Westerns movies/shows and thats probably why I liked the original 3:10 to Yuma. My wife thinks I'm nuts because the Western Channel and ESPN are my favorite channels

I've never seen a Western Film. I was always told Tombstone was good.

Wait, let me get this straight. You live in Texas and you've never seen a Western? YOU LIVE IN TEXAS AND YOU'VE NEVER SEEN A WESTERN! That's got to violate some sort of Texas law.

All kidding aside, you want to see some good ones, that list that someone posted is a pretty good place to start.

Tombstone is probably the best western film where both Western geeks and non-western fans can enjoy.
Lots of action and terrific dialogue. Val Kilmer steals the show as Doc Holiday.

After that, give Young Guns a rent.

Both those films are more 'action' type Western movies.
Most Westerns follow the same scripts - lead in with action for first 15 minutes, then drawn out dialogue for 70 minutes, then big fight scene at end.
But both Young Guns and Tombstone are great in that it sprinkles in action throughout the movie.

After you've gotten a taste, I demand that you watch Unforgiven. It's arguably the greatest western movie of all time. Heck, even those that don't appreciate the genre love this film. It's a classic.

I figured Young Guns would have been a guilty pleasure movie instead of Quigly.

yep, excellent, realistic westerns, better than many of the others I've heard so far which to me was like combining current pop culture with a Hollywood Western to appeal to a young (uninterested) crowd.
