I watched Shanghai Noon over the weekend. Seemed like a fairly accurate representation of the wild west.

But I'm completely uneducated on American history and the West. Can anybody recommend a good documentary or website or something that might explain what life was truly like in the wild west?

I can't believe you guys haven't mentioned the defacto-film when it comes to portraying the Wild West with 100% accuracy; Blazing Saddles.

You know what I find hilarious?
This game doesn't allow John Marston to partake in the fruits of bordello's but he can shoot innocent bystanders, leave them on traintracks, rob farmers and burn down buildings.

Mrs.Marston - "Have a good time skinning a priest, burning down the school and leaving the local blacksmith in the wilderness to be eaten alive by bears. But don't you dare lay down with a prostitute!"

a little pricey for the DVD set

I checked netflix for streaming stuff and found nothing... as for feature films you can rent... I would say Unforgiven is the most realistic raw view in recent memory but only shows a small snipet
