I just don't see it. BUT, understand I don't care. I don't want Fallout to be a FPS.

            Better 3rd-person camera

            IGN E3 Preview

Every melee weapon comes with at least one special attack, which adds no strategy to the combat, but likely hours more fun to the mix. Would you kindly strike my face with a golf club? How about selecting the "Fore" option in the VATS combat system for added kick. This move can knock enemies to the ground, where you can then follow up with some serious brutality to their kidneys. Put on the spiked gauntlets and you can deliver an uppercut or a low blow. Yes, that's right, a low blow with spike gauntlets--yowch!

Melee combat never looked that hot in Fallout 3 unless you used the unappealing third-person view. Fortunately, Obsidian has fixed the camera so that playing in third-person isn't just possible, it's preferable. The camera is now tight on the hip of the character instead of showing their poorly animated legs. This is a more traditional camera for a third-person action game and it makes a big difference in terms of playability. Obsidian is throwing in tons of wild and crazy looks and outfits that you will want to see in the third-person view.
One of my favorite new weapons is the throwing spear. This rare ranged weapon factors in your strength score, so it's actually a perfect long-range tool for someone who is normally a brawler. Target an enemy's head in VATS and give the spear a toss. With enough strength (and a bit of luck) you can decapitate an enemy and pin their head to a nearby wall.

Another fun weapon is the incendiary grenade. These are like normal grenades but set your enemy ablaze. The fun thing is that they can often knock enemies into the air. So with a fortunate throw, you can blast an enemy up ten or even fifteen feet in a trail of flames. And the best part? You can juggle them in the air with a second grenade explosion. If you can get a couple of grenades to juggle an enemy over the edge of a hillside, you may just have time to switch to your spear and take off their flaming head mid-air.
Obsidian has the benefit of being handed a game engine and game world already crafted by Bethesda. So they can devote some of development time to making all of it a little bit cooler than before. Ultimately, New Vegas feels almost identical to Fallout 3, but in a new location, with new wacky characters in the mix, and a ton of fun new weapons.

            Works for me.

                Fan Interview

Will there be character "traits" as in the classic Fallout games?

JS: Yes. During character creation, you will have the option to select one or two traits. Traits include some of the classics, like Small Frame (in F:NV it gives a bonus to AG but you break limbs more easily), and new ones, like Four Eyes (bonus to PE while wearing glasses, penalty while not).
In Fallout 3, it was easy to max out most, if not all, of your skills. Is anything being done to prevent this?

JS: We have done several things to adjust the skill point economy. First and foremost, the formula for calculating skill points per level has changed. We are still experimenting with what formula to use, but a 10 IN will likely not boost a character's skills as much as it did in F3.

Most of the skill boosting perks have been removed, which means that method of advancing skills no longer exists. Skill books now give +3 skill points, +4 with Comprehension, but there are far fewer skill books in the world. This both reduces how much of a boost skill books will give overall and reduces the impact of Comprehension on that value (don't worry, Comprehension also gives a bonus to skill magazines, so it has more broad applicability). Our "Bobblehead equivalent" does not give SPECIAL or skill bonuses, so those are also removed from the skill point economy.
Will we be able to keep playing once we beat the game with this one?

JS: This is something we really wanted to do, but ultimately we realized that supporting post-endgame content would jeopardize the quality of the ending, which we wanted to tell the definitive stories for all of our major factions, locations and characters. Instead, after the credits roll the game will prompt you to reload a save created just before the endgame sequence, allowing players to go back and complete any quests they may have missed. Additionally, we make it very clear when you're about to reach the end of the main plot, so it shouldn't come across as a surprise.
Will I be able to play, and complete, F:NV without killing anyone or anything, except perhaps in self-defense?

JS: Yes. There are ways to win the main plot by killing no one and by killing everyone. It was one of our initial design tenets. You will find it difficult to get by as a pacifist, and you will miss a great deal of content by killing everyone you meet, but it can be done.

                  Re: Fallout: New Vegas

I just realized that this will be a full game and not DLC, I just started back playing fallout 3 again, hopefully I can beat it and all of the DLC before this comes out. The fallout series is one of the last bastions of deep single player game play.

Maybe we will see some Broken Steel-ish DLC for this as well.

Also, does the phrase "win the main plot" sound funny to anyone else?

I am okay with it not being open ended as long as they give you pleanty of warning and opportunity to finish side quests, etc. before finishing the game (which it sounds like they do). One problem with Fallout 3 is that the ending really sneaked up on you.

Stupid decision to not make it open ended. I think it would be neat to wander around the different settlements, getting new dialogue congratulating or berating your char based on your actions to reach the end. Similar to how the radio show in FO3 progressed as you did certain things. It shows an evolving world imo. Or saving Megaton and having random people run up to you and give you stuff thanking you.

It does leave it open to DLC though. Gotta make that money.

I'd say we have a 100% chance of getting DLC for this game. The new 3rd person camera sounds great can't wait to see it in action.

                            Voice Cast Revealed

But Wayne Newton— "Mr. Las Vegas" — survives as the voice of a DJ programmed centuries earlier.
In the latest title in the hit franchise, players hear from "Mr. New Vegas" as they explore the irradiated Strip. (In Fallout's story line, it's 2280, more than 200 years after a nuclear holocaust.)

Newton joins a marquee cast that includes Matthew Perry (Friends), Zach Levi (Chuck), Kris Kristofferson, Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Felicia Day (The Guild). Ron Perlman (Hellboy) serves as the game's narrator, a role he has played in several Fallout games, including the 1997 original.

The quips delivered by Mr. New Vegas include suggestions to listeners to keep "living the dream." The character, Newton says, "has a perverted sense of humor."
