We've just got our hands on an early copy of Guitar Hero 5 and have discovered that it costs 280 Microsoft Points to import your on-disc music from Guitar Hero World Tour.

This licensing fee is slightly cheaper than the 400MP to transfer songs between Rock Band and its sequel.

Blech.

What is with the 3 note chords? I mean, both those songs are just power chords. Easy, repetitive power chords.
Yet, we need 3 note crap to represent them.

Basically what I was thinking when I watched Smells Like Teen Spirit. I don't get it. That chart doesn't look fun at all, I don't know what Activision aims for when they make these charts like this. The notes during the chorus and the beginning of Kryptonite just look awkward as hell.

Looking at similar complaints in other places apprently the 3 button chords are distorted ones and the 2 button ones are non-distorted.

All the dailymotion vids are gone but the youtube ones are still there.

Also they've apprently claimed there'll be more songs transferable later and you won't have to pay again.

That still doesn't make sense. I like how Rock Band does it (some disagree, but I like it) where they pretty much try and stick to one instrument as much as possible. So if there's a lead guitar and rhythm guitar playing at the same time, they'll probably give you the lead and you'll hear the rhythm in the background. They will sometimes switch back and forth if something is too easy, too repetitive, or one is not playing, but they'll never "combine" instruments.

That's the problem with Guitar Hero in this case, and it's not a good problem to have. It leads to common three-button chords and becomes a mess of a chart.

They actually don't "combne" any of the instruments. You may play rythm in one measure and then lead in another...but they dont mash them up so to speak. Think about it, if they just did one or the other, then there would be sections of the song where you may just sit there looking at the highway.

BTW, it's called note tracking, not charting, but eh, we all know what you mean so no biggie

I can't get this page to load http://hub.guitarhero.com/music-catalog but apprently it lists some GH 2 (MCR & RHCP) and GH 3 DLC (Muse,DKM & Def Leppard) being able to work with GH 5 and Band Hero and the 6 songs that don't work with GH 5 are NOT the Hendrix songs but:

Well what I mean is that maybe there will be a song that starts out with some acoustic chords (two note chords) and then they will add a third note to the chord as if it needs to be different because there is now a second instrument involved.

Or you can look at a song like 3's and 7's and see that they add the bass track for the lead guitar part in some sections when it shouldn't be there.

Basically, whenever I'm hitting notes in Rock Band I sort of just feel like I'm hitting them more, if that makes sense. It may be because they emphasize the instrument you're playing a bit more (if you don't know what I mean watch a YouTube video of the same song played on different instruments), so it gives you a better understanding of what notes you're hitting.

There's now conflicting reports on what's exportable and some say they can't even do it yet.

I'd also like to point out RB 2 has 2 guitar parts charted in Pinball Wizard without a sustain where there should be one so they're not perfect either.

The song import for GH5 is weird, it seems to basically redownload all your DLC in a big chunk and then for the GHWT import it downloads all those songs in a chunk as well. You don't put your GHWT disc in a export like you do on RB.

Fun game though, I really like the extra side challenges on each song to get extra stars. It gives you something else to shoot for other than 5 stars... 8 stars

I also like that you can finally set your own band lineup with either created rockers or the stock GH ones. As soon as I unlock Cobain, he'll be my all time singer LOL

Can I get just the disc and play with my World Tour stuff? I really like the look of the song lists.

Maybe I'll wait for christmas but could be an interesting pickup...
