        Msxbox World review 9/10

Stealth gamers will love what's on offer here as there's plenty of sneaking around to be done. What's ever so neat is the fact that should you make a error, then slipping away, replanning your strategy, and trying again is always something that can be done on the fly - there's much in common with the Metal Gear Solid and the Riddick games here...

Action gamers looking to go gung-ho will be pleased at the tools available and the fact that once you tactically plan your assaults you can kick up a real storm and prove that there's fire in your soul...

The AI is reasonably solid and feels very much like the same sort of routines we've seen in Crytek's Far Cry. Soldiers work in teams, move from cover to cover, investigate sounds, radio communicate, and will call for backup if you're spotted and too slow to bump them off first... It's not all plain sailing though as there are numerous moments of madness whereby the AI will get stuck on the scenery or move into an object and simply stay put - sometimes walking on the spot against an object. It's slightly off-putting and makes for easy kills, but not something you would expect to see often in such a polished game.

Crysis 2 delivers some impressive gameplay moments, offering frantic shoot-outs aplenty against human and non human foes, energetic stealth elements amidst the slower paced sneaking making for a comprehensive melting pot of styles which can be utilized at any time during play... Sure there are some graphical hiccups which tarnish what could have been a perfect game, but on the whole, Crytek have delivered a masterpiece game which will no doubt crown them as console developer gods amongst the eyes of gamers who feel let down by the same regurgitated experiences we've seen for years. In such a crowded genre and one where nothing is ever original, Crysis 2 doesn't reinvent the wheel but does offer a compelling journey that's both stunning to look at but also a marvellous joy to play.

Doesn't this come out today? I'm surprised more people AREN'T interested in this one. Sounds like it has a lot of potential. I might have to check it out. I liked the demo and heard the retail version is a WHOLE lot more polished and better. Single player story sounds intriguing as well.

Re: Crysis 2 coming to consoles

                  IGN: 9.0

The PS3 version of Crysis 2 has particular idiosyncracies. After playing both console versions, and playing through the same set of levels multiple times on both consoles, it became clear to a number of editors at IGN that the PS3 version is lacking somewhat in comparison to the 360 version of the game. The game still looks great on PS3, but the framerate is less consistent, the resolution is lower (in the neighborhood of 10% lower than the Xbox 360 release), and certain graphical effects and some lighting appear dialed back. In layman's terms, there are more jagged edges in the PS3 version of the game, and things get choppy more often than its 360 counterpart, which hurts controller response. The 360 is not immune to this, it just doesn't happen as often.

Despite those complaints, Crysis 2 succeeds. It’s a beautiful, engrossing experience that avoids the anemic, scripted playbook made law by the 500 pound shooter gorilla. It plays well, encourages creative problem-solving, and confidently delivers a series of escalating and changing encounters and scenarios that will push you to think in a way few shooters have in an era of increasingly funneled experiences. While Crysis 2 loses its footing during a few odd moments, Crytek more than delivers on the promise of their previous games.

The lens of truth comparison would disagree with that statement from IGN... coming from them though (IGN), I'm not surprised.

Crysis 2 shines most when you push the Nanosuit to the limits of what you think it can do, and the best moments come from points where you stop and ask "did I really just pull that off?" Crysis 2 is a collection of sandboxes, some enormous in size, all laid out to provide multiple options for tackling your objectives.

GN RATINGS FOR CRYSIS 2 (X360)

                      9.0 Presentation
Crysis 2 folds all of its interface into a slick, elegant in-game solution that draws you further in. The story has holes, but remains interesting throughout.

                      9.5 Graphics
Crysis 2 on Xbox 360 has taken the crown for best graphics in a console game. It's well animated and the effects are great, but light is always the star of the show.

                      9.5 Sound
Fantastic sound effects and positional audio are complimented by one of the best orchestral scores I've ever heard in a game.

                      9.0 Gameplay
Crysis offers a unique play experience that emphasizes clever power usage against smart AI. It plays fantastically well - when it's working.

                      9.5 Lasting Appeal
The campaign may last as long as 11 hours, and features a new game+ hook. With a fully realized multiplayer mode, Crysis 2 could keep your interest for quite a while.

yep, and would be glad to give some impressions. Multiplayer only though, haven't touched the singleplayer yet.

First, the game is a lot more polished than the demo. I am on 360, tried both demos. Hated the first one, like the second better. The retail game has a level of polish neither demo did, as it should. Regardless, it feels nice. My main gripe with the demos was hit detection and it's a lot better in the retail game. Not perfect, but it's not enough of an annoyance to deter me from playing it.

There's I think six different game modes in multiplayer which is nice. Also, each game mode has four specific options. The first is for people rank 10 and below, basically a newbie game. The second is regular, with squads and full ranks and everything. The third is for less time in between rounds. Haven't tried it out yet so I don't know how it works. The fourth is a "solo" type, meaning you can play any mode mercenary style like mercenary TDM in the Call of Duty games. I like that.

There are a lot of similarities here with the Call of Duty series. Controls are similar, ranking and progression is similar, unlocks and rewards are similar. Having said that I don't want people to feel like this is a Call of Duty Future Warfare game. I'm sure some people will treat it like that and then die a lot and wonder WTF they are doing wrong. You can't play this game like Call of Duty and expect the same results. I know there are a lot of similarities there but it is different.

I've only played four rounds of multiplayer so I can give more impressions later.

Also, looking through the achievements there are 12 levels in singleplayer. Assuming each one takes 30 minutes to an hour to complete you could see anywhere from 6-12 hours in singleplayer, for me I'm guessing it'll be closer to 8-9.

Re: Crysis 2 coming to consoles

                          Eurogamer - 8

Story aside, Crysis 2 is a hell of a video game about shooting stuff. It's challenging, facilitates and then demands the use of tactics, and is more generous in scale than almost any other first-person shooter of the past few years. Even on the default difficulty setting, this is a challenging game, and the sparsely spaced checkpoints force careful consideration of every scenario.

The long road through the game, winding its way towards Central Park, lacks variation, but then it was never intended to be a Bond-style rollercoaster ride around diverse global tourist locations. Rather, this was always intended to be a game about a suit, and what that represents. In almost every way that matters then, Crysis 2 is dressed for success.
[Editor's note: Digital Foundry reports that frame rate takes a hit on the console versions of Crysis 2, so PC is the version to go for if you have a capable machine. Look out for a Face-Off soon. However, we reviewed from the 360 version and were plenty impressed regardless.]
                          GamePro - 4.5/5

PROS: Gripping campaign that plays out across 10+ hours; looks incredible in 3D; great balance of sci-fi and real-world; multiplayer is awesome.

CONS: Uninspired alien designs; campaign loses steam midway through; requires too much reloading and weapon-swapping.
                          Gamespot - 8.5

Crysis was a superb game, and it wasn't so just because of the astounding technology that brought it to life. Crysis 2 doesn't make as strong of a mark, but in a sea of me-too shooters, it feels unique and offers an exciting journey that's as much your own making as that of the developer. The wow factor is undercut by a few issues--the bargain-bin AI and some unfortunate bugs among them. But while the lows are inescapable, the highs are intense, and the more you play, the more extraordinary they become. If you give this sequel a little patience, it will bombard you with the thrills you came seeking.
                          G4 - 4/5

In a genre that has become complacent with tunnel-style levels, experiencing the openness of Crysis 2 feels all the more refreshing. Of course you do have specific destinations to reach in each chapter, but how you get there and how many enemies you kill is up to you. While it does not feature the labyrinthine layouts of Wolfenstein and Doom, I can't think of a better shooter out there that captures the exploratory appeal of those games, paying homage to a time when the genre was in its infancy.
                          1UP - A-

And having so many tactical options at your disposal is one of the things that separates Crysis 2 from the many other shooters on the market. Unlike most titles in the genre that funnel you down a rabbit hole of close-quarters, scripted combat experiences, Crysis 2 frames everything in an action movie-style lens while still encouraging you to play the game your own way. Stealthy types can sneak around and create diversions, stalking enemies and luring them into different situations, while more impatient types can run around and tackle obstacles head on. In Crysis 2 enemies are dumped into an urban playground, and pretty much any way you want to engage them is a viable choice.

This illusion doesn't hold up well indoors or in some of the more linear parts of the game, but when Crysis 2 opens up there's this process of discovery that's truly impressive. I played through levels multiple times and still found new pathways and tactical options I hadn't noticed before.
                          Videogamer - 9

Crytek's fourth game is their most confident to date, carefully balancing silliness, seriousness, and spectacle, and despite looking like a laundry list of bad shooter clichés at first glance the end product is surprisingly fresh-faced and triumphant. Switching to New York gives Crytek what it desperately needed: a credible sense of menace to go alongside gorgeous technical fortitude and impressive artistic direction.

During lunch I picked it up at Kmart. Deal there is $10 extra rewards points plus $30 off a $50 PSN or XBLA card.

Bestbuy also has a $10 gift card offer plus $20 off one of 6 select ($60) games.

Looking forward to finally playing Crysis!

Well I'm getting this for the Xbox 360 yay!

When I get this, does anyone want to hop on and play some multiplayer for a few hours before I head off to work?
