ArmA 1 - Who here has it?

    Hey guys.

With the release of ArmA 2. I reinstalled ArmA 1 and man I forgot how much I LOVE this game. I been using my track IR with it. Playing online Coop.

For those who have never used track IR you have no idea what you are missing. People talk about immersion, well Track IR puts you THERE!

Now the purpose of this thread is I would like to do some coop with some guys from OS. Does anyone here have Arma 1. I am going to get Arma 2 in the next couple weeks but ArmA 1 is still amazing and worth having on the PC for ever.

On a side note. Check out this insane moment in ArmA2 this guy had. I would of soiled all over my self lol.

I don't have Arma 1 but am loading the Arma 2 demo right now. Going to see how it runs on my rig before I buy it.

Never played Arma1, but I downloaded the demo a couple of days ago. I haven't really had a chance to try it out yet, though it looks like it might be pretty good. The graphics have looked GREAT in all of the gameplay vids I've checked out so far. I'm just worried my computer won't be up the task of running this game as well as I would like.

I've been thinking of upgrading some things, so that I could run a game like this and be satisfied with the graphics/performance. Though I'm not really sure what it would take to get my computer to that level. It's been years since I've been really into computer gaming.

Here's what I have under the hood. I'd appreciate any advice..

        -AMD Phenom 9150e quad-core @1.8GHz
        -4 gigs of RAM
        -1GB GeForce 9500GT

btw, that track IR looks sweet. If I end up getting this game, I'll definitely have to look into getting one of those.
        Now, more than ever

I may look into getting Arma 1 Phobia. If so, I'll take you up on making a IR track device like yours.

I'll let you know if I end up getting it.

Yea Hoosier you can most likely pick up ArmA 1 for cheap.

Also making the FT device is really easy. You could make one in 45 mins once you have the correct tools and stuff. Could be playing ArmA 1 with complete head tracking on PC in a matter of a hour tops.

Only thing I just ran across is some bad news. ArmA 2 does not support FreeTrack. NaturalPoint and BIS combined and they are standing their ground not allowing support for FreeTrack. This is terrible. This is the customers getting FORCED to buy over priced items by companies. BIS the makers of ArmA 2 should be ashamed of themselves. Trying to force their fans to buy a Natural Point product.

Why pay $150 for a Natural point 5. When you can build a Track IR for $20 and use Free software provided by thoughtful gamers. It is wrong on every level. Using every means possible of further improving their relationship with Natural point by NOT allowing other Headtracking software.

I will stick to ArmA1. There is a petition going around being signed by FreeTrack users that is going to be submitted to BIS to try and get approval of FreeTrack in ARMA 2. I am not holding my breath even though I signed the petition.

Re: ArmA 1 - Who here has it?

              Phobia,

I played the demo all night and was amazed. This is definitely my kind of game - and to think I never even played ARMA 1. The editor itself is worth it. I came up with a really simple and easy scenario that I stole right from Full Metal Jacket with a loan sniper (in this case I made them an extremely skilled Russian man) and I had a group led by me, a Major, and 6 Privates. I had to try and command the group around a field without getting picked off. I spent all of 5 minutes setting it up so I can only imagine what I can come up with when I put some actual time into it.

Also I heard there is a 1944 mod being developed but I need to dig up that link.

Surely someone will come up with a work around to get the IR Tracker working for Arma 2, no?

I hope so. I went on BIS forums. Posted a questions asing "Why are you all closing teh Free Track threads".

THEY BANNED ME!!!! (Well I did have some really bad words to tell them )

These two companies are in cahoots together natural point and BIS and they are being VERY VERY protective of their relationship with natural point. Pretty dumb because BIS gains nothing by not allowing free track users to use their game correctly. While natural point gains everything.

Played Coop Domination last night. Spent two hours trying to secure different towns around the MASSIVE map (225 sq km!) and it was awesome! Easily my favorite game mode in Arma.

Damn dude I was on last night to. Hit me up on meebo when you go to get on next time. Working as a team is soooooo rewarding in this game.

The other night me and this guy teamed up as a sniper pair. One spotter, one shooter. We took a little bird and landed outside a city. After scanning the surroundings I located a T72 coming down the road. We called for Air support. A friendly Co-op member came and gave us support with a A-10 Warthog. Watching him just lay rubble to the city and pillars of smoke starting rising out the inners of the city. I knew he must of nailed that T-72.

So we proceeded into the city for some CQB. Manage to down some infantry but was forced to retreat back to the little bird. When a BMP and platoon of infantry showed up.

                            This game is sooooo intense.
