Note- I am in the UK and I have the non Steam version. I still always have my Steam running though.
I have had to spend some time tonight tinkering with my settings. Getting lower fps in Arma 1 than I do in Arma 2 for some reason.Comment

Re: ArmA 1 - Who here has it?
Did you patch it to the latest 1.14 patch??? Because that patch greatly helped with some stability issues with ATI cardsComment

Re: ArmA 1 - Who here has it?
I turned V-Sync off on my NVidia control panel and that seemed to help. I'm at a stable 30-40 fps with settings on normal/high at max res. Funny that Arma 1 looks better and plays better for me right now than Arma 2 does. Arma 2 is really unstable FPS wise for me and my rig.Comment

Re: ArmA 1 - Who here has it?
Me on a Mission with a group of Mercenaries raiding a enemy compound looking to extract a high profile target. Enemy encampment looks empty, but we got ambushed with them coming out the woods on all sides of us. Our Little bird took RPG fire and went down in the woods. Lost one man to small arms fire and the target managed to escape. Mission Failed.

Mods for everyone that has just got Arma 1 and is looking for the best experience. These are the ones I HIGHLY recommend.
Profile setup
- Adjusting difficulty settings via "...\Profiles\yourprofilename.ArmAProfile":
Open your profile with any text editor ("Notepad" will do) and search for "class Difficulties" - replace them the following settings: If the bottom info is NOT in your profile, just copy and paste this in.

What it does:
This procedure will set the game to higher standards regarding its internal difficulty options:
Rather tough yet clumsy AI in regular mode, quite good (but "fair") AI in Veteran Mode (As long as you make use of SIX's ai tweaks, see 1.1).
3rd person should now be disabled (Good bye, "console pilots") and - most importantly - there will be no more cross hair* (I don't understand why so many players use cross hairs - arguably, it defeats the sheer purpose of OFP/ArmA's style of game play, doesn't it?)
There is no scoreboard in Veteran Mode to encourage squad behaviour but to also prevent players from "peaking" after a kill cannot instantly be confirmed.
These settings are just what we found to be quite playable after several months of coop gaming with friends and acquaintances - it is naturally subjective so go ahead and play with the values as you like, especially "skillEnemy=" and "precisionEnemy="
Installing mods
To install mods is pretty simple. Download the mod, then unzip it (if required). Most mods will start with a @ symbol. Just move the mod folder into you main Arma directory.
Once added to the arma directory. You have to edit your Arma exe. shortcut that is most likely on your desktop (the icon you use to start the game).
Right click the icon, go to properties, then under the TARGET box you must type your mods you wish to use. Like so. You use a ; to separate each mod.
\Armed Assault\arma.exe" -mod=@modname;@modname
Here is a example of how my target looks.
\Armed Assault\arma.exe" -nosplash -mod=DBE1;@armaeffects;@FROMZ;@SIX_Pack2
-nosplash tells the game to start with out the intro screens. DBE1 is a mod that is built into Gold edition and then all the others starting with @ are user made mods.
Recommended Mods
Effects Mod - Essential add on to boost Armed Assault's palette of effects and get a great atmosphere going. Truly helps immersion, good job!

Re: ArmA 1 - Who here has it?
I'm confused, is this game open world? Got the money to pick it up from gamestop, I should have it in a few days.
Is this what I want? http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Prod...oduct_id=65009Last edited by Whitesox; 07-15-2009, 02:22 PM.Comment

Re: ArmA 1 - Who here has it?
Yea, I have ARMA Gold edition. If you like a little realism to your military games you cant go wrong here.
I also have ARMA II. Downloaded a dispersion modification and a clutter modification that helps with the framerate for slower machines (this is for ARMA II).
I dont play online though, I'm strictly scenarios, campaigns, and edited missions that I've created.Comment

No you don't want that one. That is just Arma with out the expansion packs. Arma Gold is what you want and has the expansion packs. It is like the same price as what you are looking at. You can get Arma Gold for 10-20 bucks most places.
More pics for you all.
