Re: ArmA 1 - Who here has it?

I have an Acer laptop with 4 GB ram and Geforce 9600 GT (1 GB). How well do you guys think Arma 1 would run on my machine? Been thinking of getting this one for a while...
I'm more into Call of Duty style - face to face action - than 200-yard shootings, but I guess it can be fun. I'm downloading the demo right now. In case the demo runs well (and I like it), would the full game run just as well?
      My Specs:

      ZX Spectrum
      CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
      GPU: Monochrome display
      RAM: 48 KB
      OS: Sinclair BASIC

Re: ArmA 1 - Who here has it?

Been looking at Arma 1 also but just don't know if I want to go somewhat back into PC gaming...
I used to have a blast with OFP,Papyrus Nascar etc...
With the ease of use on consoles I left that world behind. I just know if I get back into it I'll be pulled in all the way and then I'll have yet another system to support lol.

OK, so I downloaded the demo and tried to play it. But when the game loades there are black&white squares (where the menus are supposed to be) and I couldn't see a thing! Tried to run it again and got the same result. I guess it wasn't meant to be played on laptops or something...

Arma is the best man. No war game is better. Till they get Arma 2 fixed, Arma 1 stands head and shoulders above others.

Humm specs looked good enough to run it. Make sure what operation system the demo says it is far could have something to do with it.

Ok.. I'll download it this evening. Just hope my current PC will run it.
              We'll see....
I did go through this thread and get the mods you suggested as well as the sniper co-op mission.
I'll let you know how it runs...

I haven't looked into that. But I assume it should run on Vista. I mean, demos from 2006 and older ran on my laptop with no problem, so...

You said until they fix ARMA2? Whats wrong with 2? I have 2 and it seems to run fine for me.

Only thing I can think of is A.I., and thats been questionable in all of these type of military games. OFP, ARMA1, 2, etc.

Game certainly brought back fond memories. Unfortunetly I had to play at pretty low settings.
I surpass everything and the only issue is Windows 7 is "not supported"

                          Wonder if that's the reason?

Well first problem is that ARMA 2 does not support Free Track. I use free track in Arma 1 and is that much more immersive in the experience. Ground combat with the ability to move your head around is HUGE!!.

Then is the stability issues and typical 6 months after release for them to get it working on all systems as designed. they have always had a track record of buggy releases and take 3 to 4 patches before working correctly.

I will get it soon, but find Arma 1 has about eveyrthing. Just not the fancier graphics.

I bet that could be the case. I run Vista, Q6600 quad core, with 4 gigs ram and a Geforce 9800GT. I run everything on High.

The main thing I really wish they would get correct in these military sims is the A.I. actually taking cover and using the lean around the corner feature ya know. Firefights would much more intense and drawn out.

I actually observed the A.I. leaning in ARMA2, it surprised the hell outta me. Only thing is, the character wasn't right up against a wall. He was a couple feet back, which kinda made the lean not very effective. Surprised me though, that he even did it at all.

You right creep. Graphics have improved 10 fold but AI has remained very similar to what it was 5 to 10 years ago. They might do a few things better but across a whole it still is to "rigid".

Oh and I just read that Arma 2 now supports Free Track in the 1.05 Patch. So in about a month I am going to scoop it up.

I played Arma 1 a good bit the past 2 days. Hoping to hook up with Sky in the next couple weeks.
