Gears of War 3 to use mo-cap
Twitter, that new bastion of leaked info and surprising reveals has let loose another nugget - this time about Gears of War 3. It seems that Gears of War 3 will be using mo-cap actors, which is the first time the series has actually used mo-cap. That’s refreshing, now gamers will get to see Marcus and Dom have a little bit more range than the tried and true football grunt moves that Gears is famous for. -
Re: Gears of War 3
New scans, though not in English.
"Epic is taking hints from previous Unreal Tournament game. "Those girls (ours) looked like Polish pornstars." (Just translating.) That helped the authors redraw Anya in a shape and form of a girl from Lenningrad's highway. (Russian spot to pick up 'easy' girls)"
The first paragraph is saying that "the 3rd game will end the trilogy (duh) but EPIC is not giving up on the gears series. "Next ten years you'll spend hugging GoW" (as direct as I can). There will be prequels, spinoffs and maybe even a transition to a new genre. Maybe it will be like Greed Corp just with people and Locust. The main thing is that the story of Marcus Fenix is ending and ending just in time before getting boring (that's just mean)."
The last paragraph is recaping all the events of Gears 2 and the little square on bottom left is saying that Lambents are mutated locust that spit acid and explode after dying that's it for that one.
Will try to get the next one up soon.A year and a half later (aha) there is no more COG, no more government, no more organized resistance. (...aha) Leader of the COG disappeared to unknown location (wuss), army fell apart, parts of humanity formed little tribes and now fight for their survival. "We are all stranded now" (needs no translation) - say the heroes of Gears of War 3. Meaning that they are in the same spot that they left some of its territories that COG once left behind. (over run by Locust). Large number of those people died in the Hammer of Dawn offensive (ya'll better know what that is.) The ashy remains of them are shown in the trailer 'Ashes to ashes'. The Locust are now in the similar situation (yeah, keep reading). Left without homes (boohoo), driven off by the Lambent. They like the humans are fighting a war for their survivor (go LOCUST). Even the planet seems to be affected by this. Imulsion, the soul reason the humanity waged war on itself, now seems to be slowly killing off the planet (OMG I F**** KNEW IT!) They need to do something and do it quickly, but who's they? (as in who's supposed to do it.). Everyone lives by the day.
(this part is EPIC WIN) Even in multiplayer the environment constantly shifting (not explained how). The top picture is from the beginning of the match and the bottom one is five minutes later :O
Hope that made sense...moving on."New 'home' of Macurs - aircraft carrier called 'Raven's nest' (somebody call Jonesy! ). Which sales through seas aimlessly, just trying to survive. From time to time Gears have to fight off enemies and protect their tomatoes (sounds funnier in English actually). *********SPOILER ALERT********* The game starts off with Prescott landing on the deck of the Raven's Nest. Marcus give him the EYE! Prescott says that he had a reason to leave (leave run same thing) and presents Marcus with an audio recording from Adam who has a way to save the planet (here we go again). It's easy to figure out the fore-coming events. **************no Spoiler******************
I lost this big chunk, the page refreshed but I was smart enough to Ctrl C before. Basically it talks about Baird and Cole having their own storyline at one point in the campaign. And yes that is Jace, he's in. And the author of the article thought that Anya was a guy from Final Fantasy at first.
"She (scratched out) turned into a...badass (I guess) (normal text) let her hair loose, put on armor, and now fights along side Marcus. Besides her there will be several more female characters thought mostly as...redshirts ( I guess)."
"By the looks of things the main enemy will be Lambent and not Locust...and he goes on describing the Lambent again."
Whoooh alright let's see what's next."The Lambet are able to battle 2-3 Gears at the same time. Once they feel they're close to dying they charge for the nearest Gears to explode next to them. Their tentacles remain active even after the body dies (god knows what that's supposed to mean) Overall (crude translation) mean bastards. We however did NOT get a chance to play the game (EPIC HAS A DEMO!!!!!!!). Epic did not let any journalists near the controllers (good). But based on our knowledge of Halo (huh?) enemies like that are very annoying."
"On the other hand there are new weapons and executions (you like that don't you...sickos! ). The prime example would be a Grenade launcher with ORGANIC earth drilling grenades (Locust presumably). If you need to smoke somebody out cover there is no better option. After firing, the grenade digs into the ground, travels under all the obstacle and explodes where you aimed at. (Like upside down Mortar ). "
"DB shotgun takes long time to reload and can only take up two shells at a time. However it's insanely powerful and both barrels can be fired at the same time (YES, excellent)."
(direct translation) "There is also a rifle that shoots singles, but has very little delay between rounds. It's advantage is that while shooting at the same target every..." (the page ends there)
(the little square) "Cliff Blizinski says hi to all the all the Sci Fi of the past 30 years" (go figure)
(larger square) (talking about Lambet) "Every other Sci Fi game ALWAYS introduces a third front."
Not a word about the spider thingys."Each bullet does more and more damage."
"For some special situations there is now an exo-skeleton called Silver-Back (EPIC MOTHOFING PWNAGE!) which looks like Vital Suit from Lost Planet (RAGE). It's equipped with a machine gun (infinite ammo) and a grenade launcher (this one is NOT infinite, sadly). Well protected from the front but not the back sadly. (begs the question, WHY?) When transferred into stationary mode the suit becomes a turret and drops shields that people can take cover behind."
"Almost every gun has its own unique execution now. Knife-bayonet (Pendulum War Lancer) you can cut the enemies throat (nasty, yes), with shotgun you can break the neck, with mortar you can squash the head, and with the flame thrower you can set people on fire...from the INSIDE."
"If you have a meatshield, you can put it to very good use. A grenade is placed inside the Locust' armor, followed by "this is Sparta" kick (yeah I added that), the grub flies to his comrades and explodes."
"There are three types of grenades. (Bolo/Frag, Ignitable, and Smoke) and they could be combined with one another. For example a Ignitable grenade followed by a Frag will create a fire-y hell in a closed environment."
"You can now swap weapons and ammo (love you muchly EPIC!). No more of "Don't touch my DAMN AMMO!" or "No, you picked up the last time. And give me that Mortar", "What you need Mortar for, you a noob that dies all the time." And of course 4 player co-op."
I got too frustrated with this part so I'll just summarize it:
"Cliff found out that 60 percent of the people stop playing the game without finishing it. (Yeah they're called N00bs). So in order to help them out, there's going to be more story and character development, but also the difficulty will be lower. (a double edged sort as some would say)"
Cliff - "Graphics, oh yes the graphics will be better. take a look we have multilayered shadows (can't think of the proper term). There is now wind and much more particles flying around. But keep in mind that it's hard to squeeze out a lot of performance from the current gen processors. That's the reason for lower frame rate (WTF?). Instead of chasing after 60 fps we decided to make it look better, we think that's a good choice. (let us hope so). Also the levels change in real time...here take a look.." - continued on the next page.
This is in order so far...just one to go.Alright the last page is mainly Cliff talking about changing levels and summarizing the ideas from "Destroyed Beauty" (look it up). The picture with a mech suit has a caption: "Cliff says that to this day he has not played Lost Planet, yeah right." (a bit cruel for my tastes).
and the picture with Dom and Marcus standing by the tomatoes says: "Who would have thought that the epic struggle between Humans and Locust would come to protecting some a garden of tomatoes."
Alright that's it folks...happy to be helpful.Comment

Re: Gears of War 3
Watched the trailer and It looks like It's going to be good. I love the story of GOW and the action packed gameplay.
It's going to be a while before the actual game comes out but, I'll definitely be looking forward to it. Hopefully this one isn't as short as the last GOW.Originally posted by WatsonTigerOne out of 7 billion, and we still tagged your ***.Comment

Cliff:
Gentlemen,
Please do not take that Russian article as gospel. It's a bad translation of a leaked scan and, to be frank, it looks like the writer got a lot of his details mixed up.
The game won't be easier, "casual" will be easier because, quite frankly, the easiest setting should be dead easy. The higher difficulties will most certainly keep you engaged and keep your palms sweaty.
And we go for 30 fps, there's no news there of 60fps all of a sudden or us shipping a game that's 15.
Sadly, tabloid journalism has taken over in many aspects of the gaming industry.
Love,
CliffOh, and I have played Lost Planet. That's another one that that dude just made up. :PGo Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Gears of War 3
Ok, so let me get this straight... despite there essentially being no more organized resistance or military... somehow someone has been able to not only produce but distribute mech suits?
A majority of the game might take place on water?
Limbs that still attack after being removed from the enemy?
I think Cliffy might be becoming his own worst enemy... so far this sounds... weird.Comment

Report: Gears Of War 3 Is Like Waterworld, Minus Kevin Costner
According to translations of a big Gears of War 3 piece in a Russian gaming mag, giving us our first real details on the game, Epic's upcoming shooter will take place on the open sea.
There are plenty more details ahead, but be warned, some of you may consider them to be spoilers, so yeah. You've been warned.
If the translations from Epic's forums are on the money, Gears 3 takes place 18 months after the events of Gears 2. In the months since the flooding of the planet, humanity's government has collapsed, the remnants of the species fleeing to the seas, splitting up into "tribes" and taking care of themselves.
One of these outposts is called "Raven's Nest", a large man-made island built of several warships slung together. Much of the game's action takes place on and beneath this ship/island, with Marcus joined by Dom, Cole, a newly-combative Anya and, DOUBLE SPOILER ALERT, Marcus' father Adam.
Perhaps most interesting, however, is word from Epic that while Gears 3 concludes Marcus Fenix's trilogy, there'll be plenty more Gears games on the horizon, including prequels, spin-offs and "maybe even a transition to a new genre".
Other tidbits: there's confirmation the game has mechs - called "Silverbacks" - and Gears 3's difficulty will also be scaled back, Epic claiming around 60% of players never bothering to finish the last game.
For the full translation, head over to Epic's forums.Comment

Re: Gears of War 3
Arcade Mode and Mutators:
"It's a way that the players can compete against each other in campaign mode. It adds points and stat tracking features, encouraging a competitive and challenging replay of the campaign. Onscreen indicators clearly highlight fellow players with over-the-head carrots to help them navigate. Objectives and other highlighted objects are clearly marked at all times, sacrificing the normally lean presentation for quick directions and a clear sense of purpose."
"Mutators also become part of the game in arcade mode, allowing for dramatic and sometimes humorous gameplay in arcade mode. One of our big goals is to add replayability of the content. Mixing up the gameplay simply by changing the rules through mutators are a way to do that, whether you change gravity, the sizes of the heads, sound effects, or whatever else you want to. As you play through arcade mode, pop-ups appear on you screen showing you accomplishments that your friends have managed and daring you to beat them - a feature lifted from Epic's Shadow Complex."
Thrashball Arena:
"The decadent and crumbling thrash ball arena will surely be a favorite for gamers who've wondered about the sport that Cole used to play. Along its roughly symmetrical ends, several visual cues (like a crashed helicopter) help players keep track of their location. The scoreboard over the pitch can be brought down to change the center of the battlefield into a sparking metallic mess. The arena layout also doubles as a fine opportunity to see some of the newest elements of Unreal tech in actions; a new global illumination system creates dramatic visual light and shadow effects along the ground. As a tattered flag blows in the breeze, its shadow is perfectly mirrored upon a moving figure beneath. From within a smoky mass of rock and metal, particles of color and light glimmer."
Apparently, it's based off real world football.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Gears of War 3
Game Informer Cover Story Info:
- 4 player co-op is story integrated. You're not just playing as a faceless avatar. Players 3 and 4 take control of new Gears, Jace Stratton and Anya Stroud to start the game.
- Players can trade weapons and ammo during battle.
- The Lambent have the ability to mutate dynamically right in front of players.
- Lambent Drudges start out in bipedal form, but then after some damage has been dealt, they mutate with a towering neck, two writhing arms, and a trunk-like body.
- These mutations help deal with 4 player co-op. They force you to keep moving, since they're able to invalidate cover and get above you, by mutating their arms they're able to better deal with you attacking them as a group, since they can attack 3 of you at the same time.
- Trademark Lancer with chainsaw is joined by a new Pendulum-era Lancer that has a bayonet and shoots incredibly powerful rounds at close range.
- Long-range lovers will enjoy the redesigned Hammerburst, it's aim-mode immediately drops into a deep zoom to nail distant headshots.
- Double-barreled, sawed-off shotgun has a devastating single shot that can take out multiple enemies at close-range.
- Digger Launcher fires piranha creatures that dig through the ground at high speeds before rising up to immolate enemy forces.
- New one-shot recoilless rifle is a heavy-class destroyer that can take nearly any enemy down with a single pull of the trigger.
- New Incendiary grenades.
- Marcus early on gets a data-disc containing a message from his father, Adam Fenix. He claims there's a way to save the planet, but he needs Marcus's help.
- Epic wants to answer the question of Adam Fenix. What was that recording all about at the end of Gears 2? What's going on with Marcus's father who was presumed dead? Is he being held against his will? An how can we find him, and then leverage his ideas to nullify this effect and the save the planet.
- The Locust and their enigmatic queen remain, though setbacks have caused many of them to revert to even more savage and primal tendencies.
- Savage Grenadier are barbaric beasts wielding primitive weapons.
- Other cases the Locust have returned to pre-industrial heavy weaponry, like their use of the cruelly harnessed siege beasts. They use it against its will as a catapult of sorts.
- With the ramping up of enemies, you need more solutions, and in come the Silverbacks. They carry a single soldier, and can charge across the battlefield at a high rate of speed. There's two modes. First is essentially a death dealing machine that can fire on the run. The second mode adds a layer of strategy. The Silverback becomes stationary, it's guns still functional, but it's armor plating expands outward, creating a wall of cover for allies.
- There's dedicated levels of the campaign that focus on Cole and Baird. Their joined by two other new Gears. The timelines start to overlap Pulp Fiction-style, eventually emerging for the finale.
- Campaign Arcade Mode - It's a way that the players can compete against each other. It adds points and stat tracking features, encouraging a competitive and challenging replay of the campaign. Onscreen indicators clearly highlight fellow players with over-the-head carrots to help them navigate. Objectives and other highlighted objects are clearly marked at all times, sacrificing the normally lean presentation for quick directions and a clear sense of purpose.
- Mutators are only available to use in the Arcade Mode. They allow for dramatic and sometimes humorous gameplay. One of the big goals is to add replayability of the content. Mixing up the gameplay simply by changing the rules through mutators are a way to do that, whether you change gravity, the sizes of the heads, sound effects, or whatever else you want to change.
- As you play through Arcade Mode, pop-ups appear on you screen showing you accomplishments that your friends have managed and daring you to beat them.
- The distinction between Arcade and Cinematic is the intention of the player. Cinematic is for those that care about the presentation and story. Arcade is about how me and my friends want to go shoot ****. Two perspectives on the same content, and now players have a choice how they want to experience it.
- The higher difficulties remain largely untouched, but the lowest setting is even more simplistic, encouraging players who have no desire for anything more than an interactive narrative. Players can still select an individual difficulty level, and the new casual mode ensures that anyone can jump in with the group, hardcore gamer or not.
- Enemies can recognize changes to the environment and account for them in their pathfinding. So now with destructible cover the AI can recognize that it's gone.
- Mutiplayer map called Thrashball Arena - Along its roughly symmetrical ends, several visual cues help players keep track of their location. The scoreboard over the pitch can be brought down to change the center of the battlefield into a sparking metallic mess.
- Mutiplayer map called Overpass is set on Jacinto during it's final moments above water. Riffling off the dynamic map changes seen in Gears 2, the third installment includes the option to completely alter a map over the course of a match. First water begins to flood, then the entire map begins to tumble towards a yawning cavern into the underground Hollow. Buildings that were once at street level are a hundred feet above.

The more that I believe Adam Fenix was heavily involved in helping to create the locusts as part of experiments that they wanted to use as soldiers, but they ended up rebelling.Comment
