Can someone provide me any tips on how to truly use the shotgun at close range? I cant see to kill anyone in a close range shotgun duel and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm doing pretty good at long range but I'm really struggling with the shotgun.

this. also know that the multiplayer for Gears has a steep and long learning curve. You're not going to be able to pick it up overnight like you could with a Call of Duty game. You will receive many beatdowns before things start to click. Hell, I've been playing Gears for a while and I still get beat up.

I've been playing Gears since Emergence Day and rolling is NOT the way to go during a shotgun duel. You are defenseless while rolling, cant shoot back and your movement is predictable.

My advice would be to always strafe while in a duel and quick aim all of your shots. Basically, tap the LT to aim quickly and then press the RT to shoot immediately after. Another thing is that when in a one v one, people have a tendency to shoot every shot at the same pace as fast as they can. Try to get the rhythm for when your opponent will shoot and grab cover or slightly move to either side right as they are shooting. This will give you a better shot at avoiding their fire and give you a chance to get the kill.

If you are within melee range, instead of trying to shoot them, go for the melee and then shoot, aka the "two-piece". I personally never use this tactic as it was never that successful for me, but others use it effectively.

Really in the end, getting good with the shotty is all about "tricking the distance". Basically you want to try to move in killing range as you are shooting, out of killing range as return fire is coming. At least this is what works for me.

Learn to strafe after shooting with your shotgun. Seriously, it's the difference between life and death. I have two games of Gears 3 on my Youtube channel using the shotgun and lancer. Check them out and watch what I do when using my shotgun.

So having only one person I play games with online that has the beta right now, I would love to actually get some parties going. If anyone is in the same boat as me, typically stuck alone and getting swarmed by three or four enemies at once who are working together, send me a message or a FR on xbox live. dominick324. I am still new at this Gears multiplayer so I am pretty horrible right now. So if anyone else is also new to this maybe we can work together at it.

So having only one person I play games with online that has the beta right now, I would love to actually get some parties going. Btw, to spot fellas you zoom in on someone and click the right or left stick (cant remember what one it is). The enemy then glows red.

Add me to your GOW3 list as well. I've been playing the GOW franchise sense it came out; I'm not great by any means, but I work well within the confines of a team and that generally beats out more talented players. That's what I do love about GOW: if you get like-minded players - all of whom's goal is to simply win & not care for stats - then you can dominate. This is why guys who play more sports games (ie: guys on OS) are better to party up with in GOW because they understand the concept of "team work" better and generally don't mind knowing and filling their roles.

So seems to be always just one or two guys who completely dominate the game. One guy tonight in a game just owned it with the sawed off.
