Honestly the only one that seems shallow is Not Ping. Maybe I forget the reason why you meet up with her, but she popped up and split. Amanda's made sense. Dude drove her around AND gave her a photo session. She was way too much maintenance and basically just vacationing. That's not a long term probability, but at least she showed you the shrines.

Tiffany was a nice introduction to karaoke and some logical "favor" follow ups were a nice touch. The mechanic may be shallow, but the girls felt logical within the game world.

That's what I've been saying. The mechanics outside of the fighting are pretty shallow and weak.

Shallow maybe, but the same can be said of almost any open world game. As long as it doesn't detract from the game then I don't see it as a negative especially when other parts pick up the slack.

DDW, shouldn't have deleted that post. It was pretty spot on.

But honestly, I think the vast majority of us are in a different view on the game. Even now, I want to go back and restart the game over. I don't feel that there are any real flaws in the gameplay department. The backing up camera is a very minor complaint, and rarely ever reared it's head.

But, it is Price's review of the game, even if it doesn't echo our collective thoughts, nothing wrong with it. Overall, I don't think this game "fails" in anything other than drawing too much of my time and making me engaged to the point where I didn't want to stop.

No one said you weren't allowed to disagree.

An 8 is a good score though. It's a very good game.

Should have this from Gamefly tomorrow. Read this thread and played the demo and decided it was definitely worth checking out.

Yah... prob should have left it, but I felt like I was being a little too mean, which wasn't how I intended it to come across.

Not too often that I find myself worried about that

This is where I 100% disagree. The driving is fantastic, the running and "parkour" work great, and IMO, the shooting/gunplay is a hell of a lot of fun.

As my deleted post touched on, you and I both liked Spec Ops a lot, and IMO, this game does literally EVERYTHING better than that title did; graphics, gunplay, story, etc.

Obviously opinions are opinions, but this game does MULTIPLE things VERY well, when most games cant even get one thing right.

The driving was fun for sure.

The parkour is basically a QuickTime event. You have no control over anything, and it's impossible to screw it up.

The shooting is not nearly as good as spec ops, which had average shooting. The reticule is poor, and the cover mechanic is weak. You can't switch from cover to cover, can't go around edges, can't swat turn, nothing. When in cover, your only movement options are to back away or leap over.

Sleeping dogs looks better than spec ops, but the story is nowhere near as interesting. The characters are good but the plotting is boilerplate. It's a John Woo movie.

In terms of sound, spec ops had a wonderful ambient soundtrack and perfect usage of licensed music. Nolan north's voice acting is perfect, and everybody else is good. Sleeping dogs has a great licensed soundtrack, and the voice acting is good, but there's nothing in it that wows you.

I think that's basically sleeping dogs in a nutshell. It's solid all around, but other than the city, it doesn't knock your socks off. Spec Ops took massive risks and the ones that paid off are some of the most memorable moments of this gen. Its lows are lower but its highs are so much higher.

                            That's okay.

It's a very good game, just not a great one, in my opinion.

How can you compare Sleeping Dogs, an open-world game, to Spec Ops, a third person shooter?

Of course the latter's going to have better shooting... it's a freakin' shooter!

Well, to be fair, I brought up the comparison.
