I gotta admit, these new mods have breathed new life into this game for me. It is 100% more enjoyable for me...

Re: Civilization V
Has anyone come up with a mod to the AI that encourages it to expand to other continents? If I play the Terra map (my favorite, since it's like Earth but not quite the same, and because all Civs start in an "Old World"), they don't seem interested in settling the New World. They just try to take over the initial continent (and one usually succeeds)
Pangaea maps play great, though.Comment

Re: Civilization V
I have not noticed it but now that you mention it, it does seem to be a problem. My last game on Civ IV, Arabia had half a continent then moved to my side of the Hemisphere to colonize a Archipelago.Has anyone come up with a mod to the AI that encourages it to expand to other continents? Re: Civilization V
Maybe the AI knows what many countries learned the hard way: colonizing other continents doesn't generally end that well.
I play with the "continents" map type, and it seems to work well because (unlike previous games) the civs start out spread amongst the continents rather than all of them on the same one. Once I even had a continent to myself (and one City-State) in a huge map game.Impact de Montréal

Re: Civilization V
Has anyone else been disappointed with online so far? I play civ a lot with one of my buddies, and the interface seems like it's scaled back online for some reason. For instance, it turns off the attack animations, and — and this is the biggest issue — you can't save whenever you want to. In Civ IV, online played exactly like offline...Now Playing

Re: Civilization V
With these new mods, to get a city Productive, it takes about as long as it did in Civ IV. I really like the small Continents map, just about everyone gets their own continent.Maybe the AI knows what many countries learned the hard way: colonizing other continents doesn't generally end that well.

Re: Civilization V
I haven't been disappointed but I was prepared and actually a little impressed with what we got considering... Firaxis before release said that MP would get a huge overhaul in an update after release. They also released exactly ZERO info on MP before release so I expected it be rather poor.Has anyone else been disappointed with online so far? In options just set it so your game auto saves every 2 turns that way whenever you want to save and quit its only a turn away! This is what some friends and I have been doing and it works just fine.www.simgamingnetwork.com Come join our leagues!

I think I'm beginning to realize that such massive games are not good on my laptop. This thing is chugging every turn.Comment

Re: Civilization V
You might try the strategy view (one of the buttons at the lower right of the screen. It's a 2D top-down map and the turns move MUCh quicker (at least on my PC) when it's on. You could play the entire game in it if you wanted, but if you just switch before hitting the next turn button it would probably move a lot quicker.
Civ can get pretty CPU-intensive in the later turns of a game.Comment

Re: Civilization V
I actually played the last 20 turns with it, and they do move quicker. It jsut froze on me again (it happened last night too), this time I was expecting it- and saved a couple of turns before. I may have to use the steam cloud to transfer this save over to my desktop (after I download it there) to complete the game. You might try the strategy view (one of the buttons at the lower right of the screen. I guess I'll be starting a new (smaller) game for now, with the goal of winning a conquest victory, since wars are so much fun.Comment

Re: Civilization V
Ok tracer, for your first game I would play on chieftain, and for a map I would pick small continents. Though you may not get in a lot of wars, you will learn how to build your empire.
When you look to build a city, you will want to look to build near food and if at all possible, near hills or resources. My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment
